Abstract:
AbstractVirtual reality applications are becoming more and more popular. In addition to apparent uses like providing entertainment, VR applications are finding use in fields such as education, engineering, and architecture. The market for VR games used in medicine and sports is also thriving. The applications allow monitoring of an athlete’s progress, training advanced movements specific to a given sport, and are difficult to reproduce during traditional training. A significant advantage of this type of solution is the increased safety of the user and, thus, a lower risk of injury. The article presents a VR application designed for the training of a powerlifting triathlon. This sport consists of three exercises. They are performed by both strength athletes and those training in other sports to prepare for the season properly. Due to the fact that they are simple multi-joint exercises, they fall into the collection of exercises often performed by amateur trainers. Despite their significant popularity and the undoubted advantages of performing them, it is often observed that they are performed incorrectly, which significantly increases the risk of injury. The purpose of the application is to enable safe training and learning of correct movement patterns of powerlifting exercises, regardless of the user’s level of proficiency.

Abstract:
AbstractThe city command and control center (C4) can be considered as the heart of a smart city. In this sense, the big picture is that the C4 integrates local urban services and teams to make the city run smoothly and efficiently for residents, businesses, and visitors, guaranteeing people’s safety and security, by providing prompt responses to risks and occurrences (unexpected or expected). To achieve this, three major roles need to be well covered by C4: to identify risks and problems; to integrate planning and operations; and to communicate with citizens and city teams. Big events in venues—or having urban open spaces as venues—gather in specific regions more people, risks and, consequently, more complexities, forcing the C4 to adapt its operational arrangement to deal with these temporary scenarios. Based on Rio de Janeiro’s experiences such as the annual carnival parades and the 2016 Olympic Games, this chapter aims to highlight lessons learned and best practices regarding city command and control for big events as key element to deliver, as results, higher levels of city operational governance for events and minimizing its impacts in citizens’ daily routines. The topics covered includes communication strategies with citizens and operational teams; integrated operational planning within the C4; real-time monitoring; risks and contingencies assessments, via exercises; and rearrangement of C4 for street events. Authors utilized participant observation as methodology to develop this chapter, as they gathered information from direct participation in the working processes in Rio, and organized it in knowledge that can be used as reference for Sure project and other cities’ initiatives worldwide

Abstract:
Exercise gaming has been receiving a significant interest from both consumers and researchers. Be it for the purposes of weight loss, physical fitness or even just enjoyment, the potential of games to support rehabilitation has also been under investigation for a while. Due to our aging society, game based therapies could be a solution for optimizing resources and reducing rehabilitation costs. This paper aims to discuss the potential capacity of games as systems to enhance the relation of physical exercise and cognition for the rehabilitation of Parkinson Disease. Our investigation demonstrates that there is no established methodology for games in rehabilitation of Parkinson's addressing how games can encapsulate physical exercise strategies while providing safety, continuous monitoring and cognitive development exercises in facilitation of rehabilitation. Since rehabilitation with games is trending, yet to be developed rehabilitation strategies would benefit from new insights into the relationship between game worlds, physical exercise and motor-cognitive training. Therefore, it is useful to do further research into realizing (1) a relational model that demonstrates the relation between game world (composed of game features including formal game elements, audio-visual features, mechanics and dynamics), motor skills, cognition and physical exercise for both generic and specific rehabilitation purposes, (2) a structured task creation approach for game features that reconciles specific rehabilitation outcomes, correct level of engagement, task difficulty and safety requirements for target demographic.

Full text
Abstract:
Knee injuries are a common concern in orthopedic and sports medicine, often requiring extensive rehabilitation to restore function and alleviate pain. The rehabilitation process can be long and challenging, necessitating innovative approaches to engage and motivate patients effectively. Serious games have emerged as a promising tool in rehabilitation, offering an interactive and enjoyable way to perform therapeutic exercises. In this context, a new serious game that leverages the Wii Fit Balance Board as an input device supported by a keyboard to aid knee rehabilitation was developed. To tailor the game to the specific needs of knee rehabilitation, qualitative content analysis and requirement extraction based on three interviews with therapists were conducted. These insights were then iteratively integrated into the game’s development, ensuring that the final game was both clinically relevant and engaging. A therapist subsequently re-evaluated the completed game, confirming its potential to enhance the rehabilitation process. It was also shown that further research is needed to detect squat movements on the Balance Board. But this initial approach, combining the Wii Fit Balance Board with squat exercises, uniquely addresses the challenges of knee rehabilitation, offering a novel video and game solution.

The benefit of virtual rehabilitation is that it helps the patient increase their engagement and motivation. Another advantage is that it allows patient specific. A third utility is that the therapist can make the sessions more efficient and productive. A feature of virtual reality (VR) rehabilitation is that it is possible to create virtual environments which are more realistic than those in a video game and in which the patients can perform exercises. As a result, the patients are more immersed and motivated to avoid the boredom from which patients in standard therapy usually suffer. The features of artificial intelligence (AI) in biomedicine are the optimisation of diagnostics, treatment, and patient monitoring. AI allows for the analysis to have the potential to detect subtle deviations. In this chapter, the application of virtual reality and artificial intelligence in healthcare was discussed.

A widening gap exists between the understanding of regulation ‘on the books’ and how regulation is exercised in practice. Utilizing the concept of regulatory space, I examine the on-going regulation of ‘loot box’ monetization within the video game industry. Over the period of 2014 to 2018, several legislative attempts to regulate loot boxes have occurred internationally. While each of these pieces of regulation, whether successful or not, is framed within specific nation-states, the shifting landscape of regulation surrounding monetization impacts production and consumption of games worldwide. I argue for a de-centred approach to examine regulation of loot boxes to incorporate the global interconnections of various actors, including corporations, nation state governments, consumers, and independent regulatory bodies.

Abstract:
This chapter discusses the key principles of noncooperative game theory with the aid of several examples. To characterize a game, several items must be specified; for example, the players are the agents that make decisions. For a mathematical solution to a game, it is also important to make assumptions on the player's rationality, regarding questions such as: Will the players always pursue their best interests to fulfill their objectives? Will the players form coalitions? Will the players trust each other? The chapter proceeds by using the rope-pulling game to examine the motivation and implications of assuming a noncooperative vs. cooperative framework. It also considers the robust design problem and its formalization into a resistive circuit design game, a network routing game, and the Nash equilibrium before concluding with a practice exercise related to the network routing game, complete with solution.

Abstract:
Chapter 10 discusses conceptual analysis. It argues we should try to define terms in as non-normative a manner as possible. Whilst defining terms for specific purposes is justified we cannot expect to define important political concepts in a universal manner without acknowledging the research question that is being posed as part of that analysis. Whilst defining terms by necessary and sufficient conditions will always seem desirable, given that society changes and morality develops normative terms will evolve and change over time much like species. The chapter returns the essential contestability and suggests that some concepts are actually incoherent once we try to bring precision. This incoherence is hidden by their vagueness in application. It argues that power is not a vague term in the sense that freedom or democracy are. The analyses of power in this book is designed to give a scientific account of our folk understandings and enable a scientific description and analysis of the power and luck structure. It returns to the type-token distinction bringing out how important the distinction is to the analysis of power in the book, which is directed at type-level explanations. The analysis is comparative statics, but dynamic game theory can provide a way to examine token power struggles as they unfold. It shows how the analysis offered in the book is structural despite seeing power as measured by the resources of agents – their capacity is given by the power and luck structure. It acknowledges that deep structure goes right into the heart of the formation of human preferences.

Definitive in functional training is that the impact of the exercises is not on isolated muscles, but to influence, to develop the movement as a whole. Functional training is the most important part in the first years of training in any sports game, the basis of children’s motor skills. The main idea of functional training is not to train the muscle, but the movement, which represents

An important factor that positively influences people's health is regular exercise. Because of their repetitiveness, however, they can be considered boring, a fact that is discouraging for some practitioners. Serious games have been introduced as a solution to the problem of physical inactivity that is said to be partly caused by traditional video games and have become increasingly popular due to the emergence of consoles such as Nintendo Wii, Xbox One or Playstation that use gesture interaction interfaces. In this new method, traditional games are combined with user-generated moves that help

Many studies highlight the relationship between emotional state and behaviour. Emotions influence elderly people especially on physical activity and their mobility. It was shown that people with positive emotions perform more physical activity and have less difficulty in walking. Thus we can say that positive emotions can be associated with mobility in case of older people. Some older people may develop fear of moving, leading to reduce the outdoor mobility. To date, the priority directions in the scientific and methodological substantiation and training of volleyball players are the search for innovative means and methods of training at various stages of the training process. However, the analysis of the scientific and methodological literature allows us to conclude that in practice many coaches adhere to outdated views on the issues of planning and organizing the improvement of technical training. In our opinion, this is associated with lack of methodological developments of training sessions in different periods

We just paraphrased a radio formula in order to explain that it is not need to force students to learn, but we can offer them attractive ways of acquiring knowledge, for example a game. Because nowadays almost every person has a smartphone, and students use smartphones more than PCs, we build games available to mobile devices (smartphone, tablets). Thus, even if they play simple exercises, their brain is working. Furthermore, by a mechanism of reward, they are motivated and want to play again in order to improve their performance, s

Recently, the potential of using commercially available computer game engines to implement virtual engineering experiments (which represent pure computer simulations) has been explored by various educational institutions. Using a game engine in conjunction with a corresponding software development kit, it is possible for educators to replace the content of an existing computer game with educational content, thus creating virtual laboratory environments. The utilization of game engines for educational purposes is expected to increase the degree of immersive presence of the students engaging in
