Abstract:
The concept of unconscious represents a phenomenon whose history hasn’t been discussed at all within academic spaces meant for this. Its history is still not well known and, specifically at Brazilian undergraduate curriculums, all points that the most important part of the research traditions that created it is not transmitted, be it for the intrinsic politics and ideologies of the undergraduate programs, be it for mere ignorance. The present work proposes to tell a part of this story, being based, specially, upon the works of the Swiss-Canadian psychiatrist Henri F. Ellenberger. For such enterprise, it will be necessary to line out some contours and contexts that circumscribe the relation of this concept with the German Romanticism, pointing out the impact that different concepts of Man and Nature that came from there left as legacy for the current times. Obviously, without having the ambition of mirroring all of this topic’s coverage in this article, at least it seeks to present a frame of the innumerous windings that this concept carries from past centuries, enclosing a brief chronology of names, times and thought.

Graham, Michael Edward. "The German Rathaus." Virtual Press, 1985. http://liblink.bsu.edu/uhtbin/catkey/508038.

Full text
Abstract:
Urban history is a topic which has been seriously neglected by historians who prefer to concentrate on the more glamorous intrigues of kings, queens, power brokers, and wars between countries. Yet, while the monarchs of Europe were fighting wars, the average person was moving off the farm, into the city and, in the process, forever altering the course of history.Particularly scant is the information we have about life in early German towns. Not only has little been done to explore this subject, but most of the research that has been done has been written in German, with little being translated into English. For my creative project, I will examine life in early German towns by researching the role that the townhall (Rathaus) played in the life of the city. This will be especially significant because next-to-nothing has been written in English about the fascinating role of the German Rathaus. Therefore, much of the research, of necessity, will be of German language sources. The Rathaus, hundreds of which dot the German countryside centuries after their construction, was a multi-purpose structure which served as a governmental and judicial center for the town, as well as a mercantile and social center. The creative project will examine the diverse and important role that this unique building played in the life of the medieval German city. In doing so, we will also come to a better understanding of life in the medieval city, an entity which Fritz Rorig describes in The Medieval Town as "one of the most important impulses in world history."(1)

Roides, Paul. "The German Immigrant Experience in Late-Antebellum Kentucky." TopSCHOLAR®, 1995. http://digitalcommons.wku.edu/theses/880.

Full text
Abstract:
While this thesis focuses almost entirely on the German-American experience in late-antebellum Kentucky, it will, from time to time, make comparisons to immigrants elsewhere in America, especially the Irish. In addition, the thesis will explore the rich story of the strengths and weaknesses, the harmony and divisiveness, and the moderation and radicalism of Kentucky's German-born settlers. The question of cultural assimilation among immigrant groups has frequently fascinated social historians. One of the central themes of inquiry continues to be the relative speed with which various early arriving groups blend into mainstream American society, losing their former culture while making their own distinctive cultural contributions to the new society.1 Regarding the Germans specifically, historian Kathleen Neils Conzen has produced some superb work in recent years on the subject of ethnicity and assimilation.2 In a seminal article, Conzen poses the question: "How did so highly structured and sophisticated an ethnic culture disappear so completely?"3 This thesis will try to shed light on the beginning of that process using the microcosm of Kentucky's antebellum experience with German immigrants.

Abstract:
Since the beginning of the 18th century, the instability of the PrussianIGerman state has affected the shape of Berlin. Constant shifts in the boundaries of the empire as well as in its ideology have forced countless architectural redefinitions of the center of its capital. The decisions to preserve, renovate, or replace Berlin’s monuments have thus always been caught between considerations of their ideological impact and their effect on the body of historic docurnentation. Schinkel’s Neue Wache grew out of this tension. It was originally designed and subsequently renovated at significant points of change in German history: it was designed after the defeat of Napoleon and renovated after WWI, modified during the Nazi period, and substantially changed at three points after WWII: in the early years of the German Democratic Republic, at the height of the Cold War, and after reunification in 1993. Consequently, its architecture has always borne traces of history consciously transformed by the ideologies of the present.

Abstract:
Professor M. Zhytaryuk’s review is about a book scientific novelty – a monograph by Professor M. Tymoshyk «Ukrainian journalism in the diaspora: Great Britain. Monograph. K.: Our culture and science, 2020. 500 p. – il., Them. pok., resume English, German, Polish.». Well-known scientist and journalism critic, Professor M. S. Tymoshyk, wrote a thorough work, which, in terms of content, is a combination of a monograph, a textbook and a scientific essay. This book can be useful for both students and practicing journalists or anyone interested in the history of the Ukrainian diaspora, Ukrainian journalism and Ukrainian culture. The author dedicated his work to Stepan Yarmus from Winnipeg, Canada – archpriest, journalist, editor, professor. As the epigraph to the book were taken the words of Ivan Bagryany: «Our press, born under the sword of Damocles of repatriation», not only survived and survived to this day, but also showed a brilliant ability to grow and develop. It was shown that beggars that had come to the West without money at heart can and know how to act so organized. It was also an example of how a modern «enbolshevist» and «denationalized» by the occupier man person is capable of a combined mass action».
