Abstract:
An Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy funded diagnostic system has been deployed to the Princeton field-reversed configuration 2 (PFRC-2) device, located at Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory. The Portable Diagnostic Package (PDP), designed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, allows for the measurement of Thomson Scattering (TS) for electron density and temperature and Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES) for ion temperature, impurity density, and ion velocity. A tunable spectrometer on the PDP with three gratings provides the flexibility to measure low (1 eV) and high (1000 eV) electron t

The main bottleneck in the development of the next generation of Li-ion batteries with higher energy densities, as demanded for long-range electrical mobility, is the lack of understanding and control of the reactions at the electrode-electrolyte interfaces. Reactions at the cathode side cause rapid capacity loss during cycling and represent a major issue for batteries with high-voltage cathodes, which are crucial in reaching the required energy densities. Promising candidates for use in next generation of batteries are Ni-rich Li(Ni1-x-yMnxCoy)O2 (NMC) cathodes, which show high capacity, high

It has been shown that the equine embryo is able to modulate the proteome of the oviduct, increasing the presence of certain proteins involved in the embryo-maternal communication (Smits et al. 2016 Reprod. Fertil. Dev. doi: 10.1071/RD15481). In cattle, the presence of a single embryo did not affect the transcriptome of the oviduct, whereas multiple embryos induced changes (Maillo et al. 2015 Biol. Reprod. 92, 144). The aim of the present study was to examine the effect of the presence of an embryo on the oviduct fluid proteome. Cross-bred beef heifers were synchronized, and those in standing

This study investigated the effect of Ganjang (Fermented soy sauce) on renin‐angiotensin‐aldosterone system(RAAS) in Sprague‐Dawley rats. Animals were divided into 5 groups; Control(CT), NaCl(NC), Soy bean(SB), Meju(MJ), Ganjang(GJ). The order of Systolic blood pressure(SBP) among the groups were NC>>MJ>CT>GJ>SB. Na+ concentration in the groups were as follows CT<GJ<NC=SB<MJ in urine. In feces, Na+ was not significantly different. Ion excretion indirectly show activation of RAAS which was higher in CT compared to NC, SB, MJ and GJ. Plasma Renin level were as follows CT=

Abstract ENN He Long-2 (EHL-2) is the next-generation large Mega-Ampere (MA) spherical torus (ST) proposed and funded by ENN company. The design parameters are: Ti0 > 30 keV, ne0~1×1020 m-3, Ip ~ 3 MA, Bt ~ 3 T. How to achieve several MA current flat-top with limited voltage-second (Vs) of center solenoid (CS) coils is one of the most challenges issue of EHL-2. In order to minimize the consumption of Vs, fully non-inductive start-up by ECRH will be applied in EHL-2. The ramp-up phase will be accomplished with the synergetic mode between CS and non-inductive methods. The strategy of non-indu

Abstract:
The fuel of the first thermonuclear reactors, such as ITER or DEMO, will be a mixture of hydrogen isotopes, i.e. deuterium and tritium. As a result of the fusion of these isotopes, an alpha particle with energy of 3.5 MeV and a neutron with energy of 14.1 MeV is created. Neutrons escape from the plasma and pass through the magnetic field without interference and are absorbed in the blanket, and their energy is converted into heat. Measuring their total emission informs us about the reaction rate of the fusion, i.e. the power produced in the reactor. Measuring the energy spectrum of neutrons gi
