Full textThis thesis discuss the matter of non-profit-making associations as a self regulatory technique out of a theoretical concept of power. The object for the study is the non-profit-making association Ditt Nya Hageby, which work in the neigborhood of Hageby, a suburb to Norrköping. In the study the association is placed in a contemporary postmodern social context and analyzed through semi- structured qualitative interviews, accordingly to hermeneutical method, with five active members of the association as informants. The association consists of members who lives in the neighborhood. Together with a hired organizer they realizes their own ideas in to projects which unquestionably improves the social and physical enviroment in Hageby. The author of this thesis, however argues their activities also can be looked at in a normative way concerning social order in a non-compelling sence. Thus the author means that the association, in this particular sense, could be understood theoretically by implying Michel Foucaults govermentality concept. In order to reach the final conclusion the informants experience concerning sense of community and identity in relation to Ditt Nya Hageby is analyzed. Further theoretical framework is provided by Ferdinand Tönnies concepts of gemeinschaft/gesellschaft and Jürgen Habermas civil publicity. The paper also accounts for what the authorbelieves to be the ideological/methodological basis for Ditt Nya Hageby’s activities by presenting and discussing the"from the inside out"-perspective which is recomended by John P. Kretzman&John.L McKnight regarding the reconstruction, in a wider sense, of exposed neigborhoods.

Full textThe aim of this study is to map out and present how leaders and teachers in extracurricular activities think that their work should be designed for success and what mechanisms they see as significant to the outcome. The investigation is based on qualitative interviews with six leaders in leisure activities such as municipal music school, sports and leisure clubs of varying size and scope. The study also refers to existing research on clubs and societies, for instance, studies on recreational habits, policies and leisure time activities. The result shows that social education is considered to be central to a sense of job satisfaction and this is also the basis for a great part of the activities studied. Other factors such as parents and friends also have strong influence on the outcome as they play a part in the recruitment as well as the instruction. The result also shows that the organizations share common concerns regarding membership reduction, particularly in the number of young adults, a category for which they also seem to lack strategies for attracting.

Full textThe aim of this study was to investigate if there is a need for art and media teachers andteacher students to be able to participate, share educational materials and develop theircompetence within their practice in a social community on the internet. Another aim was toidentify which these needs and requirements would be, and how such a website should bedesigned, considering these requirements.I have based the study on the social learning theory Communities of practice by EtienneWenger, the core of the theory being how we, as active participants, learn together anddevelop our identities in a community through practice in a meaningful environment.The results of the first part of the study are based on quantitative and qualitative data fromquestionnaires and interviews with teachers and teacher students. Further a focus group ofteachers evaluated a number of website-prototypes based on the results from thequestionnaire and the interviews. The prototypes were built on principles of interactiondesign, with related personas and scenarios.In the results the patterns social forum, shared resources, competence developing andregistration with personal profile emerged the most. This was also identified and discussedby the focus group who in the second part of the study constructed two new prototypes, alogin page and a start page based on the previous results.Conclusively there is a great need for a social community of shared practice and participationon a mutual website and the group also had clear opinions about how such a website shouldbe designed. Also teachers expressed the necessity to developing competence in digitallearning resources, according to new curriculums in elementary and secondary schools.Thus the results respond well to the main concepts of the theory “communities of Practice”and there should be a good potential for starting such a community of practice for this groupand perhaps other groups of teachers.

Full textPURPOSE: To find out how identity creating and community utter within the Black Metal culture, to get an insight of why people are drawn to Black Metal, and what function it fills to the adherents/practicians.
METHOD: Analyses of interviews done by the authors. In addition to them literature, mainly in book form, is used for theories.
RESULT: We have seen that there are shared Black Metal values, despite a strong individualism within the culture. And death is important for the survival of the culture and the individuals.
SYFTE: Att ta reda på hur identitetsskapande och gemenskap yttrar sig inom black metal-kulturen, att få en inblick i varför folk dras till black metal, samt vad det fyller för funktion för anhängarna/utövarna.
METOD: Analyser av intervjuer gjorda av författarna. Utöver dem nyttjas litteratur, främst i bokform, för teorier.
RESULTAT: Vi har sett att det finns black metal-gemenskaper, trots en stark individualism inom kulturen. Och döden är viktig för kulturens och individernas överlevnad.

Full textThe foundation of the individual’s understandings of reality can often be acknowledged and observed through the humblest of everyday routines. The terms of socialization which the gamer meets within the virtual space, fill a series of social and intellectual needs for the gaming teenager. In this paper I have gathered information regarding teen usage of computer games through semi structured interviews, and complementary surveys. Through analysis resting on contemporary social theories regarding the conditions of late modernity, the complexity of the gaming experience is explored. The studied teenagers express that they prioritize computer games which cohere to their other interests, and have strategic elements. Other traits that are preferred lay within the player’s interest in the game’s goal, and if elements of the playing experience are deemed as being realistic. The social terms of online playing, and playing in LANs, are different than in other social interactions. The socialization is often characterized by a goal-orientated approach and a quick procession of short-lived acquaintances. The gamer also has to conform to an openly expressed hierarchy and a strict role-play of a nature not common to other everyday actions. This process is in accord with Anthony Gidden’s and Thomas Ziehe’s theories regarding changed conditions for young people trying to find ontological security in the social realities of late modernity. With the help of Pierre Bourdieau I have also explored the causes of condescending attitudes towards gaming teenagers. This is a phenomenon which I, as a teacher in religion and social studies, am critical of. I adhere to the belief that these processes, in which teenagers seek understanding, should be treated with respect and consideration.

Full textDen här uppsatsen analyserar fyra europeiska författare vars gemensamma nämnare är att de har flyttat till Sverige från andra europeiska länder och valt att skriva på svenska: Caterina Pascual Söderbaum, Theodor Kallifatides, Gabriela Melinescu och Sigrid Combüchen. I fokus är romaner som givits ut av författarna under 2000-talet. Uppsatsen bygger på teorier om minne av Pierre Nora och föreställda gemenskaper av Benedict Anderson, Chiara Bottici och Benoît Challand. I Imagined Communities visar Anderson vilken påverkan de framväxande nationalstaterna hade på den moderna romanen under artonhundratalet. Den här uppsatsens hypotes är att framväxten av EU och den europeiska rörlighet som EU resulterat i påverkar narrativen på ett liknande sätt, men på en europeisk snarare än nationell nivå. De viktigaste resultaten tycks i huvudsak bekräfta denna hypotes, och visar på hur en föreställd europeisk gemenskap tar form i de studerade romanerna, en gemenskap som överskrider nationalstatens gränser. Samtliga författare fokuserar på minnen, men på två vitt skilda sätt: Kallifatides och Melinescu skildrar långa minnen med början i antiken och en positiv syn på hågkomst som det som förenar européer. Pascual Söderbaum och Combüchen, å andra sidan, skildrar minnen av det mörka nittonhundratalet och vikten av att glömma bort och gå vidare för att ge framtida generationer frihet. I de flesta romaner finns det dock exempel på lieux de mémoire (minnesplatser), med Noras terminologi, som vidgar sig mot en gemensam europeisk identitet, trots den stora mångfalden av myter och språk.

We haveconducted a study regarding what strategies people use to share images and what they sayabout the users identities. We have found out through previous research, interviews andsurveys that people often share images to connect with others and socialize. The users westudied wanted to present their best sides and still stay true to their personalities in real life.They have no problems with modifying their self-image by, for example, removing tags orpictures taken of them. What is displayed on their Facebook profile page is very important tothe users.

Full textThe purpose of this qualitative study was to explore individual perceived effects of adapted sport from the perspective of the individual, societal and health perspective. The data consists of six interviews with young people up to 25 years who practice some form of parasport as well as an interview with a coach of adapted sport, which we used as a background interview. The interviews with the sports practitioners were analyzed by Mead´s theory about I, Me and Self, Cooley´s theory of the looking glass self and Gidden´s theory of the reflexive self-identity. During the categorization of the interview material five different themes were discovered; the individual approach to disability and social treatment, values on disability, the adapted sports impact on the identity and self-perception, the media´s presentation of adapted sports and individual with disabilities and sport´s impact on the sports practitioners’ physical, mental and social health. The results showed that the individual identity and self-perception was partly affected by exercising adapted sport. The results also showed that the physical health partly was affected by exercising parasport but that the majority participated to get social interaction with others in similar situations. Finally, it arose that how people with disabilities experienced society´s view and attitudes concerning individuals with disabilities affected the sports practitioners´ way of thinking and acting.

Full textThis paper has sought to analyze and contribute to an understanding of football hooligans' experiences of supportership and violence. This was done in order to attain a deeper understanding of the phenomena of football hooliganism. The analysis was carried out with theories on social identity. Through interviews with four hooligans, the analysis shows that the hooligans create a norm within their firm where violence is seen as justified when carried out under specific circumstances. This created the theme Violence under certain circumstances. In addition to this, two other themes that emerged from the analysis were Rivalry and A sense of community. It is found that the hooligans create a social identity that is built on their views on violence as justified in connection to their supportership, and that the community within the so-called hooligan firm as well as rivalry towards other firms are important aspects.

Full textIn a time when more and more people are moving to cities, the purpose of this study has been to analyze lines of demarcation in the urban landscape and to see if there are border technologies that surrounds the community. Charles Tilly's (2004) theory Durable Inequality and Richard Sennett's (2008) theory on the search for communalism in today's urban landscape have been fruitful starting-points for fulfilling the aim of this study. Täby Municipality, which is located north of Stockholm, has been the object of this study and with the theories presented by Blakely & Snyder (1997) as guidelines a further aim of this study has been to compare the lines of demarcation within Täby with physical boundaries in Gated Communities. The study has been conducted with qualitative interviews in combination with an observation, and the results of the study show that there are both unifying and excluding elements within Täby. The physical boundaries that the study has shown to be present in the municipality consist of geographical distance and forms of tenure. Furthermore, the wish to be near one's family has proven to be an important factor for social migration patterns. The analyzed statements of the residents of Täby display a calculating outlook towards their choice of residency where the benefits and downsides of the municipality are weighed against each other. However, regardless of the fact that Stockholm, with its exciting city life, is an alluring option of residency, Täby is perceived as the best alternative. Täby is the adequate option and the municipality where most opportunities are presented.

Full textMost people strive for fellowship. However, most communities and fellowships are fairly homogenous and uniform. Many Christian parish fellowships are built in a similar fashion; they are, in other words, fellowships where pluralism has a hard time asserting itself. Could theology possibly contribute to opening up for discussions regarding community and pluralism in the Christian church and in social life? This dissertation takes its starting point in how two actual parishes in Sweden talk about identity and pluralism and how they try to come to grips with the fact that in each parish there are different mental figures as to how parish fellowship might include pluralism. The difficulties facing the parishes point to a dilemma facing all churches, and possibly all human beings: How to unite fellowship and pluralism? Dietrich Bonhoeffer is a theologian who in his writings discussed this very issue, first as a young man in his dissertation Sanctorum Communio, then later as the leader of the Seminary at Finkenwalde in his book Life Together and finally as a member of the resistance movement during WWII in what was meant to be his magnum opus, Ethics. Based on the theological discussion of Bonhoeffer, it becomes an important task to address the practical dilemma of the churches through responsible action in the practical situation; to try to model a community that includes otherness, at the same time being aware ofthe plurality and that each action may threaten to shut some people out.

Full textMany people go in and out of addiction programs without any long lasting results. The voluntary sector provides an alternate help to this group. If we look from the perspective of the individual, the question is what the organizations in the voluntary sector do provide that is helping the individual to become free from abuse? Existing research does not answer the question of why individuals choose to turn to organizations in the voluntary sector, like AA and the Free Church, when there is addiction treatment to be received through the public sector. This study aims to examine the experiences of people with substance abuse when receiving help from Alcoholics Anonymous, the Swedish Free Church and the traditional addiction treatments of the public sector, to gain an understanding of what has been working for these people. This is a qualitative, hermeneutic study based upon semi-structured interviews with seven interviewees. The study displays that factors such as fellowship, enhanced self-esteem, new identities and spirituality are important for them to be continuously abstinent. The result of the study shows that the interviewees from AA and the Free Church experiences that the help they received provide them with a stronger sense of these factors than the interviewees from traditional addiction treatment experiences. These factors are in this study connected with theories involving identity, empowerment and sense of security in ruling, frames and fosterage or relying on God. This study can contribute with new perspectives that the traditional addiction treatment can find useful to adjust the treatment to the needs of the individuals.

Full textSyftet med den här uppsatsen är att undersöka och få en förståelse för andra generationens invandrares etniska identitet. För att genomföra vår undersökning använde vi oss av den kvalitativa ansatsen, närmare bestämt interjuver. Sammanlagd intervjuades 6 personer i åldrarna 18–29 år. Samtliga deltagare var födda och uppväxta i Sverige med en eller både föräldrarna födda utomlands. Uppsatsens teoretiska utgångspunkter är socialbehaviorismen och socialkonstruktionivsmen. Tidigare forskning och även vårt resultat visar att modersmålet, föräldrarna, bostadsområde och umgängeskrets är återkommande aspekter som har betydelse för konstruerandet av den etniska identiteten. Vårt resultat till skillnad från tidigare forskning visar att även utseendet är en viktig faktor för skapandet av den etniska identiteten. Vår slutsats är att det finns en ambivalens och rotlöshet hos respondenterna som beror på avsaknaden av att vara en del av en större helhet.

Full textDet här är en multimodal diskursanalytisk studie om gestaltning av nationell identitet i ryska filmaffischer, specifikt kopplat till fyra teman, affischer som gestaltar krig, konflikter, våld eller vapen. Studien har som syfte att illustrera hur nationell identitet uttrycks i ryska filmaffischer, kopplat till dessa fyra ovan teman från Sovjetunionens start 1922, till efter dess fall 1991, och fyra år framåt. Detta studeras genom att titta på hur dessa fyra ovan teman har betonats under olika tidsperioder, hur den gemensamma historieskrivningen har gestaltats under olika tidsperioder, vilka likheter och skillnader som går att utläsa från detta, samt hur frågan om “vem är vi som nation?” kan utläsas ur bilderna. Studien diskuterar även problematiken kring media och dess påverkanspotential i speciellt avseende till filmmediet och filmaffischen, då dessa medium har potential att skapa en viss föreställd gemenskap. Problematiken blir därmed vem som har kontroll över filmmediet, då den som har kontroll är den som besitter makten att bestämma vad nationsidentiteten ska bestå av och hur den ska gestaltas. Studien visar att den nationella identiteten uppvisar en stark koppling till krig, konflikter, våld och vapen under hela undersökningsperioden, men hur dessa teman gestaltas skiljer sig dock åt från tidiga/mitt Sovjettiden till sena/post-Sovjet tiden. Den tidiga/mitt perioden lägger främst fokus på en stark patriotism där soldaten och hjälten är vanligt förekommande motiv, som kan tolkas som motiv som ska eliminera frågor om död i samband med krig. Detta kan vidare tolkas som ett resultat av att en autokratisk stat har kontrollerat media. Den sena/post perioden betonar istället en kritik i samband med konflikter genom ett fokus på motiv som blod och döda kroppar, som kan tolkas demonstrera de tragiska konsekvenserna av ett våld. Detta kan istället tolkas som ett resultat av att media har påverkats av att en offentlig sfär har öppnats upp, där medborgare får lov att uttrycka sina åsikter. Likheterna är dock att hela undersökningsperioden betonar en rysk hegemoni som lägger fokus på det “ryska” i nationen. Studien rekommenderar fortsatt forskning av området, antingen genom att undersöka fler teman kopplat till nationell identitet i filmaffischerna, eller genom undersökning av hur andra länder länder gestaltar den nationella identiteten eller den gemensamma historien, däribland krigsminnen, i ett medialt material.
