<strong><em>Abstract</em></strong><strong><em>&mdash;</em></strong> <em>Variety yield and adaptation studies are of great importance in increasing cotton production and cultivation. This work was carry out to determine yield(seed cotton and fiber) and yield parameters (plant height, sympodial branches, boll number, seed cotton weight, 100 seed weight and ginning outturn) of 46 cotton genotypes, two of which belong to barbadense and forty-four of hirsutum species, under east Mediterranean ecological conditions of Kahramanmaras &ndash; Turkey in 2013 and 2014. According to the analysis of variance yield and yield parameters showed significant differences between genotypes. Year and genotype-year interactions were not significant for all characteristics studied. Based on two-year average results, cotton cultivars BA-119, ST-468 and Furkan gave higher seed cotton and fiber yield per hectare than the others. Minimum seed cotton and fiber yield was observed in Maydos. Cotton varieties BA-119, ST-468 and Furkan can be recommended to cotton producers for production regions due to their high seed cotton and fiber yield.</em>

Full text
Abstract:
We are using trichome (hair) morphogenesis as a model to study how plant cell shape is controlled. During a screen for new mutations that affect trichome branch initiation in Arabidopsis, we identified seven new mutants that show a reduction in trichome branch number from three branches to two. These mutations were named furca, after the Latin word for two-pronged fork. These seven recessive mutations were placed into four complementation groups that define four new genes: FURCA1, FURCA2, FURCA3 and FURCA4. The trichome branch number phenotype indicates that the FURCA genes encode positive regulators of trichome branch initiation. Analysis of double mutants suggests that primary and secondary branch initiation events are not genetically distinct, but rely on the levels of partially redundant groups of regulators of trichome branch initiation. Based on the analysis of both epistatic and additive genetic interactions between the FURCA genes and other genes that control trichome branch number, we propose a model that explains how these genes interact to control trichome branch initiation. This model successfully predicts the phenotypes of all the single and double mutants examined and suggests points of control of the trichome branch pathway.

Abstract:
In order to see the transformer insulation status, the temperature profile, the degree of polymerization (DP), the furan compound content, the carbon dioxide, and carbon monoxide concentration are monitored. By evaluating the degree of polymerization (DP) of the cellulose paper insulation and furans in the determination of the insulating oil, it can estimate the lifetime of the transformer. Analysis of cellulose insulation paper to see the degree of polymerization (DP) can be performed safely only when the transformer is interrupted. However, being a non-invasive test, determination of furane content in an oil-insulating oil is often used as an alternative method for measuring the DP average of insulation paper. In order to analyze the technical condition of a transformer, furan content in oil should be used and interpreted as a primary chemical indicator in conjunction with the results of carbon oxide from the dissolved gas analysis, the acidity and moisture results from the chemical tests, the methanol content from the chromatographic tests and other monitoring techniques.

Abstract:
Background: Benzo[b]furan derivatives are oxygen-containing heterocyclic compounds consisting of fused benzene and furan rings and are present in a large number of natural and non-natural compounds. This class of compounds has a wide spectrum of biological activities, such as antiarrhythmic, anticancer, inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial, and antiviral. Furthermore, benzo[b]furan derivatives have also been applied in various areas, such as organic electroluminescence device materials and organic dyes, photosensitizing material, organic synthesis as building blocks or intermediates. : Because of a broad range of applicability, the synthesis of benzo[b]furan derivative has drawn great attention of chemists and many studies on the synthesis of this class of compounds have been reported recently. This review will give an overview of benzo[b]furan preparation based on studies dating back to the year 2012. Objective: In this review, recent development in the synthesis of benzo[b]furans are discussed. There has been increasingly new methodologies for the construction of benzo[b]furans skeleton to improve efficiency or develop environmentally friendly procedures. In some studies, reaction mechanisms were also outlined. Conclusion: Many methods for the synthesis of benzo[b]furans have been reported recently. Most of them involve cyclization or cycloisomerization processes. Unquestionably, more imaginative strategies for the construction of benzo[b]furan skeleton will be established in the near future. Application of known methods to natural products or drug synthesis, on industrial scale for the synthesis of economically or medicinally important benzo[ b]furans will probably be paid attention to.

Abstract. Volatile organic compounds like furan and its derivatives are important for atmospheric properties and reactions. In this paper the known abiotic formation of furan from catechol under Fenton-like conditions with Fe3+ sulphate was revised by the use of a bispidine Fe2+ complex as a~model compound for iron with well-known characteristics. While total yields were comparable to those with the Fe3+ salt, the turnover numbers of the active iron species increased. Additionally, the role of iron and pH will be discussed during furan formation from model compounds and in natural sediment and water samples collected from the Dead Sea and several salt lakes in Western Australia. Various alkylated furans and even traces of halogenated furans (3-chlorofuran and 3-bromofuran) were found in these samples. Furthermore, the emission of furans is compared to the abundance of several possible precursors such as isoprene and aromatic hydrocarbons as well as to the related thiophenes. It is assumed that the emissions of volatile organic compounds such as furans contribute to the formation of ultra fine particles in the vicinity of salt lakes and are therefore important for the local climate.

These molecules are frequently used in antiviral, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antidepressant, anti-anxiolytic, anti-parkinsonian, anti-glaucoma, muscle relaxant, antihypertensive, diuretic, anti-ulcer, anti-ageing, and anticancer medications. The biological activity of furans can alter noticeably due to a slight modification in the pattern of substitution. In the realm of medicinal chemistry, furan derivatives have taken on a special position. An important synthetic technique in the search for new drugs is the inclusion of the furan nucleus. The great therapeutic efficacy of furan-related medicines has promoted the medicinal chemists to create large number of novel chemotherapeutic agents. The field of medicinal chemistry encompasses a diverse array of opportunities due to the different ways that furans derivatives can be synthesized as well as their various structural reactions. This article aims to review previous work on the medicinal and biological activities during past years.

Abstract:
The occurrence of furan in home cooked food was studied. Cooking was found to reduce the level of furan in ready-to-eat foods, however on average around 50% of furan remain in the foods. The analysis of furan occurrence revealed that it is most commonly formed in foods with high levels of carbohydrates. Interestingly, breakfast cereals, dry bread products, and dried fruit products including raisins, plums and bananas contained furan at levels up to 387 &amp;micro;g/kg. Furan was also found in the dry ingredients of cookies and bread, and in snacks such as crisps and popcorn. The 2-alkylfurans, 2-methylfuran, 2,5-dimethylfuran, 2-ethylfuran, and 2-pentylfuran were present at levels in the same range as furan (885 &amp;micro;g/kg) and the level of 2-methylfuran (1328 &amp;micro;g/kg) exceeded this level in coffee. &amp;nbsp;

Abstract:
<em>While the need for electrical energy has increased over time, a renewable energy source alone cannot meet this increase yet. In the future, alternative ways of decreasing loyalty to fossil fuels are sought. Hybrid energy is an important step in this regard. Hybrid energy is a good alternative to fossil fuels, due to the high production capacity compared to solar or wind energy alone. In Turkey, investment of solar and wind energy increasing day by day. While solar and wind power getting crucial for Turkey it is important to know how much potential of hybrid energy exists in the country with a map. Purpose of this study is by combining solar and wind potential of Turkey, creating the hybrid energy potential map. In addition, with considering the economic conditions the establishment of a hybrid power plant scenario created. This scenario is aimed to determine whether the hybrid power plant feasible or not. In this regard, solar and wind potential in 81 provinces were determined. By combining wind and solar potential data at the same points, hybrid energy potentials were determined. Then, if a 1MW power plant was established for each province based on the determined hybrid potential data, the cost analysis of the value of the investment was made based on the appropriate economic data. According to the results of the study especially in Hatay in Turkey were found to be quite high wind potential and solar potential at an adequate level. Also, provinces such as &Ccedil;anakkale and Karaman follow Hatay as high yielding regions. After the studies, Turkey has been found to be a suitable place for hybrid energy. The hybrid power plant, which uses clean and renewable energy sources can reduce fossil fuel utilization rate. So hybrid energy can be an alternative way to save both Turkey and the World.</em>

Abstract:
Abstract. Volatile organic compounds like furan and its derivatives are important for atmospheric properties and reactions. In this work the known abiotic formation of furan from catechol under Fenton-like conditions with Fe3+ sulfate was revised by the use of a bispidine Fe2+ complex as a model compound for iron with well-known characteristics. While total yields were comparable to those with the Fe3+ salt, the bispidine Fe2+ complex is a better catalyst as the turnover numbers of the active iron species were higher. Additionally, the role of iron and pH is discussed in relation to furan formation from model compounds and in natural sediment and water samples collected from the Dead Sea and several salt lakes in Western Australia. Various alkylated furans and even traces of halogenated furans (3-chlorofuran and 3-bromofuran) were found in some Australian samples. 3-chlorofuran was found in three sediments and four water samples, whereas 3-bromofuran was detected in three water samples. Further, the emission of furans is compared to the abundance of several possible precursors such as isoprene and aromatic hydrocarbons as well as to the related thiophenes. It is deduced that the emissions of volatile organic compounds such as furans contribute to the formation of ultra-fine particles in the vicinity of salt lakes and are important for the local climate.

Abstract:
Natural products (NPs) are fantastic sources of inspiration for novel pharmaceuticals, oftentimes showing unique bioactivity against interesting targets. Specifically, NPs containing furan moieties show activity against a variety of diseases including fungal infections, and cancers. However, it is challenging to discover and isolate these small molecules from cell supernatant. The work described herein showcases the development of a molecular probe that can covalently modify furan moieties via a [4 + 2] Diels–Alder cycloaddition, making them easily identifiable on liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC–MS). The molecular probe, which undergoes this reaction with a variety of furans, was designed with both a UV-tag and a mass tag to enable easy identification. The probe has been tested with a variety of purified furans, including natural products, methylenomycin furan (MMF) hormones, and MMF derivatives. Moreover, the molecular probe has been tested in crude supernatants of various Streptomyces strains and enables identification of MMFs.

Abstract:
Furanic biofuels have received increasing research interest over recent years, due to their potential in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating the production of harmful pollutants. Nevertheless, the heterocyclic structure in furans make them readily to produce soot, which requires an in-depth understanding. In this study, the sooting characteristic of several typical furanic biofuels, i.e., furan, 2-methylfuran (MF), and 2,5-dimethylfuran (DMF), were investigated in laminar counterflow flames. Combined laser-based soot measurements with numerical analysis were performed. Special focus was put on understanding how the fuel structure of furans could affect soot formation. The results show that furan has the lowest soot volume fraction, followed by DMF, while MF has the largest value. Kinetic analyses revealed that the decomposition of MF produces high amounts of C3 species, which are efficient benzene precursors. This may be the reason for the enhanced formation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and soot in MF flames, as compared to DMF and furan flames. The major objectives of this work are to: (1) understand the sooting behavior of furanic fuels in counterflow flames, (2) elucidate the fuel structure effects of furans on soot formation, and (3) provide database of quantitative soot concentration for model validation and refinements.

Abstract:
Many regions where have the earthquake risk around the world, many buildings in developing countries are ineffective in front of earthquake forces. Recent years, the fabrics which are strengthening with carbon fiber reinforced polymer CFRP have become a very common material to strengthen the reinforced concrete buildings. In our country, mostly column jacketing and partition systems are used. They are also followed with steel jacketing and trussed steel joist systems. Reinforcement with composites named FRP fiber reinforced polymer are getting common slowly by slowly in our country. Since fibers are high tensile steel, they increase the strength of joist and covering deflection. If it is used in the direction of tensile, it also saves the strength for shearing. In this study,1 mm CFRP hardware is applied to the each covering of a 16 floor reinforced concrete building which is made with tunnel formwork system. In this analysis done with SAP2000 program, increase in the frequency of a reinforced concrete building is observed structure which has less in cycle is appeared. Abstract:
Abstract. Furans are emitted to the atmosphere during biomass burning from the pyrolysis of cellulose. They are one of the major contributing volatile organic compound (VOC) classes to OH and NO3 reactivity in biomass burning plumes. The major removal process of furans from the atmosphere at night is reaction with the nitrate radical, NO3. Here, we report a series of relative rate experiments in the 7300 L indoor simulation chamber at Institut de Combustion Aérothermique Réactivité et Environnement, Centre national de la recherche scientifique (ICARE-CNRS), Orléans, using a number of different reference compounds to determine NO3 reaction rate coefficients for four furans, two furanones, and pyrrole. In the case of the two furanones, this is the first time that NO3 rate coefficients have been reported. The recommended values (cm3 molec.−1 s−1) are as follows: furan, (1.49 ± 0.23) × 10−12; 2-methylfuran, (2.26 ± 0.52) × 10−11; 2,5-dimethylfuran, (1.02 ± 0.31) × 10−10; furfural (furan-2-aldehyde), (9.07 ± 2.3) × 10−14; α-angelicalactone (5-methyl-2(3H)-furanone), (3.01 ± 0.45) × 10−12; γ-crotonolactone (2(5H)-furanone), &lt;1.4 × 10−16; and pyrrole, (6.94 ± 1.9) × 10−11. The furfural + NO3 reaction rate coefficient is found to be an order of magnitude smaller than previously reported. These experiments show that for furan, alkyl-substituted furans, α-angelicalactone, and pyrrole, reaction with NO3 will be the dominant removal process at night and may also contribute during the day. For γ-crotonolactone, reaction with NO3 is not an important atmospheric sink.

Abstract:
N-Methylmaleimide-fused cyclobutadiene (15) and its 1,2-dimethyl derivative (41) have been generated by zinc/titanium tetrachloride treatment of the vicinal dibromide (39) and (24) respectively. Prior epoxidations of (24) and (39) produce mixtures of dibromo epoxides which yield the related N-methylmaleimide-fused Dewar furans (16) and (17) upon similar debromination (Zn/TiCl4). None of these reactive intermediates is sufficiently stable for direct observation, but each was trapped in adduct form by Diels-Alder reaction with furan. Attempts to form fused Dewar furan (17) by flash vacuum pyrolysis of the furan adduct (34) led to the production of the isomeric furo [3,4-c] pyrrole (43), the structure of which was confirmed by separate synthesis. Stereochemical assignments have been made to most adducts, and AM1 calculations have been used to predict the stereoselectivities and facial selectivities in these cycloaddition reactions. Reaction of these Dewar furans with cyclopentadienones produced propellanes which were decarbonylated to their respective cyclohexadienes and used as photosubstrates for the generation of oxiren or dimethyloxiren . Attempts to trap oxiren, generated by photolysis of propellane (12), with isobenzofuran were unsuccessful.
