Abstract:
In this wide-ranging conversation, Berry and Galloway explore the implications of undertaking media theoretical work for critiquing the digital in a time when networks proliferate and, as Galloway claims, we need to ‘forget Deleuze’. Through the lens of Galloway’s new book, Laruelle: Against the Digital, the potential of a ‘non-philosophy’ for media is probed. From the import of the allegorical method from excommunication to the question of networks, they discuss Galloway’s recent work and reflect on the implications of computation for media theory, thinking about media objects, and critical t

We study the life path and social and political activity of Joseph Galloway – one of the most outstanding members of loyalist party during the American War of Independence in the North America. The history of loyalist movement remains one of the most controversial subjects of historical research. Over past decades, the most prominent historians have not deduced the amount, social compound and motivation of loyalists. Among “anti-heroes” of American Revolution J. Galloway traditionally attracts attention of many liberal and conservative historians. We examine the origins of outlook of the leade

Janice Galloway represents one of the most strikingly original voices in new Scottish fiction, which breaks with the tradition of conventional narratives looking back at the national history and looking up to larger-than-life male heroes. Instead, Galloway writes deftly crafted short stories of everyday life in contemporary settings, finding that the past informs the present and proceeding to explore how the stateless nation’s cultural heritage affects her characters. This paper analyses selected stories from Galloway’s collections Blood (1991) and Where You Find It (1996) from the perspective

In this paper, the Galloway mechanism is analyzed and the rules governing its motion are found. The conditions necessary for the existence of a Galloway-type spatial mechanism are then determined. The recorded history of the lordship under the House of Fergus lasted from only e. 1130 to 1231, but its origins lie in the fusion of the various peoples settled there by c. 1000. A blend of Celtic and Germanic groups created a hybrid culture that had more in common with Man and the Isles than mainland Scotland. Galwegian attitudes to and relationship with Scotland before c. 1130 are unclear, but ties with York and Man had greater value than Scottish claims to overlordship. The emergence of a powerful line of rulers kept the ambitions of the Crown in check, but any divisions in their ranks wer

Original and unpublished comments taken from personal interviews conducted with Tennant, Elphinstone, and Galloway are interwoven with textual interpretation throughout the thesis; this detailed new info

Galloping may take place for non-circular cross sections, such as an ice-coated electric power line or a riser bundle, under current action. This type of instabilities occurs at lower frequency than Vortex Induced Vibrations but with unbounded amplitude, and might be detrimental for riser integrity. In a recent joint industry project, the CITEPH “Gallopan” project, galloping instabilities were investigated for two types of cylinders: an academic square cylinder and a generic riser tower cross section. Bundle arrangements are currently used in the design of underwater riser towers or oil export lines. A bundle is made of several parallel pipes linked together at intervals. Even if individual pipes are of circular section, the global external cross-section seen by the fluid is non-circular. When placed in a current, a bundle may be therefore prone to plunge instability [6], also know as “galloping”. When designing such bundle’s section, it is important to be able to predict its susceptibility to galloping and what are the implications on the whole structure. Galloping is taking place in a low
