Full textDuring the last century, furniture design has developed to become more financially accessible. Most furniture during the past decades is designed to facilitate the storage and transport of the product to minimise costs for the company. The company can let the customer assemble the furniture themselves at home to reduce the price even more. For customers' to be satisfied, the assembly of the furniture needs to go quickly and easily. The objective of this thesis is to improve today's assembling process of frame-based furniture with a focus on series of FAMILY A at IKEA. To gather information about what problems a customer may encounter today when assembling the furniture different methods are used such as consulting experts and internal benchmarking. A requirement and characteristics matrix is made as a guideline for what the new concepts should fulfil. To get ideas on new concepts that can improve the design, methods such as external benchmarking, patent search and brainstorming are used. The result is 19 different concepts that will improve several different problems. By consulting experts from IKEA in a focus group, one of the concepts named the Indented frame is chosen for further development. A 3-dimensional model is made to visualise the new concept and the Indented frame is adapted to existing components for wall hanging for the previous model of FAMILY A. Based on the 3-dimensional model, drawings are produced for the first prototypes. The prototypes assembly time are measured and a load test is carried out to measure the durability for the new concept. The result is that the new design has a decreased assembly time and the load test shows that there is no significant difference in durability. After the tests, the new concept is evaluated compared to the old design in view of form, function, quality, sustainability and low price. The conclusion is that the new concept would improve the furniture and the customers' experience when assembling.

Full textClub furniture design project consists of a chair, a table and a pouffe. This theme was chosen for the following reasons: the choise of this type of furniture is relatively small, such furniture is expensive and the topic is close to me. The shape and the colour are inspired by nature – the coconut. The main criteria I followed in my diploma work were: functionality, aesthetic appearance, high quality and low price. The created furniture is practical because of the parts that can be replaced. These parts can be easily replaced when smeard or mechanically broken and that is really important because it does not require additional expenses (transportation, furniture reclothing, labour price). Due to these removable parts, the designed furniture can be easily adapted to any interior – the colour and the material of the parts can be changed (leather, cloth, ect.). The attached part in the back of the armchair is my solution, variuos parts of other form can be made and attached. Other notes that are wanted to be populatized can be used instead of „COCONUT“. The Bachelor work consists of five flatbeds, the note folder, the folder of drawings, brochure and the product – an armchair.

Följande mission statement har ställts upp: “Increase people’s well-being and ability to perform by designing a better soundscape for the home office environment”. I ideation-fasen genomfördes total sex större workshops.

Since the spring and autumn period, Chinese style furniture has developed various types with different functions. Until Ming and Qing Dynasty, its development has reached the peak. No matter the proportion, decoration, or reckon between functions and appearances, each and every can represent the features of Chinese cultures and the sophistication of technique. However, rarely can you see a track of Chinese style furniture in modern furniture. Conversely, Western classical furniture didn’t fade away under the evolution of history; instead, it kept modifying its functions and types to meet the contemporary needs. And because of keeping up with times, western furniture gradually becomes the trend in the world furniture. Yet, under thousand-of-year evolution, Chinese style furniture is definitely qualified to take a place in modern life. Therefore, the purpose of the essay is to discover functions and features of Chinese style furniture. By combining with the design method of modern furniture, we can redesign and improve the Chinese style furniture to extend its spirits, making more people understand its fascination.

The living standard in Taiwan has increased gradually. The issue of fewer children in a family has made the parents emphasize more on the children’s health issue of the surrounding environment. Solid wood creation and environmentally friendly coating can improve both health and environmental problems. We create a series of growing furniture to solve short usage time in children’s products. The first work is a growing desk. The unique adjustment (using block concept) increases the fun in adjusting the height so as to pull closer parent-children relationship. Also, we reduce the exposure of the bolts and hardware by exquisite craft and demanding in details. The top of the legs uses wooden bolts as final parts to elevate integrate texture and aesthetic feeling. Work number two is a side table. The module design comes with two sizes and four units. This increases the flexibility with the fit and match in corresponded to different users or different space. Work number three is a duplex bed and single bed. Two equal-size single beds can be converted into a duplex children bedding with the concept of twist, turn, and block. Work number four is a growing closet. The height of the rail and the board can be adjusted according to the changing height of a growing child. Parents can also hang and fix up the closing with children to bond more intimate relationship. The kids can also cultivate good habits. The spacious drawer underneath added more sort out space becoming mom’s good helper. The final works are examined by small production and integrate final opinions for revise and improvement.

My design aims to transform furniture into image of magical treasure, to create the scenario of fairy tale. In the process of using the furniture, the emotional element is added so that users can interact with the furniture storyful and to make life interesting. The development trend of furniture design is closely correlated with human life. In the early times, furniture is viewed as tools to fulfill its function. In modern life, modern people pay close attention to the contented mind. Furniture should satisfy the need of the user. There is a new trend in current furniture design, and to satisfy the emotional need. Through the context of the fairy tale, I add the element of story in the product design so that the users would have new experience and new cognitive toward the product. Users would have emotional brand extension. Fairy tale is global knowledge and global common sense across all ages. I take this impression of well known using at design can add emotional interaction in the course of use, as a result furniture is no more just a tool it become a family member. So I try to bring those magic treasure and power that only occur at fairy tales in to the design. Trying to increase variety in daily life and make it more enjoyable, and redefine the role that furniture play in houses through this way. Design by the following two aspects and develop two furnitures that coordinate magical treasure of fairytales. 1. Inspired by the fantastic views in Alice Wonderland, created the bewildering and interesting furniture. 2. I use Fairy tale that base around curses and metamorphosis to develop correlative furniture. Nowadays, demographics has shown the phenomenon of more single people, declining birthrate and aging population, so people increase their demand for keeping pets. People get soul solace with pets’ company in a bid to satisfy their lonely lives. Dogs are the pets accounting for the highest percentage nowadays. Pet dogs are like our family and friends, therefore, a new lifestyle of pet dog breeding has been gradually formed. Dogs started entering the family space and assimilate into peoples’ living environment, so we also start to face squarely the living needs of pet dogs. In this study, through the literature review to know the pet dogs’ habits and mentalities, analyze current pet furniture by case study, and observe pet dogs’ living behavior reality. Then sum up to three different faces of behavior mode: Human and dogs’ common behavior, dogs’ self-behavior, new behavior by human’s effects, and proceed three design concept: human furniture combine dogs’ behavior, refine the current dogs’ furniture, furniture for dogs’ new behavior. “Lair Chair”: According to the action that dogs like being close to people as the concept, design a chair let people and dog could sit together. “Food Satellite”: This design is to improve the current pet dining table, conform to every different physiques of the dog. “Toy Hunt Cabinet”: The concept is to satisfy the act of dogs like to search the toy itself, but also provide people storing function. Furniture design according to pet dogs’ behavior is to satisfy pet dogs’ behavioral requirements, let the pet dog being more comfortable and pleasure in our lives. All substances can be personified within the world of animation so that we can identify the boundary between reality and virtual world. From the experience of creating products the author find that design is started from finding out problems and the problems are often from the inconvenience of users’ operation in the real world. In the past years, with this real world thinking the author used to design products on considering people’s requirements of using products, but ignored another possibility of design of the virtual world. Thus, in this graduate design project for Master degree, the author tried to dim the line between reality and virtual life by creating a series of innovative furniture designs which can move autonomously. In this design project, in order to make a part of the furniture moved freely, the author limited the movements of other segments on the furniture. The purpose of designing the furniture is freeing the operation of one part and fitting with the other portions. Combining the image of freedom and birds, the author created three designs: Partial Freedom-Yama, Partial Freedom-Cable and Partial Freedom-Tip. Finally, this project discovered the relationship between freedom and product design through the process of manufacturing the design works and also clarified if the design really freed the furniture itself.
