Syftet med studien är att undersöka hur läsbarheten har förändrats och studera den språkliga och grafiska utvecklingen mellan fyra barnböcker där två är från 1950-talet och två är från 2000-talet. Metoden som har använts för att undersöka detta är Lennart Hellspongs läsbarhetsanalys och två stilfigurer epitet och appellation. Resultatet visar att läsbarhetsindexen är som högst i det äldre decenniet och att det yngre decenniet har ett normalt värde runt 25.
