Abstract:
Ancient mortars have been widely studied, in connection with both diagnosis and applications required for restoration. This study is primarily based on analyses of different mortar samples from a Hellenistic temple. The study was done by means of a polarizing microscope equipped for observations in transmitted and reflected light; and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD). Scanning Electron Microscopy/Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) were also used to confirm and supplement the microscopic data, and wet chemical analyses were performed on the acid filtrate for soluble oxides of Fe, Al,

Abstract:
Pottery is the most affected tool by the changes in human societies; this is due to its flexibility during forming. In order to estimate the effect of the transition of inhabitants of the urban center of Umm Qais (Gadara), north Jordan, from Byzantine (Christianity) to Umayyad (Islam) rule on pottery production traditions, a total of 29 cooking pots and sherds of pottery jars were selected. The samples were dated according to stratigraphy, archaeological context, and parallel examples to the proposed periods. The samples were investigated following the typological and archaeometric approaches.

Abstract:
This paper discusses a novel technological approach using virtual heritage technology to reflect Umm Qais heritage’s intertwining and interdependent nature that shapes its identity and value today. It developed the first model of a “virtual living museum” that brings both the tangible and intangible heritage of the site and community together into an integrated virtual environment that gives equal importance to local community narratives, traditions and history. We argue that integrating both human and digital records enriches the virtual twin of cultural heritage sites as a living and more hu

Abstract:
This study brought a new data with reference to the water system of Umm Qais during the Hellenistic and Roman periods. One of the most prominent characteristics of Umm Qais (Gadara) is the water supply system that produced a fine example of human ingenuity and skill to react with the available natural resources. The water supply system and its associated installations, such as cisterns, tunnels, channels and pools, collected and stored water from rainwater and the springs surrounding the site or far away from it. The discovered tunnel is located below the Hellenistic temple in the lower part o
