Abstract:
Abstract China is the world's largest furniture producer and exporter, but its furniture industry has always been at the bottom of the global value chain. Wooden furniture is the most important component of China's furniture industry. Its capacity and scale have been expanding; however, the industry's income and profit growth rate have declined. China's wooden furniture industry is in a period of transition, and industry regulators, participants, and even investors need to understand the future development trends of the industry. This study collected time series data for annual sales as well as the value of output, exports, and imports of the wooden furniture industry in China and used the autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) model to predict future market supply and demand. The study found that each figure will continue to grow over the next 5 years. However, the industry as a whole will face the challenge of oversupply. In addition, the domestic market share on behalf of industrial competitiveness will decline year by year. Through a comprehensive and systematic analysis of the changing trend of China's wooden furniture production and its domestic and foreign markets, this study is the first to predict the supply and demand of research, filling the gap in the research field of wooden furniture, and its research ideas have some innovation. It can provide a reference for industry regulators, enterprise decision makers, and domestic and foreign investors.

Cirebon area has long been known as an area that has great potential in the field of furniture and handicraft industry with raw materials of rattan. This region really does not have trees but because of the large rattan hereditary craftsmen at work there, and many there menyebabkan Cirebon rattan industry as a major regional craftsmen and the largest cane producer in Indonesia. But that condition did not last long because it feared since the Minister of Trade Decree No.12 of 2005, contains the opening tap on raw rattan exports, leading, manufacturers prefer to export the raw materials of rattan. Prices of raw materials for furniture and rattan craft also be high because the prices charged for local producers to use the benchmark export price. This ministerial decree on the one side benefit exporters but the industry shut down one side.

Abstract:
Growth rates of production of furniture in our country increase every year. And as the statistics, generally due to production of furniture from slabby glued materials, such as a chipboard, fiber board of average density, plywood shows. Apply to an upclassing of a surface of boards of slabby materials most often PVC films, the decorative paper and layered plastic and much less often the planed interline interval and an interline interval began to use a fayn-line. It is connected by that at a veneering a planed interline interval one of defects of a veneering – infiltration of glue on a front surface of a board very often comes to light. Ways of elimination of such defects aren´t present and therefore the spent materials simply are utilized and hit the pocket the producer. To avoid these risks the producer simply refuses use of similar materials. Our research was reduced increasing viscosity of glue and by that to exclude possibility of its infiltration on a front surface. For this purpose we suggest to enter into working solution gluing a filler – grinding dust. Use of grinding dust in the form of a filler at a veneering of boards allows to solve at once some problems: to use at a veneering of boards low-toxic urea-formaldehyde resin (today in production of products from wood generally urea-formaldehyde resin with a carbamide ratio to formaldehyde 1:1.5 are used), to increase durability of pasting of a basis and facing materials, to reduce marriage percent due to infiltration of glue on a front surface. Results of researches showed that it is possible to use low-toxic urea-formaldehyde resin where the filler in the form of grinding dust will be added to a compounding of glues at a veneering of boards. Optimum values of quantity of a filler from the square of infiltration of glue at a front surface and durabilities of gluing of facing layers to a basis were established.

Abstract:
Turkey has been manufacturing chemicals for a long time, being a producer of many basic and intermediate chemicals, petrochemicals and plastics. Among ca. 6000 companies manufacturing various
chemicals, 95 are large scale, 208 are medium scale, and the rest are all small size companies. The southern coast of the Marmara Sea is the home of Turkey’s densest population and industrial centers. Most
companies in chemical industries, especially private sector companies, are situated in the Marmara Region which, therefore, also generates large amounts of solid and liquid wastes from industrial areas, along with municipal solid waste and sewage as well as air pollution from gas emissions. Large scale industrial companies place a great deal of importance on international standards in production and comply with
environmental legislation and regulations. Although Turkey has made great progress over the last fifteen years in creating mechanisms to address its environmental problems, air and water pollution abatement problems still exist due to small scale enterprises generally using old technologies in sub-sectors including highly polluting activities such as textiles/clothing/leather, metal products/machinery/equipment, food/beverages/tobacco, forest products/furniture.

With more and more universities expanding and redesigning their landscape spaces, therefore their outdoor furnitures shape, dimension, quality and usage are also changing and redesigning. One of the significant changes in the design process is the taking of users needs/concerns into account. This change is influenced by a community-based design concept found in public spaces design. In this paper, we propose a Design for Assembly Study (DFA) which is focus on examining the past practice of outdoor wooden Materual furniture design in campus spaces by using Quality Function Deployment (QFD) to fill in this missing link. The employment of different matrices to capture the relationship between the voice of customer (VOC) and subsequent design and quality characteristics compose an evaluation framework suitable to fill the gap in the assembly procedure of outdoor wooden frame furniture. The study also produces several insights applies on outdoor wooden furniture design in campus space. Keywords: Wooden Material, Outdoor furniture, Outdoor space, Design Evaluation Procedure

Abstract:
The article deals with phraseological units (hereinafter - PU) of the English language containing somatisms, names of food, clothes and furniture, transmitting information about social relations. It is noted that PU are the result of secondary interpretation of knowledge, which leads to the cognitive models of their semantics formation being considered. The main research method is cognitive modeling. The authors reveal that in the course of secondary understanding of information about social relations, metaphorical, metonymic and metaphtonymic cognitive models can be involved. The research shows that when forming the semantics of PU transmitting information about social relations, the metaphorical model SOCIAL - PHYSICAL, MENTAL - PHYSICAL, as well as the models HUMAN BEING - ANIMAL (insect), HUMAN BEING (head) - CONTAINER can be used in the process of secondary interpretation. Metaphorical projection can be based on the following main characteristics: feature and action. The metonymic models involved are PART1 (product) - PART2 (producer), PART (specific manifestation) - WHOLE (phenomenon), PART1 (workplace) - PART2 (position associated with the workplace), PART1 (body part) - PART2 (external manifestation of an emotion), PART2 (cause) - PART1 (effect). The interaction of the EMOTIONAL - PHYSICAL metaphorical model and the PART1 (organ) - PART2 (functional significance) metonymic model was revealed in the metaphtonymic understanding of information about social relations.

Abstract:
The aims of this study are to design and to find out the performance of a throatless fixed bed downdraft gasifier. This gasifier was used to convert sengon wood block from furniture waste into gas fuel called producer gas that is beneficial for green energy production to substitute the fossil fuel. The gasifier was designed to have a thermal power of 30 kWth with double wall/tube and air as the gasifying medium. Sengon wood block with a size of about 5-8 m3 and moisture content of 10 % was used as the feedstock. The gasifier was tested at various equivalence ratio ranging from 0.18 to 0.28. In this work, the performance of the gasifier was evaluated by observing the temperature profile, flame condition, fuel consumption rate, specific gasification rate, and the amount of solid residue. The results showed that the designed gasifier had a diameter of 22 cm for the inner tube and 32 cm for the outer tube with a gasifier height of 100 cm. It was found that the equivalence ratio highly influenced the gasifier performance. Fuel consumption rate and specific gasification rate increased with the increase of equivalence ratio. In the meantime, the amount of solid residue appeared to be reduced because of high gasification rate. Under the condition investigated, the best gasifier performance was obtained at an equivalence ratio of 0.28 indicated by the stability of the flame during gasification process that is in accordance to the gasifier design parameters.

Abstract:
The choice of furniture does not only affect the comfort of one’s life or work space. Materials utilized in furniture production may contribute to the quality of chemical microclimate in rooms and have an influence on the users’ health. Plenty of substances used in the furniture industry have negative effects on human health. These effects are usually of low intensity. However, they occur over a long period of time and as a result they may even lead directly to permanent health problems. Consumer lifestyle boosts frequent changes in interior decoration. The changes include mainly replacing furniture and household appliances. The furniture industry offers a wide range of products to satisfy the growing needs of buyers. Mass production results in a significant increase in the exploitation of natural resources and (often) leads to degradation of the natural environment. The downsides of mass furniture production are usually considered only in terms of utilizing various resources. Producers, however, implement measures to reduce the consumption of materials and energy. Their aim is to cut the production costs and lower the final price of manufactured goods. Worn out furniture, produced from highly processed materials is not biodegradable. Such waste is a heavy burden on the natural environment. The paper describes „the life cycle” of furniture items and presents a critical analysis of raw materials and intermediate products used in the furniture industry in the context of sustainable development (the impact on human health and on the condition of the natural environment). It may serve as a means to promote pro-health and pro-environmental awareness. A thorough assessment of the furniture available on the market may facilitate in making conscious decisions which will also take into consideration additional technical criteria. The choice of furniture neutral for people as well as for the environment is not an easy task and often involves higher spending.

Abstract:
Research background: The development of the Slovak economy depends on the demand in foreign markets. The Slovak economy is open and responds very sensitively to global changes. Globalisation brings positive as well as negative impacts on national economies. These impacts are also noticeable in the case of value added wood products. Globally, the furniture trade has grown more quickly than furniture production in the last ten years. The value of the world furniture trade has grown by 65%. On the other hand, domestic sales of furniture are low due to the orientation of the Slovak furniture producers on export, even if at the present time the positive development is reflected in an increasing total sales volume. Purpose of the article: This paper is focused on the assessment of globalisation impact on value added wood products trade. The aim of the paper is to determine the relationship between the trends of globalisation and furniture trade in Slovakia. Methods: The development of foreign furniture trade in Slovakia was analysed. In addition, the development of the KOF globalisation index was examined in the period from 2001 to 2017 by applying the linear regression and correlation analysis. Findings & Value added: Based on the analysed results, a positive linear relationship between the development of furniture trade in Slovakia and globalisation was observed. The results further show that the impact of globalisation is more significant in the case of export of furniture rather than its import.

Abstract:
The emission rates of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were measured to investigate the emission characteristics of five types of common furniture products using a 5 m3size chamber at 25°C and 50% humidity. The results indicated that toluene andα-pinene are the most dominant components. The emission rates of individual components decreased constantly through time, approaching the equilibrium emission level. The relative ordering of their emission rates, if assessed in terms of total VOC (TVOC), can be arranged as follows: dining table > sofa > desk chair > bedside table > cabinet. If the emission rates of VOCs are examined between different chemical groups, they can also be arranged in the following order: aromatic (AR) > terpenes (TER) > carbonyl (CBN) > others > paraffin (PR) > olefin (HOL) > halogenated paraffin (HPR). In addition, if emission strengths are compared between coated and uncoated furniture, there is no significant difference in terms of emission magnitude. Our results indicate that the emission characteristics of VOC are greatly distinguished between different furniture products in terms of relative dominance between different chemicals.

Abstract:
Studies on the application of auxetic metamaterials and structures in furniture joints are very limited. However, they have huge potential for use in ready-to-assemble furniture. This study aimed to design and produce different types of auxetic dowels in 3D printing technology, and experimentally and numerically analyze the withdrawal strength of these dowels. In the scope of the study, 24 auxetic dowels with different types and size of inclusions, different diameter of holes, and a non-auxetic reference dowel were designed and produced with appropriate muffs. Dowels were 3D printed from polyamide (PA12). Poisson’s ratios, withdrawal strength, contact pressures, and friction coefficients of dowels were determined theoretically by means of numerical analyses and real static compression tests. After the pre-production of dowels, the dowels with triangular inclusions have not been found to have sufficient strength and stiffness. Withdrawal strength of dowels decreased as the size of inclusions is decreased, or dowel hole diameter is increased. Furthermore, contact pressures and stresses in auxetic dowels were considerably lower than non-auxetic dowels under the withdrawal force.

Abstract:
Background and Purpose: Black walnut ( Juglans nigra L.) was one of the first forest tree species introduced and acclimated from North America to Europe in the 17th century. Although native to North America, black walnut is now naturalized and widely planted throughout Europe. In Hungary, this species has played an important role in forest management. Black walnut can grow on various sites, but careful site selection and well-planned management practices are needed to produce successful plantations. Due to the increasing interest in black walnut growing in many countries this study complied with the aim of giving a summary on the base of research and improvement connected with the species over the past decades. Materials and Methods: Black walnut produces a well-closing, favourably differentiated stand structure in consequence of the great genetic diversity of single trees. It utilizes well the leaks of the tending cuttings. In this manner, because of its quick height growth, the systematic, individual selective method can be favourably combined with more frequent stem number reduction. The objective of tending should be to produce a high proportion of good quality saw logs from stands of yield class I, II, III and IV, and some other smaller-dimension industrial wood from stands of yield class V and VI. Conclusions: In Hungary, black walnut is one of the most valuable exotic tree species, mainly because of its wood excessively used in furniture industry. Black walnut is used in furniture industry both as solid wood and veneer. This species is among the most expensive furniture woods in the world due to its appealing surface figure and colour. Its wood is also used for making musical instruments, turned and carved ornaments, statues and marquetry. Black walnut stands are to be important in carbon sequestration, soil stabilization, and water quality protection as well.

Abstract The dynamics of the Albanian market in lieu of the multifaceted transformations following the collapse of the communist regime and moving towards the accession processes in the European Union as well as the demographics of the Albanian society as a whole, deeply impact the ways in which furniture products are designed, development and produced. This paper draws from my doctoral study which explored the transformation of furniture products from communism to post-communism. The doctoral study confirmed that: the impact of moving from mass production in a centralized economy to free mass customization in market economy has not radically transformed the fundamental properties of furniture but has affected the design, development, delivery and materiality of products. In this light, this paper will zoom into the furniture designs during post communism in Albania by exploring two principle paradigms vintage and retro. First this paper argues that furniture design and production in the centralized economy, are introduced within the vintage paradigm in post-communist. The data collecting through observation demonstrate a high level of interest for the retro design in a free market economy. As the result the paper suggest the local actors, businesses and academia to use and persist nostalgia and retro design in furniture and their component.

Abstract:
Furniture is the most personalized component of architectural space. It reflects or even determines the use of space, but also the standard of living, the gender, and age of the user. Heirlooms, furthermore, are retainers of memory and social relationships. The raw materials used and the level of skill and craftsmanship to produce furniture speak to the availability of such items for the community. Import of wood, techniques, or entire pieces of furniture show connectedness with other production centers. Furniture fragments are abundant among the well-preserved archaeological finds from the ancient Greco-Roman Town of Karanis, a site located on the arid desert edge of the Fayum basin, Egypt. Objects include furniture legs, boxes, reading tables, and table tops. The University of Michigan mission which worked on the site for about ten years (1924-1934), had as its main focus the architecture of Karanis. The furnishings of these structure do, however, provide important information and a study of the woodworking and composition of the pieces has now been undertaken, together with an attempt to place these remains back in their virtual context. The reconstruction of the Karanis furniture provides a major challenge because the fragments belong to various time periods and combine Egyptian, Greek, and Roman influences and tastes. This research is a next phase of the project “Reviving Karanis in 3D”, which we started in 2013. In this research, we aim at using state-of-the-art digital technologies to create multiple interpretations of 3D reconstruction of a selection of furniture pieces based on analysis and photogrammetric models of wood furniture fragments from the Karanis collection of the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology, University of Michigan.

Abstract:
The recent phenomenon of the modest growth in the personal luxury goods market has created an urge to face difficulties through innovative brand and marketing communication strategies. This paper examines the potentialities of strategic associations between luxury fashion brands and furniture design. The research question to be here examined is whether synergies with furniture design can represent possible innovative strategic instruments useful to compete in the global sector of the luxury fashion industry. To do so, this paper firstly examines the congruencies and the existent associations between fashion and design. Secondly, it compares luxury fashion brands with the specific furniture design market in order to verify whether and how such inter-sectoral convergence may effectively produce fluxes of value. Results indicate that the association between luxury fashion brands and collectible furniture design in particular is the most fruitful. The value of luxury brands is enhanced and consumers are provided at the same time with innovative and creative luxury experiences.

Abstract:
Influence of density on selected properties of furniture particleboards made of raspberry Rubus idaeus L. lignocellulosic particles. The aim of the research was to determine the effect of density of three layer furniture particleboard, produced in laboratory conditions, in the three different densities: 500, 650 and 800 kg/m3, on their selected mechanical and physical properties. The fraction share of the particles used, as well as bulk density of the produced particles have been also measured. The tests have shown that with increasing density of the tested panels in the mentioned range, there is a significant improvement of mechanical parameters, but the thickness swelling of the panels unfavorably raises. The density increase causes also changes in density profile.

Abstract:
This study compares samples of matched plants in Britain and Germany engaged in the manufacture of women's outerwear; it follows earlier matched plant studies, also published in the National Institute Economic Review, which examined matched plants in metalworking and furniture manufacture in these two countries. German clothing manufacturers specialise in high-fashion items produced in great variety of which a high proportion is exported at high unit prices; the typical British manufacturer concentrates on more standardised items produced in long runs and is consequently more vulnerable to competition from lower-cost producers in developing countries. The study examines the contribution of machinery, new technology and skills to differ ences in clothing productivity in the two countries. A final section discusses future trends in the industry in the light of the 1992 proposals for a Single European Market.
