Abstract:
Quality-of-life and functional outcomes are important in the choice of treatment for men with localized prostate cancer. These issues were investigated in the present thesis. All living 400 men randomized to radical prostatectomy or watchful waiting from 1989 to 1999 in the Scandinavian Prostate Cancer Group Number 4 (SPCG-4) were included. An additional 281 men compromised an age-matched control group. Physical symptoms, symptom-induced stress, sense of well-being and self-assessed quality of life were evaluated by a study-specific questionnaire. Results showed that prostate cancer men, regar

INTRODUCTION Urinary incontinence and bladder voiding symptoms are extremely frequent in the general population, in both sexes, independently from race and age. The onset of voiding disorders is slow in time; therefore, subjects develop adaptation mechanisms. Patients may lose their reference to normality, considering as physiological what in reality is a pathological condition [Abrams, 2013]. For reasons deeply investigated in this doctoral thesis, it is difficult to collect definitive and reliable epidemiological data on lower urinary tract symptoms and on urinary incontinence in the genera

Abstract:
Background and purpose Malignant conditions of the pelvis and/or abdomen can cause ureteric obstruction and associated impaired renal function, which can be managed by performing percutaneous nephrostomy (PCN) tube insertion. Nephrostomy tubes are associated with prolonged hospital stay which affects quality of life. The main objective of this study was to assess the changes in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) over the first six months following percutaneous nephrostomy for malignant ureteric obstruction. We also explored the role of UTIs in the changes of eGFR following PCN.

Abstract:
This thesis focused on the acute management of patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) in an effort to provide information that may improve outcome. The aim was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of bivalirudin versus unfractionated heparin (UFH) in STEMI patients during primary PCI. Furthermore, to provide pharmacodynamic data of novel ways of ticagrelor administration compared to standard tivcagrelor. Additionally, to identify subgroups of patients, such as women who may derive greater benefit from specific antithrombotic strategies due to their risk/benefit profile

Abstract:
The monograph devoted to the study of urolithiasis consistently highlights the issues of etiology, classification, diagnosis and modern principles of treatment of urolithiasis. The problems of postoperative complications in surgery and urology are considered as a separate issue, data on original methods for predicting the development of hemorrhagic or inflammatory complications in the postoperative period with urolithiasis are presented. Special attention is paid to the issues of nonspecific immune protection, immune status indicators and hemostasis system in the development of complications i

Abstract:
Doppler optical coherence tomography (DOCT) is an emerging imaging modality demonstrated in 1991 for the first time and is a functional extension of optical coherence tomography (OCT) to including flow measurement. DOCT allows not only high-resolution, non-invasive, cross-sectional imaging but also simultaneous real-time visualization of sample structure and flow. DOCT is often compared to clinical Doppler ultrasound. However, the spatial resolution of clinical Doppler ultrasound is limited to approximately 100 μm due to the relatively long wavelength of acoustic waves. DOCT takes advantage of

Abstract:
Spinal cord injury (SCI) is accompanied by urologic complications, characterized by two phases (early areflexic phase and late hyperreflexic phase), where the routine function of the urinary bladder of storing urine and voiding becomes compromised. In addition to functional deficiencies, these pathologies are often accompanied by changes in bladder wall tissue morphology and mechanical properties. Our experimental studies have revealed that the bladder wall can undergo rapid remodeling post-SCI (figs.1,2) and exhibits complex biomechanical responses (fig.2B) [1,2,3,4]. These remodeling events
