This research is a qualitative and exploratory, held in a public university in the state of Bahia, aiming at knowing the vision of (the) students on the school's relationship with gays families, and specific, we define: Identify contributions of the course, focused on teaching practice in dealing with gays families; Check if these were provided (s) students curriculum components that addressed the subject in question if there was access to documents produced on issues pertaining to the topic under study and present the opinion of (the) students, aimed at contributing to the Degree Course in relation to subsidize the training to deal with gays families in professional practice. Participants were five students’ graduates (the), Course of Pedagogy having as conditions for such participation, are graduates of the Bachelor of Education at 2011.1, women and men aged between 20 and 50 years. For both the data collection was based on semi-structured interviews through a script, the first part containing data on the characterization of the sample and the second, questions based on the research objectives. Data were analyzed considering the technique of content analysis, in which categories and subcategories, analyzed in the study and through which it was possible to present their results. With regard to the vision of (the) students on the relationship between school and gays families, stood out in the statements, the existence of prejudice veiled or explicit school. We also found that the course and outcome in question did not contribute to professional practice in dealing with gays families in school therefore do not address the issue during the discussion of teacher education, with a kind of "denial" of this approach by stealth theme. The superficiality of the approach of the documents dealing with the issue was markedly during declared by (the) students. In testimony presented as suggestions to help with the course in order to equip (the) students for professional practice, with regard to preparation for dealing with gays families the school (the) trainees (the) reported the inclusion of components curricular activities that address the issue of homoparenthood, highlighting the complexity of the issue and requires interfacing with different fields of knowledge. We emphasize that although (the) students participating in this study have stated that the course offered little support in their professional practice, are already teaching, and as such, represent a portion of the school, which may indicate real changes in their attitudes in dealing with the diversity and, in particular, same-sex relationships with gays families. Thus, the understanding cannot be exhausted this subject, given the dynamics of science and society in constant change, we hope to raise discussion and reflection that can help fuel further research.

Abstract:
This thesis tries to show, in an exploratory way, how homoparental families in Lima manage to be constituted in an environment that does not acknowledge them, in the absence of legal protection and exposed to attitudes that reveal little tolerance towards homosexuals .We conducted in-depth interviews with 9 adult members of 7 homoparental families, 6 of them headed by lesbians and 1 headed by gay men. One of the main results is that homosexual couples incorporate the constitution of a family in their personal life planning and at the same time they recreate it, objecting biology as the only foundation of kinship. With the elimination of the sexual division of work at home, the arrangement of housework and parenting is based on personal preferences and dialogue. However, ancient roles are not entirely abandoned in family constellations when an external agent – the biological father – gets involved in child-rearing, as well as in the updating of different styles of raising children depending if the family is headed by lesbians or gay men. On the institutional level it is observed that families operate under different codes than health centers and schools in issues related to the family, and bridges should be established to achieve communication.

Kruger, Liana. "Resilience in gay and lesbian parent families." Thesis, University of Pretoria, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/2263/52938.

Abstract:
Research on the experiences of children raised in gay/lesbian parent families (GPLFs) has shown that the children often feel exposed and/or threatened by the societal heteronormativity they are faced with (Lubbe, 2007; Lubbe & Kruger, 2012). It has also been found that GPLFs often have to work hard and diligently to create a comfortable familiarity, or sense of belonging, within the society in which they live in (Breshears, 2011). Nevertheless, these findings do not disprove GPLFs assertions that they are happy and are functioning effectively in society. Many psychological and sociological family studies have either ignored the family s bonding with society or dealt with it only in general terms (Cigoli & Scabini, 2006), while there is also scant literature in this regard relating to modern-day society, especially to South African populations and GLPFs specifically. The aim of this study was to explore the protective factors that facilitate resilience in South African GPLFs living in a predominantly heteronormative society. On the assumption that GPLFs experience challenges relating to living in a heteronormative society, the objective was to understand how (and if) the families interactions with society influence each other reciprocally. This study was embedded in a qualitative research approach and was guided by an intrinsic case study design. Accordingly, the lives of ten families were explored, using unstructured interviews, electronic interviews, visuals and other supportive data. In order to construct a resilience framework that highlights the factors that promote resilience in GLPFs, thematic content analysis and a thematic infusion process were conducted against a background of bio-ecological systems theory. The results indicate that there are both risk and protective factors on the micro-, meso-, exo-, and macro-systemic levels. Subsequently, a resilience wheel was drafted using the protective factors as a framework against which resilience in South African GLPFs can be interpreted and understood. The following protective factors were identified as promoting resilience: ? Micro level. Participants reflected a strong sense of self-determination in their personal ok-ness and intentional out-ness. They built resilience through avoidance, disclosure and personal beliefs. Meso level. Participants reflected a strong sense of family coherence, which was seen in the relationship among the family members and the subsequent family identity. They built resilience through open and honest communication styles, as well as preparational, recreational and bonding rituals. ? Exo level. Participants reflected a strong sense of belonging which was seen in the complexity of their social identity. They built resilience through their relationships with health care services and the school, their occupational profile and the support of extended family members. ? Macro level. Participants reflected a strong awareness of society s limited exposure to GLPFs and therefore experienced a constant awareness of difference. However, they were also aware that they were being supported by the Constitution in developing resilience, because if it were not for their difference , GLPFs would not have had protective laws in place to guide their negotiations with society in a non-discriminatory manner. ? Chrono level. Participants reflected the hope that unbiased treatment would be available to them in the future, accordingly, building resilience on their belief in social justice. Such social justice would be reflected the transformation of a heteronormative-family discourse in society to one that accommodates diversity in family structure. In summary, this study sheds light on GLPFs by expanding knowledge on the issue of their resilience, taking into account the broader political and social issues. The knowledge generated by this study can further be applied to contexts in which studies are conducted on diverse and minority family forms in society.

Abstract:
The paper gives a basic description of the stratified charge combustion process in the Stratified Charge Omnivorous Rotary Engine - SCORE. The inherent advantages of the Wankel geometry combined with spark ignition of a stratified mixture for a unique combustion cycle are explained with diagrams. The discussion points out why the engine is neither octane or cetane sensitive, making it a truly multifuel (omnivorous) intermittent combustion engine. A brief description of the parts and their function help to explain the inherent compactness of the engine and confirm its simplicity and efficiency. The engine specific size, weight, air flow and fuel flow are compared to an equivalent output turbine engine to place the performance in a familiar context. A most impressive feature of the engine, attractive cost of production, is demonstrated by the modular nature of its design. This feature is amplified by an in-depth description of the “Family of Engines” concept, highlighting the large number of common parts in a family of one to six rotor models. The ability to cover a complete market segment with one geometry is attractive for production costs, service, training and logistics. Modular design also enhances application flexibility. Development programs are underway for a diversity of applications for families of SCORE engines. Each application utilizes the unique characteristics available with this engine and is further justified by the economies realized in volume production. Thus low volume, high power applications (1000kW and up) can realize savings by utilizing the same major parts tooled for higher volume use in smaller engines. Some potential applications are discussed with particular emphasis on marine installations. Specific comparisons with other powerplants for shipboard electrical generation are presented.

Abstract:
Deere & Co. has actively pursued development of the multifuel Wankel-type stratified charge engine since February 1984. During this period, a new R&D facility has been established where development is in progress for three new engine families having basic displacements of .66, 1.72 and 5.8 liters/rotor, for a 1 to 8 rotor engine output range from 37 to 2250kW (50 to 3000HP). The initial SCORE™ (“Stratified Charge Omniverous Rotary Engines”) production engines will be placed into service next year. This series of three engine families offers the size, weight and low vibration characteristics of small gas turbines and the fuel efficiency and initial cost characteristics of diesel engines. This paper describes the combustion concept, relates relevant history and gives the current development status for all three basic sizes.

Abstract:
Making use of functional variations with variable domain and natural boundary conditions, this paper presents a unified theory of various hybrid problems (being a unification as well as a generalization of direct- & inverse problems) for 3-D incompressible potential flow in a rotor-blading. Three families of variational principles (VPs) have been established and provide a series of new rational ways for blade design and a sound theoretical basis for the finite element method (FEM). This theory can be extended to compressible and rotational flows and also constitutes an important part of the optimum design theory of bladings (8).

Liu, Gao-Lian, and Shan Yan. "A Unified Variable-Domain Variational Approach to Hybrid Problems of Compressible Blade-to-Blade Flow." In ASME 1991 International Gas Turbine and Aeroengine Congress and Exposition. American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 1991. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/91-gt-169.

Full text
Abstract:
A unified theory of various hybrid problems for blade-to-blade compressible flow is developed herein via the functional variation with variable domain. Two variational principle (VP) families for three typical hybrid problems are derived, following a systematic approach (Liu, 1990a). Full advantage is taken of the natural boundary condition and suction/blowing along the blade surface are accommodated. This theory is aimed at offering a new theoretical basis for the finite element method (FEM) and various ways for blade design and/or modification, and it also constitutes an important part of optimal cascade theory (Liu,1987b). Based on these VPs, a new FEM with self-adjusting nodes is also suggested, and the numerical tests yield good results.

Abstract:
The USDA Northern Forests Climate Hub (NFCH) and the Forest-Climate Working Group (FCWG) held a series of two workshops designed to identify specific opportunities within USDA programs to explicitly support greenhouse gas mitigation in the forest sector. The first workshop (Perspectives from the Field) gathered suggestions and ideas from field practitioners familiar with using USDA programs to support forest carbon benefits. The second workshop (Finding USDA Programmatic GHG Mitigation Opportunities) invited USDA Program leads and representatives to develop specific suggestions on modifications to USDA Programs that could assist in these efforts. The final outcome was a series of twelve ideas from USDA Program leads and representatives that took into account input from the field, and outlined specific needs for each idea. These twelve are listed below and summarized more completely in the Workshop summary section description.

Abstract:
In 2019, the Gambling Commission announced a National Strategy to Reduce Gambling Harms. Underlying the strategy is the Framework of Harms, outlined in Measuring gambling-related harms: A framework for action. "The Framework" adopts a public health approach to address gambling-related harm in Great Britain across multiple levels of measurement. It comprises three primary factors and nine related subfactors. To advance the National Strategy, all componentsneed to be supported by a strong evidence base. This report examines existing research expertise relevant to the Framework amongacademics based in the UK. The aim is to understand the extent to which the Framework factors and subfactors have been studied in order to identify gaps in expertise and provide evidence for decision making thatisrelevant to gambling harms research priorities. A social network analysis identified coauthor networks and alignment of research output with the Framework. The search strategy was limited to peer-reviewed items and covered the 12-year period from 2008 to 2019. Articles were selected using a Web of Science search. Of the 1417 records identified in the search, the dataset was refined to include only those articles that could be assigned to at least one Framework factor (n = 279). The primary factors and subfactors are: Resources:Work and Employment, Money and Debt, Crime;Relationships:Partners, Families and Friends, Community; and Health:Physical Health, Psychological Distress, and Mental Health. We used Gephi software to create visualisations reflecting degree centrality (number of coauthor networks) so that each factor and subfactor could be assessed for the density of research expertise and patterns of collaboration among coauthors. The findings show considerable variation by framework factor in the number of authors and collaborations, suggesting a need to develop additional research capacity to address under-researched areas. The Health factor subcategory of Mental Health comprised almost three-quarters of all citations, with the Resources factor subcategory of Money and Debt a distant second at 12% of all articles. The Relationships factor, comprised of two subfactors, accounted for less than 10%of total articles. Network density varied too. Although there were few collaborative networks in subfactors such as Community or Work and Employment, all Health subfactors showed strong levels of collaboration. Further, some subfactors with a limited number of researchers such as Partners, Families, and Friends and Money and debt had several active collaborations. Some researchers’ had publications that spanned multiple Framework factors. These multiple-factor researchers usually had a wide range of coauthors when compared to those who specialised (with the exception of Mental Health).Others’ collaborations spanned subfactors within a factor area. This was especially notable forHealth. The visualisations suggest that gambling harms research expertise in the UK has considerable room to grow in order to supporta more comprehensive, locally contextualised evidence base for the Framework. To do so, priority harms and funding opportunities will need further consideration. This will require multi-sector and multidisciplinary collaboration consistent with the public health approach underlying the Framework. Future research related to the present analysis will explore the geographic distribution of research activity within the UK, and research collaborations with harms experts internationally.
