Methane (CH 4 ), nitrous oxide (N20) and sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) are powerful greenhouse gases with global budgets that are well-known but regional distributions that are not adequately constrained for the purposes of mitigation and policy initiatives. Quantifying emissions using inverse approaches at the national scale requires measurements that specifically target the region of interest. Primarily due to the lack of atmospheric measurements from the region, emissions estimates of these greenhouse gases from India have largely been missing. New in situ measurements of atmospheric mole fractions from a Himalayan station in Darjeeling, India (27.03'N, 88.26'E, 2200 meters above sea level) have been collected from December 2011 for CH4 and March 2012 for N20 and SF6 to February 2013 using high-precision instrumentation that is linked to the Advanced Global Atmospheric Gases Experiment (AGAGE). These measurements comprise the first high-frequency dataset of these gases collected in India and are used for measurement-based assessment of emissions. Several features are identified. In SF6 , the signal associated with Northern Hemispheric background is typically present. CH4 and N20 mole fractions are almost always enhanced over the background, suggesting strong regional sources. Additionally, a diurnal signal resulting from thermally driven winds is seasonally present. A particle dispersion model is used to track 'air histories' of measurements, quantifying the sensitivity of concentrations at Darjeeling to surface emissions. The effect of topography on the derived air histories is investigated to test the robustness of the model in simulating transport in this complex environment. The newly acquired data set is used to investigate the ability of the model to reproduce signals that stem from the mesoscale diurnal winds. The sensitivities of meteorological resolution and particle release height are investigated to better quantify some of the uncertainties associated with this chemical transport model. A Quasi-Newton inverse method is used to estimate emissions at monthly resolution. CH4 , N20 and SF6 emissions from India are found to be 44.3% Tg yr- 1, 825 1045/707 GgN yr- 1 and 221 241/205 kton yr-', respectively. Significant uncertainty reduction is seen on emissions from India during the summer when the monsoon results in high sensitivity over the subcontinent.

Cayre, Emilie. "La monumentalisation des portes et accès en Asie Mineure à l'époque romaine." Thesis, Bordeaux 3, 2013. http://www.theses.fr/2013BOR30041.
Full textThis thesis deals with the architecture of passage that punctuate the course of a visitor or a citizen in the urban landscape of Asia Minor : propylaea, city-gates and arches on street. Our work focused on the cities of Asia Minor with no geographical limits in order to provide an overall view of the phenomenon. This study was divided into two major groups : the propylaea on the one hand and city-gates and arches on street on the other hand. The propylaea were the monumental entrances to shrines, agorai, gymnasiums and bouleuteria. Our study includes the propylaea from the classical period to the Roman era. Classical propylaea were mainly the monumental entrances to the major hecatomnid's shrines-terraces of Caria. In the Hellenistic period, the propylaea multiplied and tuned into religious and secular backgrounds. Most Roman propylaea made up monumental entrances added to existing complexes, few being part of a new one. We find some propylaea that went back over formulas of the Hellenistic period, others with monumental edicular façade, those in the form of the a Roman arch and finally the propylaea reproducing the form of "Marmorsaal". City-gates, that were completely devoid of any defensive features, developed in the peaceful period of the Pax Romana. They marked the boundary between the inside and the outside of the city, were a real topographical landmark and, as the first glimpse of the city for the visitors, heralded its splendor and highlighted the value of the urbanitas. These city-gates were either new city-gates inserted into the ancient city-walls, free of any city-walls, or old city-gates rearranged. The street arches were built on a colonnaded street or at a crossroads for urban, organic and aesthetic reasons. While beautifying a course, they structured and punctuated it as well as serving as landmarks. Their richly decorated facades participated in the beautification and animation of the urban landscape. These arches appear as a component of an urban program. Some of them were honorific or commemorative. In Roman times, the architecture of passage reflected changes in the political life and social structure. The self-representation, the imperial propaganda and the fierce competition between cities would play a major part in the designing of these monuments. Their richness and splendor must have impressed visitors and thus enhanced the city's power and glory picture. They participated in its ornamentation

Full textThis paper is about locating the meaning of a series of games known as the Dark Souls series in relation to contemporary social conditions in Japan. I argue that the game should be thought of as an emblem of the current cultural zeitgeist, in a similar way one might identify something like Jack Kerouac’s The Dharma Bums as an emblem of the counter cultural 60s. I argue that the Dark Souls series expresses in allegorical form an anxiety about living in a time where the meaning of our everyday actions and even society itself has become significantly destabilized. It does this through a fractured approach to story-telling, that is interspersed with Buddhist metaphysics and wrapped up in macabre, gothic aesthetic depicting the last gasping breath of a once great kingdom. This expression of contemporary social anxiety is connected to the discourse of postmodernity in Japan. Through looking at these games as a feedback loop between text, environment and ludic system, I connect the main conceptual motifs that structure the games as a whole with Osawa Masachi’s concept of the post-fictional era and Hiroki Azuma’s definition of the otaku.

Full textThe identification and accurate quantification of sinks or sources of GHG has become a key challenge for scientists and policy makers groups working on climate change or global warming. The creation of a hydro-reservoir while damming a river for power generation converts the terrestrial ecosystems into aquatic ecosystem and subsequently decomposition of flooded terrestrial soil organic matter stimulates GHG productions and thereby emissions to atmosphere. Tropical or subtropical hydroelectric reservoirs are more significant sources of GHG than boreal or temperate one. The number of hydroelectric reservoirs continues to increase at fast pace specially in the tropical or sub-tropical regions which still hold significant amount of hydropower resources to be exploited. In this context, we study the subtropical hydroelectric Nam Theun 2 (NT2) Reservoir, a complex-structuraldesigned, created on the Nam Theun River in Laos PDR. The main aims of our study are to: (1) Study the GHG dynamics (CH4, N2O and CO2) in the reservoir and in the whole area of influence (downstream and drawdown areas), (2) explore the effectiveness of different methodology (eddy covariance, floating chamber, submerged funnel and thin boundary layer) to assess of GHG emission from a hydroelectric reservoir, (3) determine the environmental controls on the different emission terms; (4) attempt to determine the first net GHG budget of a subtropical hydroelectric reservoir

Abstract Developments of “Shooting Sport” have popularized through out the world. It was included in the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. The Asia Games also added shooting as one of the contests from 1954. Since 1960, Mainland China has put great emphasis on developments of shooting sport. At present, four of the seventeen Olympic Games shooting contests records (air pistol men and women, sport pistol women, and ten meter running target men) were set by the CHN delegation. However, due to the control of firearms and only a small number of participants, the progress of shooting sport in ROC is very limited. Thus, the PRC shooting delegation had achieved records that surpassed our own over the years, and it would be a great task to be able to catch up with them. This report, “Shooting Sport in Olympic Games and Asia Games: Air Pistol and Sport Pistol”, is a collection of the author’s twenty-two years experiences as both contestant and trainer. It also includes the sports science knowledge, which the author acquired from two-year master program studies, and researches regarding the ROC shooting contestants and other relative training information both domestically and internationally. It is hoped that this report would help to bring about an elevation in our shooters’ abilities so as to accomplish the goals of winning in Asia Games and Olympic Games. The paper consists of the following seven chapters: 1. Introduction: it gives grief insight into the genesis of shooting sport and its domestic and international developments, and a synopsis of Olympic Games and Asia Zone Games contests. An analysis of air pistol and sport pistol results in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney and ROC shooters is made and compared so that readers can discern ROC shooting standard among other countries and use it as a reference to target management. 2. Introduction of Rules: it mainly explains specifications of air pistol and sport pistol (i.e. pistol model, bullets, and target papers), and describes a shooting range and its facilities. Future development trends of these two contests are also discussed in this chapter. 3. Basic Techniques of Pistol Shooting: it investigates the characteristics of shooting sport, and explains basic techniques of pistol shooting comprehensively. 4. Instructions in Individual Techniques: this chapter emphasizes on instructions in individual techniques of air pistol and sport pistol. It also investigates factors, which influence the accuracy of shooting, according to shooting theories and other reference documents. 5. Methods and Plans for Training: it includes fundamental steps toward training of shooting techniques, synthesized training methods and physical strength training. It highlights the points of emphasis in these trainings, and cites arrangements of various training periods based on their forbearance principles. 6. Mental Training of Shooting Contestants: this chapter illustrates results of psychological warfare of ROC pistol and rifle shooters so as to show the importance of mental training. It then proceeds to introduce the contents of such training and ways a shooter implements and combines technical trainings. Lastly, recommendations concerning the mental preparations and adjustments of contestants before, during, and after a game are listed. Some mental training diagrams and examples are also given at eth end of the chapter. 7. Composition and Management of a Shooting Team: this chapter investigates selection of shooters and leadership of a coach. The importance of safety management of shooting team, pistols, bullets, and shooting range is also emphasized here.

Abstract With the basic needs of modern society largely taken care of, entertainment has risen as an important new industry sector. Statistics published by the Institute for Information Technology’s Market Intelligence Center (MIC) show that, while the movie and music industries are already multi-million dollar industries, it was the rise of the game industry that triggered society’s unwitting entry into the digital content age. With advance of technologies related to the Internet, the communications and semiconductor industries, and consumer electronics, most products have begun incorporating entertainment elements. Furthermore, the realism of modern game software has already been adapted to train professional pilots. The growing demands on software to exploit the full potential of the latest semiconductor and electronics technologies indicate the high level of realism already present in gaming content. However, the now extensive game software industry has been the source of various social problems, which have, in turn, led game content to lose its originality and creativity. This is a key problem facing the game industry and a new challenge for game designers. In addition to artistic design and programming sophistication, “playability” is a factor critical to the quality and repetitive-play potential of a game. This study selected ten highly popular games in order to analyze what it was about these games that made them such a success. Concurrently, a questionnaire was used to single out the key gaming elements sought after by game players. The scope of this research was limited to East Asia’s game industry (specifically, the four markets of Korea, Japan, China and Taiwan) and used the results of our abovementioned analysis to first explore and define differences between the game industries of these four markets and then identify game qualities that should be incorporated into a future “Taiwan game” brand image. Analysis of the literature and personal interviews were also used to explore discrepancies between practical experience and theory. The expected results of this research include: 1) identification of current trends in Taiwan’s game industry; 2) incorporation of games into the highest cultural levels; 3) identification of other items of popular culture that can also have potentially positive impacts upon society. This research aims to investigate the construction of medal winning in Chinese Taipei from 1998~2006, comparing to the National Olympic Committee (NOC) in the second group. It further analyzes the continuous development of competitive sports in Chinese Taipei. Literature analysis is used in this research. The results show that Chinese Taipei’s performance has seriously shrunk, receiving fewer medals gradually. Chinese Taipei won nine gold medals in archery, baseball, bowling, billiards, golf, karate, soft tennis, taekwondo and tennis, followed by medals in basketball, rugby, softball and table tennis. In addition, Chinese Taipei won most medals in the skill classification, with accuracy, grapple antagonism and net-separation antagonism being the best strengths. Medal winning has highest ratio in “non economical” and least ratio in “most economical” category, which indicates that the training lacks economic efficiency. Moreover, there are more female medalists then male medalists. In comparison with National Olympic Committee (NOC) in the second group, Chinese Taipei performed best in terms of “accuracy” in the skill classification. Numbers of male and female medalists in Chinese Taipei are about the same ratio compare to other countries. As for the possibility of consecutive medal winning in Chinese Taipei are archery, baseball, basketball (women), billiards (pool 8 ball and pool 9 ball), golf, karate, shooting (trap), soft tennis, softball, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis and cycling-site race (speed classification), a total of 13 events.

The result of the 8 participates, they all satisfied with the environment and the respect from others. There were only two participants satisfied with the salary and the fringe benefit and satisfied with their training in the pressure from the self-performance, coaches and team record performance. For training, in quality of life research, respondents in the most casual sense of life satisfaction and demand for goods and learning opportunities feelings of discontent. The quality of life without training, only 3 participants have the feeling of dissatisfaction with coach interactive, and 2 participants didn’t pleased with the relationship of friends. This study suggests that the basketball enterprises will clearly regulate the rights and obligations of players in salary and the distribution of more transparent, and communicate more with the players and strengthen the education. Apart from strengthening the self-training and requirements, the more important things are self-content and strengthen social interaction and interpersonal skills.

Double of table tennis is one of the hopes that we can win the Asian game. But now in Taiwan, our new double of table tennis’s performance is not well. The study is going to research for Chiang peng-lung and Chuan Chih-Yuan integrated technical performances in present stage. We hope to find the overcoming strategy by using scientific ways, and collect the integrated analysis of each technical and tactics to improve strength of double of table tennis in Taiwan and achieve the purpose of getting the gold. The research collect Chiang peng-lung and Chuan Chih-Yuan’s technical and tactics join the international games recently. Based on table tennis fundamental technical characteristic, we could divide the main techniques into serve attack phase, double cutting phase, pushing phase, and mutual attack phase. We watch the video to record every kind of technique form the table tennis record sheet. From a point of view to actual combat and enter the data of each attack and defend technique ability, the receive data use the PC computer, SPSS for Windows soft of histogram and analyze by using the gray connection analysis. Set each the histogram test outstanding level α=0.5. The results are: (1) Chiang peng-lung and Chuan Chih-Yuan integrated technical performances in present stage: The highest scores in the item of serve attack phase are forehand side service, forehand side drive and backhand side poke attack. But forehand side double cut, forehand side attached and backhand side attacked ones lose more scores in the serve attack phase technique. The highest scores in the item of receive attack phase are forehand side double cut, forehand side poke attack and forehand side drive. But forehand side poke attack, forehand side drive and forehand side double cut lose more scores in the receive attack phase technique. In the double cut phase, forehand side drive phase, backhand side double cut, and backhand side drive gains more scores: But forehand/backhand side drive and backhand side push also lose much scores. In pushing phase, forehand/backhand side push, backhand side drive gains more scores .But forehand side drive, backhand side push and backhand side drive lose more scores. In mutual attack phase, backhand side drive and forehand side mutual attack gains more scores. But forehand side mutual attack and backhand drive lose many score. (2) By stepwise regression analysis, we could find the technical items which affect the score performances in present games are forehand side serve attack phase(X1), forehand side receive attack phase(X3), backhand side pushing phase (X8), forehand side double cutting phase(X5), backhand side receive attack phase (X4), backhand side double cutting phase(X6), forehand side pushing phase(X7), backhand side serve attack phase(X2), forehand side mutual attack phase (X9), backhand side mutual attack phase(X10). So we can know the actively performance of third board’s serve attack phase and forth board’s receive attack phase affects Chiang peng-lung and Chuan Chih-Yuan game results a lot. We need to enhance and keep in a planned way. Performances on forehand/backhand side mutual attack phase are not good. We have to make improve to break through the choke point.(3) From this study, we can find in each technical & tactics performance. Chuan Chih-Yuan is better than Chiang peng-lung. But double of table tennis is two person’s game, tacit agreement and tactics are very important. Only they help each other, developing individual special skills and supplementing shortcoming. That is, they can bring talent in double table tennis and win the game.

Full textWith full scale Romanization during the early days of the Empire, the Romans propagated their culture all across the Mediterranean region. Gladiatorial games were in Asia Minor a significant feature of the Roman culture implanted amid the Greek population. The Hellenistic theaters were modified to accommodate this new Roman entertainment. This contribution is about all that surrounds these places and the Greek gladiators who fought in them during the first three centuries of our era ; it explores those Greek warriors in spectacle, festival and imperial cult. Four cities are studied : Ephesos, Aphrodisias, Attaleia and Side. The choice of these examples, it is hoped, will allow a better understanding of the development of this phenomenon in big urban centers as well as in smaller cities.

This study explores the conflict causes and decision-making games in cross-strait interaction since Taiwan started using the name ‘Chinese Taipei’ in major international sports competitions organized by the China. Taiwan started using the name of Chinese Taipei after signing of both the Olympic Formula in 1981 and the Olympic Committee’s Agreement in Hong Kong in 1989. Taiwan has since participated major international sports competitions, such as the 11th Asian Games Beijing in 1990, the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics and the 16th Asian Games Guangzhou 2010. This study uses methods of historical research, literature review and case studies to collect/analyze evidence on documents such as academic literatures, government public newspapers, websites and papers from official institutions on both sides and so on. The study suggests that the sources of a majority of cross-strait conflicts have to do with delegation names, flags and order of approach into the stadiums. Conflicts have been seen to persist, even after several tournaments of cross-strait ‘interactions’. From the actions and decision-making by both sides in ‘the moment’, the study discovers that the cross-strait relationship is slowly shifting from a ‘zero-sum game’ to cooperation. However, there looms a fear of betrayal, as in ‘the prisoner’s dilemma’. The study concludes that the majority of the cross-strait conflicts are due to sovereignty issues. Because both governments can make effective decisions, these types of conflicts can be solved through negotiation and arbitration to mediate the relationship between Taiwan and China. Comparing decision making patterns from both sides, the study discovered that both parties’ decisions are mutually affective. When conflicts arise regarding sovereignty, the two sides present uncooperative tendencies. Although in cases of minor controversy, the two sides show more cooperative tendencies. Finally, the study found that the role of the International Olympic Committee is an important factor in maintaining the game structure on both sides.

The progression of technology has led to the development of social media. The ways of message transmission have been changed tremendously. Many sports management related researches discussed about the relationship between social media and sport organization, athletes, clubs, league, etc., but only few of them included the usage of social media in sport organization of Asian and Olympics Games. This study adopted case study method through in-depth interviews to analyzed the social media usage in four sport organizations (Chinese Taipei Ice Hockey Federation, Chinese Taipei Tennis Federation, Chinese Taipei Basketball Association and Chinese Taipei Baseball Association). Analysis included social media usage, management strategy and future prospects by each organization. Furthermore, this study compared individual associations in different terms. This study presented a way for sport association of Asian and Olympics Games establishes relationships with relevant stakeholders through social media and the presentation of internal business aspects. This study found that the sport associations of Asian and Olympics Games lack of strong motivation of operating social media. Also, all of the associations are shortage in human and financial resources to progress social media development. Most associations used one-way communication mode to disseminate information which neglected the feature of social media. Although internet is one of the best channel for non-profit organizations to gain specific intentions; there is lack of interaction between sport associations and the audience on social media platform. Therefore, this study suggests sport associations should increase interaction message types and two-way communication model. Also, organization should established a solid social media management plan for target audience and stakeholder, it may build a positive public image and strengthen public relationship.

This study looks at the popular Taiwan newspapers and their coverage of the 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand. The focus of this study is to analyze the construct and combination of the text. This analysis will be done by utilizing the following four questions: 1. What is the structure of the narrative found in the text? 2. What type of metaphor utilized in the text ? 3. How is fact analysis used to bias the tone of the text? 4. How are time elements used within the text? The results of of these four questions were concluded as follows: 1. Narrative Analysis -- Through this analysis two issues arose. The first concerns how the text narrative represents the R.O.C. representatives pursuit of the gold medal. The second concerns how the narrative text represents the setting''s atmosphere. The first one can be divided into 14 steps all of the steps being connected to each other and works as a series. The second part can be divided into 7 steps that focus on building the atmosphere such as nervousness, business, worry, opposition, and ceremony. 2. Metaphor Analysis -- Through the metaphor analysis the context of the report can be categorized into 18 different areas. Each area is divided into a main metaphor and a sub-metaphore. Each of these 18 metaphors represent four kinds of situations: a) sometimes opposing metaphors are found in a single text and will interact with each other; b) a metaphor for war is found in every article; c) metaphors that reflect society''s economic situation. These metaphors fit into two categories. The first are those that relate to the stock market and the second are those that benefits gained through winning, d) metaphors that work to put new life into the sport. 3. Factual and Unfactual Language Analysis -- This analysis shows that it is common for factual and unfactual language to exist in the same text. Sporting reports attempt to use language that is most commonly found in literature. These reports use the six questions; who, what, when, where, why, how. It is common for reports containing factual and unfactual language to use Chinese with occasional Taiwanese added. 4. Time Element Analysis -- Through the time element analysis it is found that report texts contain an abundance time words. These time words construct the games time and space. They include the time of events, natural setting, movement, history, the clock, and records. Scientific time elements and the time of the environment in which humans exist are found in the reports text. Time elements in a report text are affected by the bias of the author. The author Has freedom to choose what elements are included and what are left out. The author can also bias the report through the reorganization of time elements to fit their purposes. This relates to the time elements of the narrative. The content of the report will always show the past, present, and future. In this way the reader can experience the depth of the history of the sport. The graph in the diagram shows this interaction of space and time. The story of the gold medal winner shows how the time is extended in this situation.

Place Location Knowledge (PLK) is essential for Geography Learning and Geographical literacy because it can help learners build up authentic geography knowledge. In order to achieve this goal, traditional geography teaching principle applies blank map, which only improves students’ memorization of coordinates instead of their spatial thinking. The purpose of the study is to improve the traditional teaching principle with” The Great Pilot”, a digital game which integrates Adobe Flash, ASP, Google Map and provides students an on-line platform to promote their PLK. The game targets the knowledge about countries in Asia. It includes three parts – “Fly To The Global Village,” a jigsaw puzzle, ”International Traveling Is Fun, ” a Google Map interactive game and “Crazy Ground Service,” a question game. Each part has three levels based on difficulties. In order to evaluate the efficacy, the researcher chose two schools in Taoyuan County as samples. One is a junior high school and the other is a high school. Students should play the game with Asia PLK pre-and post-tests and users’ satisfaction survey. All their answers were under Pearson Correlation Analysis. The results show that “The Great Pilot” can improve students’ PLK of nation. It points out a relationship between economy development, print media and students’ PLK. Besides, the comparative distance in Taiwan is related to students’ spatial thinking. In addition, there is no strong relationship between the size of the state and politic stability. The result also shows that students’ knowledge about North Asia is better. After playing the game, students felt enriched and glad to take this game as a supplemental learning tool. This study is expected to be a reference material for geography teachers.

With the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, new independent countries emerged on the political map of the world. Among them were five Central Asian countries Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Three of them Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan were rich in oil and gas reserves. The world community has paid attention to the newly independent Central Asian countries because of their rich natural reserves and strategic location. Such great powers as the United States, Russia, China, and European Union have entered into a competition over the energy resources of the region. And this competition is getting tenser as the world energy reserves shrinks, prices for oil and gas increases. This paper intends to examine a “New Great Game’s one aspect – the competition for the Central Asian energy resources. Is this New Great Game all about competition of great powers for the Central Asian energy resources? If so, how important the Central Asian energy resources are? This paper argues that the great powers consider acquiring more control over Central Asian energy resources would provide them better positions and terms in the New Great Game. The Central Asian countries consider their energy resources as a warrantor of their economic development and one of the tools of strengthening newly gained independence. Thus, gaining more control over the Central Asian energy resources is likely to provide any power leverage over the Central Asian region. Recent energy related agreements and deals between the great powers and the Central Asian states shows us that nowadays the New Great Game is mainly stipulated by the energy resources of the region.
