Abstract:
The laryngeal mask airway, the LMA® Gastro™ (Teleflex Medical, Athlone, Ireland), is a novel airway device which permits upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy to be performed via a dedicated large calibre oesophageal lumen. It has been validated in adult studies, but to our knowledge, there have been no data published regarding its use in a paediatric population. Following a brief education programme, the LMA Gastro was introduced on a trial basis at our institution and made freely available. Over a four-month period, our pre-existing endoscopy audit framework captured data on a total of 55 pa

In a prospective study a barium examination combined with food stimulation was compared with the acid reflux test in 30 consecutive patients with symptoms of gastro-oesophageal reflux. Both methods were further compared with endoscopy and histology. Gastro-oesophageal reflux could be demonstrated by the radiologic examination in 22 patients and by the acid reflux test in 23 patients. By combining the two methods gastro-oesophageal reflux could be demonstrated in 27 patients. Comparing the two methods with symptoms, endoscopy, and histology they seemed to be of equal value. Helicobacter Pylori a very common worldwide infection is responsible for number of upper GIT lesions like gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, gastric carcinoma and mucosa associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma. On the other hand, dyspepsia is a wide spectrum of nonspecific upper GIT symptoms for which patients very frequently visit gastroenterology clinics. The objective of the study was to find prevalence of Helicobacter Pylori among the patients with dyspeptic symptoms who had gastro-duodenal mucosal lesions on upper GIT endoscopy and also if there is any association between these two variables. 1

Abstract:
Operative endoscopy has proven to be a discipline that continually renews itself. Referrals for treatment using flexible endoscopes in the gastroenteric tract are in fact on the rise. Diagnoses made at earlier phases of the disease uncover pre cancerous lesions that can be treated locally. The technological development of endoscopic instruments, on the other, make it possible to enter into the abdominal cavity and to go beyond the intestinal lumen and to carry out mini-invasive surgical procedures. Operative endoscopy must, of course, confront and collaborate with other traditional discipline

This thesis investigated and examined the frequency and associations of post endoscopy gastro-intestinal cancers. Oesophagogastroduodenoscopy (OGD) and colonoscopy are the investigation of choice for diagnosing upper gastrointestinal cancers (UGIC) and colorectal cancers (CRC) respectively. Evidence suggests there are a proportion of patients who have had negative OGD or colonoscopy examinations prior to their later UGIC or CRC diagnosis. These events are commonly termed post-OGD upper gastrointestinal cancers (POUGIC) and post colonoscopy colorectal cancers (PCCRC). This body of work utilised
