In this study, we developed a wireless heat variation detection system that can measure the temperature difference between the molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) and magnetic contactor (MC) of the motor control center (MCC), collect data, and monitor the heat variation of the MCC connection. Thus far, we have developed a temperature controller and applied a multi-communication technique based on Bluetooth Low Energy between the repeater and temperature controller between the MCCB and MC. Furthermore, we designed the measured temperature data to be transmitted to the cloud server via a gateway.

The goal of gateway nodes is to aggregate, process and send the data to other gateways or directly to sink nodes. The proper placement of nodes is needed to provide good network operation. With the development of smart grid technology, residents can schedule their power consumption pattern in their home to minimize electricity expense, reducing peak-to-average ratio (PAR) and peak load demand. The two-way flow of information between electric utilities and consumers in smart grid opened new areas of applications. In this chapter, the general architectures of the home energy management systems (HEMS) are introduced in a home area network (HAN) based on the smart grid scenario. Efficient scheduling methods for home power usage are discussed. The energy management controller (EMC) receives the demand response (DR) information indicating the Time-of use electricity price (TOUP) through the home gateway (HG). With the DR signal, the EMC achieves an optimal power scheduling scheme that can be delivered to each electric appliance by the HG.

This chapter explains the role of the French in the weirdness of English. In 1066, William the Conqueror, the Duke of Normandy, came over from France to defeat the English king and claim the throne. For the next few hundred years, England was controlled by French speakers. But the majority of people in England, those who did not rule, preach, study, or own land, did not become French speakers. Nevertheless, the ruling language managed to mix its way in. Because they controlled all official institutions, the vocabulary of government, law, and land administration came to be overwhelmingly rooted in Norman influence. Ultimately, the French transformed the vocabulary of English not just by introducing French words in almost every aspect of life, but also by providing an easy gateway to Latin borrowing and word creation. The French also introduced new word stress patterns that created confusion and splits based on stress alone, and left behind old word forms and phrase ordering. It even encouraged the development of a new English speech sound with its own letter, v.

Abstract:
Topic: Driver Assistance Technology is emerging as new driving technology popularly known as ADAS. It is supported with Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Brake, blind spot monitoring, lane change assistance, and forward collision warnings etc. It is an important platform to integrate these multiple applications by using data from multifunction sensors, cameras, radars, lidars etc. and send command to plural actuators, engine, brake, steering etc. ADAS technology can detect some objects, do basic classification, alert the driver of hazardous road conditions, and in some cases, slow or stop the vehicle. The architecture of the electronic control units (ECUs) is responsible for executing advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) in vehicle which is changing as per its response during the process of driving. Automotive system architecture integrates multiple applications into ADAS ECUs that serve multiple sensors for their functions. Hardware architecture of ADAS and autonomous driving, includes automotive Ethernet, TSN, Ethernet switch and gateway, and domain controller while Software architecture of ADAS and autonomous driving, including AUTOSAR Classic and Adaptive, ROS 2.0 and QNX. Abstract:
The introduction of deregulation in IDD service with effect from January 1999 triggered a round of extremely fierce competition in Hong Kong’s IDD market. In response, both the incumbent operator and the new entrants had to adopt aggressive strategies to defend or gain market share. This chapter reports on an intensive experiment of the quality of IDD services provided by the major IDD operators in Hong Kong. An innovative research methodology was designed and 240 members of the public participated in the controlled experiment. Based on 1,790 successful IDD calls to the 10 most popular destinations from Hong Kong, the IDD quality of the major operators was benchmarked. To the best of our knowledge, this was the first large-scale experiment of its kind that had ever been conducted. The experiment revealed some interesting findings. First, the monopoly control of the international gateway by the incumbent operator puts pressure on the other IDD operators to devise an appropriate strategy balancing tariffs against the quality of the IDD line. Second, when competition becomes mature, all IDD operators must place more emphasis on quality. Finally, the full benefits of quality improvement in telecommunications service in a specific region are also subject to the level of development of telecommunications infrastructure in its counterpart economies.

Abstract:
ZigBee is based on IEEE 802.15.4 which specifies the physical layer and medium access control (MAC) for low-cost and low-power LR-WPAN. The technology can be applied in intelligent key, A/C operation and steering wheel inside vehicles. There are two types of devices in ZigBee, FFD and RFD. A FFD can communicate with RFDs and other FFDs, while a RFD can only communicate with a FFD. In ZigBee physical layer, it follows IEEE 802.15.4 standard and operates in unlicensed RF worldwide (2.4GHz global, 915MHz Americas or 868 MHz Europe). A superframe contained an active portion and an inactive portion is used in the MAC layer of ZigBee. The active portion includes CAP and CFP. In the inactive partition, the coordinator can enter sleep mode to save its power. Three main topologies of ZigBee are star, mesh, and tree. However, ZigBee is successfully produced into a low-cost controller applied for automotive applications, including vehicle control and status monitoring. According to the forecast of ON World in 2005 (ON WORLD, 2009), the deployed wireless sensing network nodes will increase to 127 million in 2010 from 1.2 million in 2005. It can be applied in home automation, battlefield surveillance, health care applications and vehicular environments. A wireless sensor network (WSN) constitutes a lot of wireless sensing nodes. In addition, a node in WSN consists of one or more sensors, a radio transceiver, and a microcontroller. The sensor can be used for sensing temperature, pressure, sound, vibration, motion or position, etc. to collect status from devices or environments. The transceiver is used to relay the information of the collected status computed by the microcontroller to a center node, called a gateway or sink. Therefore, a WSN belongs to one type of wireless ad-hoc networks. However, the nodes in a WSN are usually smaller than that in traditional wireless ad-hoc networks regarding node size, computing power, memory size, and transmission rage. In other words, the transmission ability, computing power, and memory size of WSN nodes are limited.
