This study concerns the reproductive and larval ecology of the nudibranch Adalaria proxima. Attainment of competence is demonstrated to be cue specific. Embryos metamorphose in response to choline, yet remain precompetent to elevated potassium and the natural cue until after hatching. A taxonomic revision of 29 species distributed in 12 vetigastropod families collected in a 60-260 m depth range at Canopus Bank, a seamount off NE Brazil, is performed based on detailed shell morphology. Intertidal grazing gastropods play an important role in structuring rocky shore communities. For many years the main food resource to these animals was considered to be epilithic biofilms. The columellar muscle of both limpets and coiled shell gastropods is of the paramyosin smooth type. Collagen forms an integral part of the musculature constituting about 35% of the tissue. In limpets, muscle organisation is typical of a muscular hydrostat. Tightly packed blocks of muscle, dense arrays of cross-linked collagen, large muscle cells (9 µm diameter) and thick filaments (70 nm diameter, 30 µm long) produce a tough, relatively rigid but powerful muscle. Abstract:

Neste trabalho se realiza uma análise cladística da família Marginellidae. Para tanto foram estudadas 18 espécies, pertencentes a família, e quatro, pertencentes a superfamília Muricoidea, como grupo externo. Através da dissecção e análise morfológica comparativa, foram levantados 93 caracteres, sendo 12 coquiliológicos e 81 da morfologia das partes moles. A análise da matriz resultou em 4 árvores igualmente parcimoniosas (237 passos, IC: 0,55, IR: 0,79). Foi feita, então, uma análise de ponderação sucessiva na qual foram obtidas 3 árvores igualmente parcimoniosas (982 passos, IC: 0,75, IR: 0
