The principal goal is to determine minimal hob idle distance required for complete generation of the gear teeth. This task is of importance in two aspects: to cut hobbing time and to reduce axial size of a hobbed cluster gear, gear with shoulder etc. The necessity of cutting hobbing time is evident. Reduction of axial size of a hobbed gear cluster leads to reduction of size and weight of the gear cluster itself and of the gear train housing, and therefore its necessity is also evident. The dynamics of spiral bevel gears have gained increasing importance due to concerns relating to noise and durability. This is because the mesh force acting on the gear teeth is amplified under dynamic conditions, potentially reducing the fatigue life of the gears. Furthermore, a sizable dynamic force can be transmitted to the housing, inducing structure-born gear whine. The elasticity of the bearings can influence the dynamics of spiral bevel gears. Since the fatigue strength of the gears is determined earlier in the development cycle, design deficiencies are identified and understood earlier. In this new method, an individual gear mesh installed in a stiff facility housing is used to mimic the contact pattern and bending stress demonstrated by the same mesh in an actual aircra

Abstract:
Hypoid gears are widely used in rear drive and 4WD vehicle axles. Investigation of their sensitivity to misalignments is one of the most important aspects of their design and optimization procedures. Because of unavoidable mounting deflections under working load, the values for mounting distances and angle deviate from the designed (desired) values (due to elastic deformation of differential housing and gear shafts). As a result the performance characteristics will be changed. This study provides a calculation procedure to design "optimized vehicle differential housing side elastic coefficient

This study investigates the planetary gear housing vibration for rotorcraft systems with equally spaced and diametrically opposed planets using a finite element/contact mechanics model. This approach permits accurate housing deflection calculations at each time instant that result from the changing contact conditions on all gear teeth and elastic deformations of each gear. Planetary gears with diametrically opposed planets have larger amplitude vibrations and more frequency content than those with equally spaced planets. Parametric studies show that although the frequency content does not chan
