Gastrointestinal microsporidiosis is a major cause of chronic diarrhea in people with acquired immune deficienc syndrome. However, it can also affect individuals with inherited or congenital immunodeficiency. We reported a case of intestinal microsporidiosis and salmonellosis in a young boy with Hyper IgM syndrome. He presented with severe diarrhea and fever for 5 days. Stool examination showed heavy infection of Microsporidia spp. PCR confirmed the species as Enterocytozoon bieneusi. He was treated with albendazole for 25 days which abated the symptoms. To our knowledge, this is the first rep

One of the most common foodborne illnesses in the world, bovine salmonellosis is an infectious zoonotic disease that affects both humans and animals. This essay reviewed the most recent epidemiology and public health information on bovine salmonellosis. It is brought on by S. typhimurium and Dublin species, which are the aetiological agents of diarrhoeal and systemic infections in humans. These species are most frequently found as secondary contaminants in food derived from animals and the environment, usually as a result of subclinical infection in food animals leading to contamination of mea

The vast majority (72.4%) of the salmonellosis foodborne outbreaks reported in EU in 2019 were caused by Salmonella Enteritidis, even if their total number due to this serovar decreased. In spring 2020, a foodborne outbreak of S. Enteritidis occurred in the Marche region (Central Italy), involving 85 people. ABSTRACT Infection of poultry with Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium poses a significant risk to public health through contamination of meat from infected animals. Vaccination has been proposed to control infections in chickens. However, the vaccines are currently largely empirical, and our understanding of the mechanisms that underpin immune clearance and protection in avian salmonellosis is not complete. In this study we describe the cytokine, chemokine, and antibody responses and cellular changes in primary and secondary infections of chickens with Salmonella serovar Typhimurium. Infe

Objectives The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) identified an outbreak of Salmonella serotype Javiana infections in Virginia after a chili and chowder cook-off with 11 competitors and about 2500 attendees on September 30, 2017. The objectives of this study were to assess the extent of the outbreak and identify the most likely source of exposure. Methods To identify people with suspected Salmonella infection, VDH used press releases and social media posts to recruit event attendees to take an online survey about foods eaten at the cook-off and any gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms experienced.
