Abstract:
This study aimed to use a computer-controlled touchscreen system to examine visual discrimination in Garrano horses (Equus caballus), an endangered breed of pony belonging to the Iberian horse family. This pilot study focused on the perceptual similarity among letters of the alphabet. We tested five horses in a one-male unit (OMU) living permanently in a semi-free enclosure near their natural habitat in Serra d’Arga, northern Portugal. Horses were trained to nose-touch black circles that appeared on the screen. Then, they were tested for discrimination of five letters of the Latin alphabet in

A sample of 35 upper cheek series belonging to <em>Garrano</em> (n=30) and <em>Galego</em> (n=5) specimens were studied in order to describe pli caballin (caballine fold). Occlusal aspects presented much cement and they were moderately complex, and pli was absent in more than half of studied M1 and M2 (56.5% and 57.9% respectively). Moreover, most, but not all premolars presented pli (80.8%, 77.8% and 67.9% for pM1, pM2, pM3 respectively). So, the presence of pli caballin is not an absolute descriptor of <em>Equus caballus</em> for isolate

Abstract:
This study aims to examine the genetic structure and diversity levels of seven indigenous Greek horse breeds: Andravida, Pindos, Thessaly, Skyros, Penia, Messara and Rodos, using 15 microsatellites. Phenotypic traits were combined with factorial correspondence analyses to create two datasets: one “Baseline” containing typical samples, and one “Unknown” with non-typical or of disputed origin samples. In the Greek “Baseline” horses, 142 alleles were found. The mean observed and effective number of alleles, the polymorphism information content and the allelic richness were 6.75, 4.14, 0.63 and 5.

Abstract Motivation: Tumors of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients are heterogeneous entities. Genomic landscapes are influenced by genetic constitution, environmental exposures and the complex interaction between the two. In particular, it has been reported that germline variability specific to Latin American (LA) populations play an important role modulating the presence of acquired somatic alterations in EGFR and KRAS, two of the most clinically relevant actionable genes for lung cancer (LC). The influence of these specific genetic differences appears to be independent of smoking st

Abstract Introduction: T cell activation is critical in the initiation and potentiation of anti-tumor immune responses. Hematopoietic Progenitor Kinase 1 (HPK1/MAP4K1) is a member of the MAP4K family whose activity has been demonstrated to restrain T cell activation through phosphorylation of SLP-76 at Serine 376 leading to TCR disassembly. Mediators generated in the tumor microenvironment (TME) such as adenosine, PGE2 and TGFβ can dampen T cell activity and present a significant barrier to cancer therapy. HPK1 inhibition may allow for enhanced T cell activation under such suppressive conditio

This dissertation is a regional study of Mexico during the reform phase of the Mexican Revolution. It analyzes the relationship between governing authorities and civil society in the southeastern state of Tabasco during the lengthy tenure of revolutionary strongman Tomás Garrido Canabal (1922–1935). Using a variety of previously untapped sources, this dissertation evaluates popular reactions to the governing mechanisms and cultural radicalism of the garridistas.
