This paper presents a boiler efficiency analysis of a 220MW steam power plant using the direct method. The procedure employed to determine the boiler efficiency was done using the input-output method based on ASME PTC 4.1 standard. The experimental data used for the analysis were obtained from boilers installed in Egbin Thermal Power Plant located at Ikorodu, Lagos, Nigeria. Instantaneous data on boiler thermal efficiency can determine the condition of boiler operation, heat generation, and heat loss. It was established that boilers#-1, 2, 4, 5, and 6 have 72.51%, 67.66%, 69.50%, 78.16%, and 7

A boiler is a pressurized vessel utilized for the production of high-temperature steam. An often-encountered problem in boiler systems is the inefficiency of the working system, especially in fire tube boilers where heat loss occurs in the steam and fuel systems, leading to a decrease in efficiency. Hence, it is imperative to compute the efficiency of fire tube boilers in order to comply with efficiency regulations in operational procedures in the field. This study utilizes indirect methods to calculate efficiency. The calculation results indicate that the boiler efficiency, determined using t

A thermal energy is one of the most significant sources of environmental impact. This is a consequence of both the use of mostly non-renewable natural resources and environmental pollution from thermal power plants. The intensity of this impact depends on many factors, namely the purpose, power, type of fuel used and operating mode. Existing studies have established links between emissions and characteristics such as power and fuel type for stationary operating conditions. At the same time, changes in operating conditions have a significant impact on environmental and economic characteristics.

A boiler is a complex and critical piece of equipment and its reliability is crucial to the entire plants operation. Several components of boiler play a major role in contributing to its reliability and performance. Of these, boiler tubes are considered, the most vulnerable component to corrosion in steam generating units. Abstract The observation of corrosion on interior tube side of depropaniser Reboiler, stabilizer Reboiler, low pressure, high pressure steam condenser, air cooler, steam drum and pipe of boiler during gas refinery plant shut down, leads to have a survey of steam loop condition. Borescopic inspection images in boiler, depropaniser Reboiler and air cooler tube were the same, so it can be concluded that the corrosion mechanism probably is the same. Since observed pitting on tubes reveals sign of oxygen corrosion, the oxygen concentration of generated steam and condensate steam were investigated.

Abstract Waste-to-energy plants experienced boiler tube failures when the design changed from waste-heat boilers to radiant furnace waterwalls with superheat, adopted from coal-firing technology. The fireside attack by chlorine and sulfur compounds in the refuse combustion products caused many forced outages in early European plants with high steam temperatures and pressures. In spite of conservative steam conditions in the first U.S. plants, some failures occurred. As steam temperatures increased in later U.S. plants, corrosion problems multiplied. Over the years these problems have been alle

Abstract The waste gas streams from Upgrading processes pass as primary energy sources to two CO boilers. As Upgrading feedrates have increased, the volume flowrate, and properties of the streams have changed to such extent that the boilers have suffered severe reliability problems due to the new, and adverse fireside conditions. Heat flux rates have increased in critical sections of the boiler with consequent disruption in thermal hydraulic flow in water and steam circuits. Departure from nucleate boiling (DNB) and steam blanketing in generating bank tubes have resulted, causing treatment che

Abstract This study provides an extensive analysis of the limitations for the old generation of water and steam cycle chemistry used in boiler water treatment, using a case study of an operational gas plant running since 1977. Key failures observed included hydrogen damage (HD), high temperature stress rupture, and acid phosphate corrosion, all attributable to heavy deposits resulting from outdated boiler water chemical control program. These failures impact process production, boiler performance, and safety, prompting the need for improved treatment options. The paper recommends transitioning

Abstract:
Abstract Power generation from coal using Advanced-Ultra Supercritical (A-USC) steam conditions will result in further improvement of fuel efficiency and decreased greenhouse gas emissions. The steamside oxidation resistance of the candidate alloys for an A-USC application is an important consideration in selecting an alloy for superheater and reheater tubing, the header and transfer piping. The concern is that steamside oxidation could potentially lead to wall loss compromising structural integrity as well as act as an insulating barrier to heat transfer. Moreover, loose scales can also lead
