Abstract:
Linear diagrams have been shown to compare favourably to better known forms of set visualization, such as Venn and Euler diagrams, in supporting non-interactive assessment of set relationships. Recent studies that compared several variants of linear diagrams have demonstrated that users perform best at tasks involving identification of intersections, disjointness and subsets when using a horizontally drawn linear diagram with thin lines representing sets and employing vertical lines as guide lines. The essential visual task the user needs to perform in order to interpret this kind of diagram is vertical alignment of parallel lines and detection of overlaps. Space-filling mosaic diagrams which support this same visual task have been used in other applications, such as the visualization of schedules of activities, where they have been shown to be superior to linear Gantt charts. In this article, we present an experimental comparison of linear and mosaic diagrams for visualization of set relationships, in terms of accuracy, time-to-answer and subjective ratings of perceived task difficulty. The findings show that the two visualizations are largely similar with respect to these measures, suggesting that the choice of one or the other may be solely guided by other visual design considerations. Mosaic diagrams might be more suitable, for instance, in cases where miniature diagrams representing overviews of relations in different collections of sets are required, such as in small-multiples displays.

Abstract:
This research is focused on the technology transfer process in the automobile industry using project management tools. The aim of this research is the development of a technology-transfer model using Gantt charts and Critical Path Analysis flow diagrams to achieve a sustainable planning process in the global environment. To achieve this goal, the authors use Gantt charts and Critical Path Analysis flow diagrams. The hypothesis and three research questions are presented, which suggest a relationship between project management tools and the sustainable planning process of technology transfer. During the research, we use the case study of the Korean automobile industry as an excellent example of the technology-transfer process in global markets. A single project of technology transfer is discussed: the technology knowledge transfer from Korean headquarters to a Russian manufacturing subsidiary (Hyundai Motor Corporation). Quantitative data were collected through the open resources of the corporation; the qualitative data were analyzed through a case study and model parameter evaluation. The significant result that the combination of Gantt Charts and Critical Path Analysis flow diagrams methods improves the planning process for technology-transfer projects was found in this survey. It is noticed that (a) it is useful to apply project-management tools for technology transferring models; (b) Gantt Charts and Critical Path Analysis flow diagrams have a sustainable impact on technology transfer projects; and (c) critical paths and operational reserves in network diagrams help to optimize the planning process for technology transfer.

Abstract:
The article considers the issues of presenting the results of simulation experiments with models based on Petri nets for a researcher. The need for a qualitative review of the applied methods for visualizing Petri nets of both the processes themselves and the modeling results has been identified and justified. An analysis of publications on the subject of Petri nets allowed us to conclude that the visualization of such models and the results of their modeling is a known weak point. It is this factor that significantly limits the use of Petri nets as a tool for solving practical problems. The characteristic features of the calendar planning problem and the applied forms of presenting the results of its solution are analyzed. Based on the analysis of literary sources and empirical data, the feasibility of solving the planning problem on the basis of preliminary simulation modeling by Petri nets is substantiated. The method of automatic formation of Gantt diagrams is formalized. The mechanisms for identifying the state of system resources by transitions of the network model are determined. In developing the approach, the attributes and characteristics of its elements already existing in the simulation network model were used to the maximum. An example of using the proposed approach based on the model of a typical robotic technological complex is given. According to the results of the experiment, it was revealed that the software implementation of the described formal rules does not significantly affect the speed of model simulation for the presented robotic system. The proposed approach has the same versatility as the mathematical apparatus used timed Petri nets. This allows us to describe the results of modeling systems and processes of different types, for example, transport or information. An important advantage of the implemented mechanism for the connection of Petri nets and Gantt diagrams is the transfer of the dynamic nature of networks to the process analysis procedures based on diagrams. There is also the possibility of introducing stochastic characteristics of the processes both in the simulation model and in the generated Gantt diagram. The direction of further research on the topic of the article may be the application and corresponding refinement of the obtained formal rules for simulating a network with identification of resources for other classes of Petri nets often used in practice, for example, color Petri nets or E-nets.

Abstract:
Project is any work that has a beginning and ending, consisting of several jobs/activities that must be carried out in a certain order. Contractors typically use the Gantt Chart Method in scheduling home construction projects so that it is difficult to know the impact caused by the late completion of work on scheduling the entire project. The purpose of this study is to determine the time needed to complete two housing units using the Precedence Diagram Method and the Line of Balance Method. The data used in this research are the dependency relationship between activities, time schedule, cost analysis plan (RAB), and SNI unit price analysis. The analysis process carried out in this study is to calculate the time needed to complete two housing units using two methods, namely the Precedence Diagram Method and the Line of Balance method. The results of this study indicate the time needed to build two housing units using the Precedence Diagram Method 7 days faster than using the Line of Balance Method.

Abstract:
In contemporary Project Management literature and practice, it is possible to distinguish two paradigms: the algorithmic-rational paradigm and the relational paradigm. The algorithmic-rational paradigm is characterized by a sequence of programming methodologies that constitute the classic corpus of knowledge on Project Management (WBS, CPM, PERT, Gantt diagrams). Following the diffusion of Agile methods, dissatisfaction with the algorithmic-rational paradigm has spread and a Visual Planning approach, based on the decentralization of planning and control and the abandonment of algorithmic techniques (such as CPM and Gantt diagrams) in favour of simpler, visual and physical tools, has become increasingly established. Visual Planning is the concrete manifestation of a relational project management paradigm. In this work, through an analysis of the key practices characterizing Visual Planning, we have identified the five fundamental principles that define this approach to project management. Then, to structure and guide the choice of a software application that can support Visual Planning, we have (1) identified several features which allow distinguishing one software from another, and (2) created a correlation matrix between the core principles of Visual Planning and the software features. Through this matrix, it is possible to evaluate and measure the adherence of project management software applications to the logic and practices of physical Visual Planning.

Project management skills such as WBS, Gantt Chart and PERT have been applied in many fields, but system analysts preferred UML to project tools. This article recommend transformation rules from project items into objects and project charts into UML diagrams, to model all project items and processes by using UML. Therefore, UML can be applied not only to system analysis and design, but also to entire project processes. Stakeholders in a project can rethink the project in terms of object orientation and communicate with system developers using the same tool as UML.

Abstract:
Low-carbon product design involves a redesign process that requires not only structural module modification, but more importantly, generating innovative principles to solve design contradictions. Such contradictions include when current design conditions cannot satisfy design requirements or there are antithetical design goals. On the other hand, configuration tasks in the reconfiguration process are interdependent, which requires a well-scheduled arrangement to reduce feedback information. This study proposes an effective configuration methodology for low-carbon design. Firstly, configuration tasks and configuration parameters are designated through quality characteristics, and the directed network along with the associated values of configuration tasks are transformed into the design structure matrix to construct the information flow diagram. Then, the Extenics-based problem-solving model is presented to address design contradictions: low-carbon incompatibility and antithetical problems are clarified and formulated with a basic-element model; extensible and conjugate analysis tools are used to identify problematic structures and provide feasible measures; the Gantt chart of measures execution based on the information flow diagram is constructed to reduce feedback and generate robust schemes with strategy models. The methodology is applied to the vacuum pump low-carbon design, the results show that it effectively solves contradictions with innovative design schemes, and comparative analysis verifies the performance of Extenics.

Time Managment: Solution to the problem of double constraintAbstract: Many technicians, in their professional activity, need to control the execution deadline of all the activities or components that make up projects, works, and processes. In an attempt to address that need, and even before the existence of computers, Henry L. Grantt proposed a methodology for the graphic representation of those activities, so as to give an approximate idea of who they each interacted with the others, as well as each of the activities’ impact on the total execution period. Computer science has allowed the creation of various tools that lead to easily and intuitively elaborate Grantt diagrams, and to use the information about each activity’s duration and the relation that exists between the start and end of each activity with the others. The Critical Path analysis allows the classification of activities as critical and non-critical. A delay in execution of the former will result in a delay on the total execution period, whereas non-critical activities function within a margin in such a way that a delay in completion will have little to no impact on the total execution period. Among all of the computing tools in existence on the market for the generation of Grantt diagrams, Microsoft Project is perhaps the most widely used by technicians. It basically requires two inputs: the estimated duration of each of the activities making up a project, and the existing relations between their start and end. Said relations require conditioning through Restraints, the end or start of an activity with the start or end of another. These restraints imply the joining of two activities under the condition that the start or end of one will only occur after a determined period of time from the start or end of the other. Microsoft Project presents the important restriction of not allowing to establish more than one restraint between two activities; meaning, if for instance, the start of one activities is conditioned by the start of another, there will not be any more relations between those two activities, such as the end of said activities, in which case incorrect or hardly comprehensive data may be constructed. The above mentioned restriction is not a minor problem, for if analyzed correctly, when the start of one activity conditions the start of another, which frequently occurs, the ends of both activities will likely also be similarly related. For example, a facade closing evidently cannot be started until part of the structure has been completed, but it is not less true that the closing cannot be finished until after the total execution of the structure. In this article, I will attempt to explain in simple but rigorous manner the fundamental elements of the technical programming of a project. A work methodology will be proposed to ease the work of the technicians, and I will try to offer a solution to the problem of the Double Restraint between activities, which has certainly been making it difficult for the many technicians who use Microsoft Project on a daily basis. Keywords: Time Management, Double Constraint, Critical Path, Critical Constraint, Gantt

<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> The purpose of this contribution is to describe the use of the HBIM method for the management of the restoration building site applied to a historic building in the heart of the historic center of L'Aquila. The construction is located in a densely constructed area and it is characterized by a high spatial complexity with various types of limitations including: small external and internal spaces and interferences due to neighboring construction sites. The proposed method involves a particularly detailed organization of the construction site, simultaneously planning both the development of the working and the safety in order to have more transparency and more control of the information shared among stakeholders. This method consists in planning the Gantt diagram from general to detailed level, according to certain parameters that will be cross-examined and checked regurarly. A screening step has been carried out regarding the current situation, the proceedings to be undertaken and the stakeholders to be included. Thank to this, it has been possible to have automated processes to control not only geometrical interferences but also the ones related to the completion of the work in the interest of enhancing the risk management. Due to a 3D and 4D BIM modelling, there are been found advanced layouts and some timeliners that have allowed a rigourus control of the building process, particularly in the case of precise working and potencial changes that are common in building sites of this type.</p>

Abstract:
CERNBox is the CERN cloud storage hub for more than 25,000 users at CERN. It allows synchronising and sharing files on all major desktop and mobile platforms (Linux, Windows, MacOSX, Android, iOS) providing universal, ubiquitous, online- and offline access to any data stored in the CERN EOS infrastructure. CERNBox also provides integration with other CERN services for big science: visualisation tools, interactive data analysis and real-time collaborative editing. Over the last two years, CERNBox has evolved from a pure cloud sync and share platform into a collaborative service, to support new applications such as DrawIO for diagrams and organigrams sketching, OnlyOffice and Collabora Online for documents editing, and DXHTML Gantt for project management, as alternatives to traditional desktop applications. Moving to open source applications has the advantage to reduce licensing costs and enables easier integration within the CERN infrastructure. This move from commercial software to open source solutions is part of the MALT project, led by the IT department at CERN to reduce the dependencies on commercial solutions. As part of the MALT project, CERNBox is the chosen solution to replace Home directories of the Windows DFS file system. Access to storage from Windows managed devices for end-users is largely covered by synchronization clients. However, online access using standard CIFS/SMB protocol is required for shared use-cases, such as central login services (Terminal Services) and visitor desktop computers. We present recent work to introduce a set of Samba gateways running in High Availability cluster mode to enable direct access to the CERNBox backend storage (EOS).

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is cost optimization of project schedules under constrained resources and alternative production processes (APPs). Design/methodology/approach The model contains a cost objective function, generalized precedence relationship constraints, activity duration and start time constraints, lag/lead time constraints, execution mode (EM) constraints, project duration constraints, working time unit assignment constraints and resource constraints. The mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) superstructure of discrete solutions covers time–cost–resource options related to various EMs for project activities as well as variants for production process implementation. Findings The proposed model provides the exact optimal output data for project management, such as network diagrams, Gantt charts, histograms and S-curves. In contrast to classic scheduling approaches, here the optimal project structure is obtained as a model-endogenous decision. The project planner is thus enabled to achieve optimization of the production process simultaneously with resource-constrained scheduling of activities in discrete time units and at a minimum total cost. Practical implications A set of application examples are addressed on an actual construction project to display the advantages of proposed model. Originality/value The unique value this paper contributes to the body of knowledge reflects through the proposed MINLP model, which is capable of performing the exact cost optimization of production process (where presence and number of activities including their mutual relations are dealt as feasible alternatives, meaning not as fixed parameters) simultaneously with the associated resource-constrained project scheduling, whereby that is achieved within a uniform procedure.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to provide a flexible and extensible model for the classification of suppliers, within the purchasing guidelines and market trends of an Italian small company, leader in the production of street lamps. The model is applied to identify critical supply chains with the final objective of lead-time reduction. Design/methodology/approach The model is obtained by the application of the purchasing portfolio analysis through the construction of Kraljic matrix. Profit impact and supply risk criteria are selected according to the main company requirements, and then prioritized by the analytical hierarchy process (AHP). Finally, supply chain lead-times are analyzed with Gantt diagrams. Findings The application of the model allows the determination of company criticalities in terms of high lead-times and of the involved suppliers. The analysis of critical suppliers positioning in the Kraljic matrix allows the definition of some possible strategies to implement for lead-time reduction. Research limitations/implications Purchasing portfolio analysis and Kraljic matrix are practical instruments to quickly frame company purchasing situation, but their application is not simple due to the numerous and different factors involved, especially in small and medium enterprises (SMEs), where resource are scarce and several constraints limit operations. The objective of the research is the development of a practical tool for strategic purchasing, simple and robust to be implemented in SMEs, with limited resources and access to quantitative supplier data. Originality/value Evaluation criteria definition is one of the most difficult phases, such as their univocal and quantitative comparison. The problem of selecting and prioritizing both quantitative and qualitative criteria for suppliers classification is overcome with the combined application of Kraljic matrix and AHP. The newly integration of the two methodologies allows the realization of a reliable and robust model for suppliers classification, which can be easily adapted to company business strategy changes.

The work is devoted to the research of sources of risks of formation and management of human resources of the company and the development of a project of an information system to minimize the risks of dismissal. Existing approaches to employee incentives and programmatic decisions on the human capital accounting are described. This work analyzes the most famous modern information systems for monitoring and management of personnel. A target tree has been built to address the current problematic situation. Alternative means for the realization of the project of the information system considering the peculiarities of the scope are considered. The hierarchy of the general purpose of choosing the optimal means of implementing the information system for minimizing the risks of personnel management is presented. Using the method of analytical hierarchy, the priorities of alternatives relative to the focus are calculated. The most appropriate project implementation for such a system is to use the WordPress platform. A complex of UML diagrams was developed for the project implementation. The structure of the project in the form of WBS is given. Gantt chart, which shows in detail the schedule of information system design. To track all possible deviations of the project, the critical path of the project is calculated. The prototype information system for minimizing the risks of dismissal of workers runs on an Apache Web Server using MySQL as a database. The design was based on a suite of tools for creating WordPress sites and web applications. The project of the information system implements the policy of identification and management of risks associated with the outflow of valuable employees, describes and allows to regulate the procedure of identification and accounting of employees who are the sole owners of project knowledge. It also defines the sequence of steps that make it impossible to incur the risks associated with the outflow of staff, complicate, and/or slow down the process. The aim of this study was (1) to analyze the planning of labor scheduling and (2) to determine the standard of estimation of item production process. The data were analyzed by using period study and gantt diagram techniques. The results of the study showed that there were 2 standards of estimation, those are fast and low standards. Fast standard needed the work estimation in 444 seconds. However, low standard needed the work estimation in 536 seconds. Therefore, this study was expected to be guidance to arrange the schedule by using gantt diagram.

Abstract:
Business process modeling attracts great importance in enterprises due to the need for a graphically simplified and less verbal way to manage their operations. Nevertheless, the existence of various process modeling standards across the different departments of the same enterprise, such as Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN) diagrams, classic flowcharts, Gantt charts and Petri nets, urges their notation alignment. After the business process model nota-tion alignment, complex constraints and relationships among the enterprise's department processes can be automated and simplified. In the light of the digital transformation of today's enterprises, the main objective of this paper is the proposal of a straightforward and simplified business educational equivalence table so that a direct conversion among BPMN diagrams, flowcharts, Gantt Charts and Petri Nets can be locally fulfilled by non-specialized personnel in each enterprise's department. The methodology of this paper can be generalized in every enterprise where the aforementioned process modeling standards across its different departments coexist.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The article analyses the candied fruit market in Ukraine and describes the main technological operations pertainingto processing of non-traditional candied products – celery and parsnip roots. Darkening of the roots surface caused bythe enzyme oxidation is one of the problems arising when processing white roots, which leads to worse marketable conditionof the product. To prevent darkening, the developed technology provides for soaking raw material in 1% citric acid solutionimmediately after peeling. To improve the diffusion and osmotic processes and to soften roots before boiling in sugar syrup, the steam blanching has been applied. The constructed Gantt diagram proves that the developed technology can shorten thecandied fruit cooking period. The biochemical indicators of the obtained new products have been studied. It was establishedthat the candied fruit possess the appropriate physical and chemical indicators and original organoleptic properties resulting ina demand by consumers. The results of the taste evaluation of the experimental specimen confirmed a high quality of the products.

Abstract:
