The paper examines the impact of a group of principles of integrity and harmonization on the architectural design of vertical farms. These objects are an efficient and sustainable approach to an agricultural production. Moreover, vertical farms can be located in urban environments which leads to a need of developing appropriate space-volumetric, compositional, planning, functional, and structural solutions for the harmonious and aesthetic integration of such buildings into the urban structure while preserving their functional efficiency. Abstract:
One of the ways to reduce the cost of space launches for the operational launch of constellations of satellites into the Earth's orbit is the creation of targeted launch vehicles based on light and ultralight class rockets. The solution to this problem lies, among other things, in the area of development and application of new structural materials. The presented work considers the possibility of using polymers on the one hand as a structural material for creating the hulls of launch vehicles, and on the other hand as solid fuel for rocket engines. Research is related to the development of a new type of ultralight launch vehicles: combustible or autophagic launch vehicles. A short historical excursion into the problem of creating polymer launch vehicles is given. The authors summarized the experience of their own research on the use of polymer materials for the creation of combustible rockets. The thermophysical and mechanical characteristics of various types of polymers were analyzed from the point of view of the possibility of their use as structural materials for the hulls of ultralight missile carriers. The results of theoretical and experimental studies of thermal destruction of polymer materials under aerodynamic heating conditions are presented. It is shown that polymer materials, in particular polyethylene, under certain conditions, can be used to make fuel tanks for solid-fuel rockets that use a new principle of burning the structure during flight. The development of such launch vehicles and the commercialization of scientific research in this area will allow domestic companies in the aerospace industry to occupy a niche in the market for launching small satellites.

Abstract:
AbstractIn recent years, the emerging 3D printing concrete technology has been proved to be an effective and intelligent strategy compared with conventional casting concrete construction. Due to the principle of additive manufacturing strategy, this concrete extrusion technique creates great opportunities for designing freeform geometries for surface decoration since this material has a promising performance of high compressive strength, low deformation, and excellent durability. However, the structure behavior is usually questioned, defined by the thickness and printing path. At the same time, the experiments for using 3D printing elements for structural and functional parts are still insufficient. Little investigation has been made into developing reinforcement strategies compatible with 3D printing concrete. In fact, conventional formwork and easy-to-install reinforcement support structures have various advantages in terms of labor costs but can hardly be reused. Thus, using 3D concrete printing as formwork for projects in different scales is an effective solution in the mass customized prefabrication era. Considering large-scale projects, the demand to provide concrete formwork with a proper reinforcement strategy for better toughness, flexibility, and strength is necessary. In this paper, we proposed different off-site reinforced 3D printing concrete strategies and evaluated them from time and material cost, deviation, and accessibility of fabrication.

Synthesizing principle solutions (PSs) in various disciplines together is a common practice in multi-disciplinary conceptual design (MDCD), which generates the combination of PSs to meet the desired functional requirement. Different from structure- and function-based synthesis methods, a hybrid PS synthesis (HPSS) method through integrating functional and structural knowledge is proposed in this paper, which not only achieves the automated synthesis of multi-disciplinary PSs, but also resolves the undesired physical conflicts during the synthesis process. It comprises of united representation

The purpose of conceptual design is to build the function structure and find the principle solution for fulfilling it. A formal functional representation is needed for decomposing the overall function to sub-functions with the computer-aid reasoning process. However, the existing functional representations lack of supporting the description of attributes and internal structures of input/output material flows. Material flow may be much more complicated than the other two kinds of flows (signal flow and energy flow) since its geometry and topology may be very complex, and which hinders the autom

The electronic structure calculation is carried out using the “density functional theory” (DFT) within the “SIESTA” code. We have explored the transport along both the armchair (AC) and zigzag (ZZ) directions. Interestingly, both elements turn semiconducting in the AC-configuration, and their band gap os

Abstract This paper surveys the development and application of the surface variational principle (SVP) governing the acoustic interaction between surface pressure and normal velocity. SVP is analogous to the method of assumed modes for vibration analysis, in that it represents the response in terms of a sequence of basis functions that are globally defined. The system equations governing the series coefficients are obtained by requiring that the value of the variational functional be stationary. In the wavenumber-based version of SVP, the pressure and velocity are represented by dual range Fou

Coeffi cients of variation of linear dimensions (11.9–20.0 %) and relative bone mass (22–35 %) were established. Moments of inertia of various bones are more variable (CV = 41.67–56.35 %

Up to World War II the Bank of Portugal (BoP) was far from possessing the features normally associated with a central bank. It was still a commercial bank, although one that had acquired some central bank functions. The World War II period was decisive to change this ambiguity. The change was mostly caused by an unusually large influx of international means of payment (gold and foreign exchange) as a consequence of Portuguese neutrality during the war, which allowed the BoP to transform its balance sheet structure: the BoP became the institution centralising commercial banks’ reserves. Any analysis of a “National Educational System” reveals a highly complex social production system that is neither a hierarchical organization, nor a market, nor simply a misaligned system of principals and agents. It is, instead, a complex array of social actors bound together through various social structures and processes on one hand, and important functional relationships on the other. In approaching the challenge of moving that system towards sustained productivity gains, national governments naturally fall prey to the assumption that, in the principal/agent framework they are the principa
