Abstract:
Marie de' Medici began the 'jardin du Luxembourg' during her Regency for Louis XIII. As Henry IV's queen, she had clung tenaciously to her Italian family heritage and as her upbringing had close associations with the spectacular 'giardino di Boboli', she was thus inspired to utilize it as the prototype for her Parisian garden. The validation of Marie de' Medici's success lies in the investigation of both gardens to determine the recurring features and to ascertain their precise chronology. Evidence suggests that some replicated features were well known to Marie, the 'Grotta Grande', the original layout and the amphitheatre's general form; while other features, the 'Isolotto' and the amphitheatre's stone seating, were not. These were realized either concurrently or even later than similar features at Luxembourg: a factor overlooked by historians who habitually cite the formative role of Boboli at Luxembourg.

Abstract:
Yuanming Yuan è l’unico giardino Imperiale nella storia cinese, unisce giardini classici cinesi e giardini dell’Italia Rinascimentale e Barocca.

Abstract:
Futurism might have been a literary school among the others, very numerous in the early twentieth century. It becomes, on the contrary, a multidisciplinary and international art movement, based on a frenetic publishing activity and a brand new advertising strategy. Futurism is a dream, an ideal that Marinetti sought to make for thirty-five years, from 1909 until his death. The Futurist movement is a set of trends, and ideas are constantly subject to change due to internal tensions, breakdowns in phases. The merit of Marinetti is to have put together different artists, either by temperament or by personal history, also distant groups according to the geographical point of view or their expressive sensitivity, to create a culture of modernity, specifically Italian, thus playing a fundamental role in the renewal of Italian culture

Abstract:
This Master Thesis work is about the rebirth of a warehouse, once part of Innocenti S.p.A. Located in the district of Lambrate, Milano, the factory used to cover an area of nearly 800.000 sqm back in the Nineties, it nowadays presents itself as a fragmented scenario. This work aims to be a testimony of the past, by first showing all the available official materials that were recovered right before everything shut down. As a second part, it suggests a proposal for one of the most iconic buildings left to a state of complete abandonment and self extinction: the warehouse now known as the Crystal Palace because of its present conditions. Accepting the conditions of one thing and enhancing them in a programmatic way, is probably a solution for dealing with our industrial archaeology, for an innovative, engaging and sustainable approach. An extension of the already existing park finds a new place under the original roof structure. In order to integrate the project in the surrounds from a sociological point of view, the community will be provided with new spaces for exhibition galleries and, moreover, the city of Milano will benefit of the first botanical garden in history.

Abstract:
The thesis studies the impact of new technology on the transmission and promotionof heritage on primary school pupils in order to demonstrate the importance of an alliance between history, visual culture and technology. Two case studies with two distinct types of corpus generated two experiments in situ: ancient architecture in Verona (Italy) and eighteenth-century landscape garden at Hestercombe (Britain). Verona and Hestercombe are two sides of the same patrimonial coin. The cosupervisionwas done under a specialist in digital storytelling of history, Corrado Petrucco (Un. of Padua) and one in eighteenth-century garden and landscape history, Laurent Châtel (Un. of Lille).Mobile Learning began in the 80’s when portable computers (the “in-thing” in those days) where first introduced into the classroom on an experimental basis being a genuine take-off in the late 1990’s thanks to experimental educational programs aimed to explore the didactic potential of PDAs (Personal Digital Assistant). From the mid-’90s to today, three different phases can be pinned down: a tool-focused phase, extra-mural learning, and an emphasis on student mobility. What this study shows is that the teacher’s role is of fundamental importance. The learning process is on-site, situated and enhanced by AR tools and devices (which are equipped with an ‘app’ developed specifically for this project): the ‘app’ is however not intended to replace the guide or the cultural educator, but to be complimentary and to enrich his/her route. In its documents such as “Cultural Heritage Counts for Europe (CHCfE). Towards a European Index for Cultural Heritage" the EU Council of European Ministers recognized heritage as a "strategic resource for a 'sustainable Europe" and a source of benefits – a source of creativity and innovation, generating new solutions to problems. This thesis shows why and how heritage education when augmented via technology improves the interpretation of historic environments and buildings and also makes them accessible to citizens and visitors

Tilly, Georges. Thesis, Normandie, 2020. http://www.theses.fr/2020NORMR084.

Full text
Abstract:
The present thesis studies the last poem written by the humanist Giovanni Pontano (1429-1503) in the latefifteenth century/beginning of the sixteenth century : De hortis Hesperidum, a georgic on citrus gardens. Some descriptive chapters, followed by a more analytical and multidisciplinary study, cast light on thisoverlooked testament of Napolitan humanism. The poem is at first considered through its various readingsover time and in particular through its influence on the literature of European classical age. Then, theversification and the textual history of the poem are assessed and the principles of the current edition areestablished, thanks to a careful examination of its testimonies. Since De hortis Hesperidum is the first moderntext to imitate Vergil’s way of composing didactic poetry, the study deciphers the recreation of the georgicgenre at the begining of the modern period, by considering narrations patterns, digression’s role, the way ofpresenting the dedicatee or the poet himself. De hortis Hesperidum is also a scientific poem that demonstratesan early interest for citrus trees, by establishing their varieties and describing their culture, with an obviousattraction for ornemental gardens that foreteils their popularity in sixteenth century Naples and Italy, foreshadowing the beginnings of manierist gardens. Finally the poem pictures the aristocratical life of thePontanian academy. It gives the aspect of an ideal time, kept safe from the commotion of the Italian wars, thanks to the poet. In addition to this study, the thesis countains the first complete French translation of thetext and a new edition in which spelling has been corrected on the only known manuscript of the poem

Abstract:
The work with foreigners, and in particular with Unaccompanied Foreign Minors, within the Juvenile Justice services, shows greater or otherwise different complexities, compared to taking care of Italian children and / or accompanied foreign minors, which involve a constant challenge of social workers and a challenge in the construction of paths of social integration. The feeling of failure and frustration that emerges in the social workers with respect to the objective difficulties in taking care of children who are often "invisible" as they are undocumented, with different alias and extremely vulnerable due to their young age, the traumas suffered and the loneliness experienced, is sometimes compensated by successful integration paths, often built on the basis of the "creativity of the social worker", where with a significant adhesion of the minor and a valid network work, it is possible to build innovative and lasting projects. These reflections led the PhD student to start the research work starting from the voice of Unaccompanied Foreign Minors (from now on UAMs) or former UAMs, of the voluntary guardians who have in charge of them and of the social workers of the Juvenile Social Service Office themselves, which allowed the structuring of three parallel and autonomous researches, each with food for thought and enriching operating methods. The thesis work developed starting from theoretical and methodological insights, but also from the practical knowledge of the social service in which the PhD student has been working for over twenty years, which has fostered a critical reflection on the realities explored. The PHD thesis consists of six parts. The first chapter wants to give a historical-institutional framework on the birth of Juvenile Justice in Italy, on its organization and services, also in reference to the work with UAMs. Particular attention is given to the establishment of the Juvenile Court, a body for the protection of minors par excellence. Furthermore, the Juvenile Criminal Procedure is investigated with its guarantees and safeguards against the minor who is seen at the center of the process, co-author of his social reintegration path. Finally, space is given to the Juvenile Justice services, with particular regard to the Social Service Offices for Minors (USSM), which have the competence in every state and degree of the procedure against minors entering the circuit. criminal, but specifically in the external area. The second chapter presents a theoretical framework on UAMs in Europe and in Italy, on their migratory path and on psychological studies related to their condition of vulnerability, marginalization and loneliness. Attention is paid to entering the criminal circuit and taking charge by the Juvenile Justice services, a condition that can lead the minor to build a path of life capable of allowing him autonomy and inclusion. Within this theoretical framework, the first study involving UAMs or former UAMs in charge of the USSM is developed, through the implementation of semi-structured interviews. The third chapter explores from the theoretical point of view the role of voluntary guardians in Europe and in Italy with respect to taking charge of UAMs. Specifically in Italy, the Guarantor Authority for Childhood and Adolescence carries out periodic monitoring of the progress of voluntary protection, in order to create an efficient system of the same. The figure of the voluntary gardian is then framed from a legislative and research point of view, creating the basis for the realization of the second study which focuses on the voluntary guardians who follow UAM who have entered the criminal circuit. The fourth chapter focuses on the social service of the USSM, on the skills of social workers in favor of minors entering the criminal circuit. The work that is carried out with UAMs entering the criminal circuit is specifically analyzed, highlighting the extreme vulnerability and fragility of these minors, who require greater attention to their needs and problems and a redefinition of the aid path to be carried out together, for an adequate escape from the penal circuit. The present study was carried out in collaboration with several Italian USSM that have favored an in-depth study on the taking in charge of UAMs in this specific sector.

Cangiano, Domenico. "Wanderers in Contradiction. The Italian Road to Modernism (1903-1922)." Diss., 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/10161/11325.

Full text
Abstract:

My dissertation, Wanderers in Contradiction. The Italian Road to Modernism (1903-1922), analyzes how a generation of intellectuals approach the cultural revolution brought by Modernism. In Chapter One, dedicated to Pirandello’s essay On Humor, modernist themes, such as the perception of life as an unstoppable and unrepresentable flux, are examined in the Italian work that best represents them in the context of nineteenth-century ‘negative thought.’ Chapter Two, which is devoted to the writings of Giovanni Papini and Giuseppe Prezzolini, and Chapter Three, in which I focus on the work of Ardengo Soffici and Aldo Palazzeschi, analyze the ‘positive’ response to Modernism. These intellectuals highlighted how the cultural crisis was an opportunity to reject dangerous forms of essentialism, and opened the way for a new form of art committed to the representation of contingency. Conversely, Chapter Four, which deals with Giovanni Boine and Piero Jahier, and Chapter Five, on Scipio Slataper and Carlo Michelstaedter, illustrate the ‘negative’ reaction to the modernist crisis of values. These authors, who abandoned a purely epistemological perspective in favor of a religious or ethical one, manifest an anti-modernist thread within Modernism itself. Therefore, my research contributes to three different general areas of scholarship: literature, philosophy, and history. Broadly speaking, it advances the understanding of Italian culture and the way Italian intellectuals participate in and are influenced by European interactions. It also engages with philosophical debates concerning the crisis of metaphysical Foundations, including the role of Italian writers in this process.
