The study is motivated by the fact that despite the new democratic dispensation in South Africa since 1994, there is still a lot of gender discrimination in the Xhosa society. The novel is about forced marriages, but the fact that such marriages are forced on educated children has disastrous ends. In as far as the Xhosa culture of forced marriages is concerned, the novelist makes a point that it is a soulless marriage, it dehumanises both the minors who are involved in it and it treats the woman being married as if she were an object that is

Abstract:
This paper presents evidence from a large randomized controlled trial (RCT) in Kenya, investigating the effects of watching a new children’s educational TV show at home. One novel aspect of the show is that, besides being instructional, it focuses on changing children’s mindsets about reading, gender attitudes, and socioemotional learning. We recruited 4,300 children from 346 public schools. Students in randomly selected treatment schools received encouragement to watch the publicly broadcasted TV show. We sent parents biweekly SMS reminders about the time and channel the TV show aired. Studen

Abstract:
This paper characterizes creative cognition as a multi-armed bandit problem involving a trade-off between exploration and exploitation in sequential decisions from experience taking place in novel uncertain environments. Creative cognition implements an efficient learning process in this kind of dynamic decision. Special emphasis is put on the optimal sequencing of divergent and convergent behavior by showing that divergence must be inhibited at one point to converge toward creative behavior so that excessive divergence is counterproductive. We test this hypothesis in two behavioral experiment

Abstract:
Based on a framework of memory and recall that accounts for social networks, we provide conditions under which social networks can amplify expectations. We provide evidence for several predictions of the model using a novel dataset on inflation expectations and social network connections: Inflation expectations in the social network are statistically significantly, positively associated with individual inflation expectations; the relationship is stronger for groups that share common demographic characteristics, such as gender, income, or political affiliation. Abstract:
Using a novel dataset that integrates inflation expectations with information on social network connections, we show that inflation expectations within one's social network have a positive, causal relationship with individual inflation expectations. This relationship is stronger for groups that share common demographic characteristics such as gender, income, or political affiliation and when salient information disseminates through the network. In a monetary union New-Keynesian model, socially determined inflation expectations induce imperfect risk-sharing and can affect the inflation and real

Abstract:
Emigration in Mexico predominantly involves young men, with millions of individuals crossing borders, while female labor force participation (FLFP) remains significantly below international levels. This paper explores the interplay between these two phenomena, revealing that higher FLFP substantially reduces male emigration. Using robust econometric methods and panel data from ENNVIH, we estimate that when women work, the probability of male household members migrating decreases by 30 pp. Our analysis employs a twofold novel instrumental variable identification strategy to ensure the causal in
