Abstract:
Abstract We introduce Generative Adversarial Networks for Data-Limited Fingerprinting (GANDaLF), a new deep-learning-based technique to perform Website Fingerprinting (WF) on Tor traffic. In contrast to most earlier work on deep-learning for WF, GANDaLF is intended to work with few training samples, and achieves this goal through the use of a Generative Adversarial Network to generate a large set of “fake” data that helps to train a deep neural network in distinguishing between classes of actual training data. We evaluate GANDaLF in low-data scenarios including as few as 10 training instances per site, and in multiple settings, including fingerprinting of website index pages and fingerprinting of non-index pages within a site. GANDaLF achieves closed-world accuracy of 87% with just 20 instances per site (and 100 sites) in standard WF settings. In particular, GANDaLF can outperform Var-CNN and Triplet Fingerprinting (TF) across all settings in subpage fingerprinting. For example, GANDaLF outperforms TF by a 29% margin and Var-CNN by 38% for training sets using 20 instances per site.

Abstract:
Abstract. GANDALF (Gas Analyzer for Nitrogen Dioxide Applying Laser-induced Fluorescence), a new instrument for the detection of nitrogen dioxide based on the laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) technique, is presented in this paper. GANDALF is designed for ground-based and airborne deployment with a robust calibration system. In the current set-up, it uses a multi-mode diode laser (447–450 nm) and performs in situ, continuous, and autonomous measurements with a laser pulse repetition rate of 5 MHz. The performance of GANDALF was tested during the summer of year 2011 (15 August–10 September) in a field experiment at Kleiner Feldberg, Germany. The location is within a forested region with an urban influence, where NOx levels were between 0.12 and 22 parts per billion by volume (ppb). Based on the field results, the limit of detection is estimated at 5–10 parts per trillion by volume (ppt) in 60 s at a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 2. The overall accuracy and precision of the instrument are better than 5 % (1σ) and 0.5 %+3 ppt (1σ min−1), respectively. A comparison of nitrogen dioxide measurements based on several techniques during the field campaign PARADE 2011 is presented to explore methodic differences.

Abstract:
AbstractA hawaiite dyke dated at 3.88 ± 0.05 Ma from the Mount Morning eruptive centre intrudes a diamictite deposit at Gandalf Ridge in the southern Ross Sea. The dyke has been dextrally offset up to 6 m horizontally by faults interpreted as the onshore continuation of the West Antarctic rift system (WARS) fault array. Felsic dykes emplaced during the Miocene are also present at Gandalf Ridge. The offset of the Miocene dykes is equivalent to the offset on the hawaiite dyke, suggesting that at this locality movement on faults within WARS has been restricted to a period more recent than c. 3.88 Ma. Over this period the minimum average rate of movement on these faults within WARS is 0.0015 mm yr-1.

Abstract:
The Lord of the Rings is one of the most read novels throughout history. Its popularity is huge and it has a fan-base matched only by that of Star Trek and Star Wars. It is believed that its popularity is due to its applicability and its many interesting characters – which all have different personalities and appeal to different people. One of the most popular main characters is the powerful wizard Gandalf. In this essay, I argue that in Tolkien’s novel The Lord of the Rings, Gandalf's relationship to Frodo is constructed as a mentorship as defined by the modern pedagogical research, in order to examine what affect Gandalf's mentoring has on Frodo. In order to confirm this, it will first be established that Gandalf and Frodo has the potential to be in a mentoring relationship. Second, a close reading of the novel will be undertaken, analyzing Gandalf's and Frodo's interaction, comparing it to the interaction between a "good mentor" and his mentee, as defined by modern pedagogical research. Third, I will analyze how Gandalf's actions as a mentor influence Frodo's development and actions in the novel. This study shows that Gandalf and Frodo did indeed interact in the way of a mentor and his mentee. Furthermore, Gandalf performed his role the way a "good mentor" should; he asked questions, challenged productivity, encouraged risk-taking, helped to identify goals, listened actively, offered encouragement, promoted independence, provided feedback, shared critical knowledge, provided structure and gradually granted Frodo more responsibilities – the way a "good mentor" should. This all contributed to Frodo's success in helping him develop confidence, competence, self-knowledge, self-sufficiency and determination.

With this research it is intended to analyse the way of acting of the character Gandalf departing from a theoretical-critical approach of The Lord of the Rings, J. R. R. Tolkien’s masterpiece, and by this, searching the enlightment and better understanding of how this character acts on the paths of the narrative and how this acting makes possible the existence of narrative itself, by balancing or even unbalancing the plot’s compass. The way he moves and acts in the plot allows us to conclude that Gandalf is the responsible for manipulating the narrative elements. He makes possible the connection among different elements of the plot, boosting the narrative. There is a mobilization of theories concerning the character's performance and the literary context to do such analysis. The theories are related to the genres novel, epic, fairy tale, romance and myth, as well as to the psychoanalysis, the religion, the character and the hero. Departing from the study of the referred character, it is intended to contribute, in the last resort, to a better understanding of the fictional universe created by the author and a better comprehension of the resources used in the composition of the reported character’s performance in the narrative, an aspect that was not properly approached and analysed by the critics on the work of the author.

This thesis attempts to present the entire career of antonio de la gandara (paris, 1861 – paris, 1917) in the form of a catalogue raisonne of his paintings and drawings, precedeed by a biographical volume. This first volume charts his career from his debut at gerome's and the cabaret du chat noir to his succesful exhibition in 1893 at durand-ruel's gallery, which brought him prestigious portrait comissions from the european aristocracy and high bourgeoisie. It provides the opportunity to define the place of his work as a portrait painter among the so-called " mondains " portraitistes at the end of the 19th century and the begining of the 20th century.
This work aims to analyze the historical genre in Pero Magalhães Gandavo. We took as textual sources from the author the princepsedition of the work História da Provincia Sãcta Cruz a que vulgarmente chamamos Brasil, oficina of Antonio Gonsalves in 1576, available at: . To make this research, we try to take as rhetorical authorities Aristotle, Cicero and Quintilian and the [anonymous] from Rhetoric to Herennius, because in our case these rethorics were the authorities used in Portugal between 1570 and 1580. Among the authorities in old historiography, we took as example Pliny, the Elder. Contemporary chroniclers of Gandavo, among others, are Jonathan Lopes, Zurara, Rui de Pina, João de Barros and Damião de Góis.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Background: An increase in blood sugar levels caused diabetes mellitus, and various other health complications. One of the herbal therapy approaches can be used by consuming mahogany seeds which are believed to reduce blood glucose levels. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of consuming mahogany seeds to reduce blood sugar levels. Subjects and Method: This was a quasi-experiment with non-randomized control group pretest-posttest design conducted on March 24-26 2020. A sample of 22 respondents was divided into 2 groups: treatment group and control group selected by purposive sampling. The data was collected by observation. The data was analysed by Paired t-test. Results: The treatment group before consuming the dry extract of Mahogany seeds (Mean= 258.27; SD= 46.98), and after consuming the dry extract of Mahogany seeds (Mean= 185.36; SD= 38.85). In the control group, before consuming the extract of Mahogany seed ekring (Mean= 224.27; SD= 14.73), and after consuming Mahogany seed extract (Mean= 213.27; SD= 6.75). It was statistically significant (p= 0.001). Conclusion: Consumption of dry extract of Mahogany seeds effectively reduces blood sugar levels in patients with Diabetes Mellitus. Consumption of mahogany seeds can be used as a complementary therapy in nursing to reduce blood sugar. Keywords: Consumption of dry extract of Mahogany Seeds, Diabetes Mellitus. Learning to Read in a Local Language in Uganda: Creating Learner Profiles to Track Progress and Guide Instruction Using Early Grade Reading Assessment Results. RTI Press, June 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.3768/rtipress.2021.op.0068.2106.

Abstract:
The Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA) is used to evaluate studies and monitor projects that address reading skills in low- and middle-income countries. Results are often described solely in terms of a passage-reading subtask, thereby overlooking progress in related skills. Using archival data of cohort samples from Uganda at two time points in three languages (Ganda, Lango, and Runyankore-Rukiga), we explored a methodology that uses passage-reading results to create five learner profiles: Nonreader, Beginner, Instructional, Fluent, and Next-Level Ready. We compared learner profiles with results on other subtasks to identify the skills students would need to develop to progress from one profile to another. We then used regression models to determine whether students’ learner profiles were related to their results on the various subtasks. We found membership in four categories. We also found a shift in the distribution of learner profiles from Grade 1 to Grade 4, which is useful for establishing program effectiveness. The distribution of profiles within grades expanded as students progressed through the early elementary grades. We recommend that those who are discussing EGRA results describe students by profiles and by the numbers that shift from one profile to another over time. Doing so would help describe abilities and instructional needs and would show changes in a meaningful way.
