Abstract:
USES AND NON-USES OF GENEALOGY IN RESEARCH IN EDUCATIONAbstract: this article aims, perspective genealogy thought by Michel Foucault as an important tool to think about the history in the world of education. The genealogy, history would suggest otherwise, from a sharp critique of metaphysics that sometimes nurture many of the headquarters of research within the history of education. These metaphysical models focus on a constant search for a last and first plea, and the search for the essence of things. This time, the "method" genealogical questions himself as a kind of counter history, pointing and circulates the hitherto unthought in the official story, and in this case, the official story about education. It is emphasized that the proposal of the genealogy is not intended to interpret the past, but to describe and establish a network of meaningful relationships that allow statements expressing its meaning and especially the mediations they produce, thus enabling the description becomes explanatory. It is observed that the genealogy poured the history of education, allows a different look on rituals in the classroom, documents and school records, assessment practices, pedagogical discourse, curriculum among many others, this article intends to discuss and rank the ways of a genealogy in education, having as main reference the theoretical construction of Michel Foucault. Keywords: Education. Abstract:
(Genealogy of Islamic law studies among Islamic universities has become dynamic and transformative. The genealogy has been transformed since the scientific networks existed in state of Islamic university. These networks eventually form two typologies of Islamic law studies which are reconstruction of mazhab and interpretative reconstruction. The genealogical process exists without formal and structural borders while using interdisciplinary approach from social science. It proves that Islamic law has exprienced a dynamic process which is indicated by new perspectives, that rooted from old approaches and develops in the frame of three principles which are diversity, change and continuity)

On its acts of problematization Abstract: Scrutinizing two main notions of Michel Foucault’s thinking – Critique and Genealogy -, this paper elucidates the concept of problematization, with an emphasis in its hypothetical performative aspect. Firstly, we build a perspective on the task of a critical thinker to, in a second moment, elucidate the difference between a history of solutions and a genealogy of problems. The provocative question mark in title refers to two attitudes alluded by Foucault. Reflecting about acts of problematization, we hope to offer a position about them, and show the particular way of this author to shape those central notions approached before. Keywords: Critique. Abstract:
AbstractAt the end of the BNE MSS710806 manuscript an anonymous 16th-century hand copied a brief genealogy: in this paper I claim that this text is in fact a new attestation of the Genealogía del Cid, which only survives as an appendix to the Crónica particular del Cid (Burgos, 1512). This copy of the Genealogía reveals significant variants from the Burgos 1512 edition: it sets Cid’s death in July 1099 and it awards Alphonse X the Wise with the authorship of his epitaph. These historical facts were known to Berganza in the 18th century, who recorded them in his Antigüedades without revealing his sources. In this paper, along with the edition of the text, I suggest that this copy of the Genealogía was related to the monastery of Cardeña, with which Berganza was acquainted and which reveals new insights on the text genealogy.

Abstract:
The current research work encompasses the assessment of similarity based facial features of images with erected method so as to determines the genealogical similarity. It is based on the principle of grouping the closer features, as compared to those which are away from the predefined threshold for a better ascertainment of the extracted features. The system developed is trained using deep learning-oriented architecture incorporating these closer features for a binary classification of the subjects considered into genealogic non-genealogic. The genealogic set of data is further used to calculate the percentage of similarity with erected methods. The present work considered XX datasets from XXXX source for the assessment of facial similarities. The results portrayed an accuracy of 96.3% for genealogic data, the salient among them being those of father-daughter (98.1%), father-son(98.3%), mother-daughter(96.6%), mother-son(96.1%) genealogy in case of the datasets from “kinface W-I”. Extending this work onto “kinface W-II” set of data, the results were promising with father-daughter(98.5%), father-son(96.7%), mother-daughter(93.4%) and mother-son(98.9%) genealogy. Such an approach could be further extended to larger database so as to assess the genealogical similarity with the aid of machine-learning algorithms.

Abstract:
This article explores narratives of humanitarian compassion as rendered intelligible through the relational intersecting concerns about Syrian refugees and the suicide crisis in the Indigenous community of Attawapiskat, Ontario. Fuelled by a combination of anti-refugee rhetoric, racism and ongoing colonialism experienced by Indigenous people and communities, public and media discourse reveals how humanitarian governance is constitutive of the genealogy of settler colonialism. I suggest that examining the political genealogy of humanitarian governance in white settler colonialism assists in revealing the centrality of racial colonial violence in producing public and media discourse that is contingent upon the relational currencies of anti-refugee rhetoric, racism and humanitarian compassion. As expressions of a grammar of racial difference in liberal settler colonialism, these discourses ultimately reveal how racial colonial violence is constituted through the genealogy of humanitarianism.

Abstract:

Abstract:
In this work we investigate through numerical simulations the evolution of the genetic composition of a population, giving emphasis to the dynamic process termed Muller\'s ratchet, which is responsible for the degradation of the population due to the accumulation of deleterious mutations in finite populations. We consider also the genealogy of the individuals evolving in a population under the effect of the Muller\'s ratchet. In addition, we investigate analytically the deterministic limit of the model, in which the population size is infinite, where ratchet process does not act. The replication landscape, i.e., the function that maps the genetic load of an individual on its probability of reproduction used in this work is a generalization of that originally considered by Muller to illustrate the process of the ratchet. In particular, we add to that landscape a parameter of epistasis that models the interactions among the sites of the sequences of the individuals. The tunning of this parameter determines three different types of epistasis: (i) synergistic, where the mutations become more deleterious with the number of mutations already present; (ii) diminishing, where the deleterious effect of a new mutation is attenuated; and (iii) multiplicative, where the new mutations cause identical damages, independently of the previous number of mutations

This research discusses the naturalization of the idea of a âchild with a sayâ in contemporary critical-scientific discourses. This conception was constituted in these discourses so as to criticize the idea of modern childhood, related, among other things, to notions of immaturity and dependence on adults. The figure of subjectivity âchild with a sayâ is used to justify an ensemble of varied practices â juridical (âchild-witnessâ), political (âcitizen child"), mediatic (âprotagonist childâ), educational (âcompetent childâ) â which aims at investing on the child figure for which the constitution of a child as a subject of opinion and representation is determinant. The analysis of this discursive field â which comprises Sociology of Childhood, Anthropology of Childhood, Pedagogy of Childhood and Social Psychology â based on M. Foucaultâs archaeo-genealogy, identified the kinds of statements present in this network, as well as the kind of discourse used. It was noticed that the functioning of these discourses depends on some presuppositions, which, in this research, are denominated mechanisms of critical discursivity. They are: the development of the concept representations of childhood and child, the constitution of the adult as an interdictor, the rediscovery of childhood, speech as a natural possibility and the idealization of the âchildhood with a speechâ. It was concluded that such presuppositions cooperate to produce the âchildhood with a speechâ as evidence, to which knowledge must devote itself and experience. Finally, an assemblage of investigation lines were elaborated and served as a base for the constitution of a genealogy of this subjectivity figure, typical of present times.

Abstract:

Individual genomic ancestry was estimated using autosomal insertion/deletion markers (INDELs) and TLR polymorphisms were genotyped by PCR-RFLP, sequencing and capillary electrophoresis. Previous data about present or previous malaria were obtained by molecular and serological methods and were used to evaluate the relationship of polymorphisms in TLRs and malaria in these individuals. The results showed that: (i) nine SNPs and one microsatellite were polymorphic; (ii) the majority of the individuals analyzed presented a greater proportion of European ancestry; (iii) the average proportions of European ancestry differed significantly in the genotypes of TLR1 (I602S) and TLR6 (P249S); (iv) the probability of having the variant G allele in TLR1 increases with increasing European ancestry as well as increases the probability of having the T allele variant in TLR6; (v) the TLR9 -1237T/C polymorphism was strongly related to malaria, and the presence of at least one C allele in this position was shown to increase the risk for malaria 2.3 times; and (vi) TLR9-1486T/C in combination with TLR6 was protective, since the association of variant alleles reduced the risk of malaria by 4.4 times. The G allele in TLR1 has been related to a decreased immune response, which could explain the high prevalence of cases of asymptomatic malaria in areas of southeastern Brazil. TLR9 has been linked to the pathogenesis of malaria in animal and human studies, possibly being modulated by polymorphisms in the promoter region. Our data also reinforce the need to include ancestral markers in genetic association studies to avoid biased results. Finally, this is the first study to associate polymorphisms in genes of innate immunity and malaria in Atlantic Forest samples.

Abstract:
The hypothesis of this work is that it is possible to find a systematic unity in Michel Foucaults philosophical thought. From his archaeological writings produced in the 1960s to the last archaeological and genealogical considerations on ethics and subjectivity, one notices a kind of philosophical reflection that conciliates a discussion about language and a discussion about man. This research shows how Foucault methodologically constructs that reflection

Abstract:
The article investigates the relationship between Boccaccio's Genealogie and the exegesis of Ovid's Metamorphoses. For each character included in his genealogy, Boccaccio reports first of all the contents of the myth related to it and then the different literal and allegorical interpretations. The main sources are, besides Ovid, Paolo da Perugia and a mysterious Theodontius, who can be identified with a commentary on the Metamorphoses produced in the 11th or 12th century. The article aims to demonstrate that Boccaccio follows the method used by medieval exegetes of the Metamorphoses: rejecting the pagan contents of the myth, the commentators offered an allegorical and moralising interpretation, in fact rewriting the Metamorphoses as a 'medieval' work.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Shah’s metrics for measuring ideation effectiveness have been used extensively by the engineering design community to quantify the value of designed concepts. Shah measures novelty as the infrequency of an idea relative to a set of ideas. Vargas-Hernandez extended this novelty metric using partial genealogy trees to consider the frequency of ideas that share the same working principle. These genealogy trees capture differences between individual ideas organized by the following levels of abstraction: physical principle, working principle, and embodiment. Shah’s and Vargas-Hernandez’s metrics both require that all ideas be described at the lowest level (embodiment). This approach excludes ideas that are described at higher levels of abstraction. This paper proposes a new novelty metric that extends Vargas Hernandez’s metrics by including the higher levels of the genealogy trees, allowing abstract ideas to be properly evaluated. This paper compares the newly proposed novelty metric to Shah’s and Vargas Hernandez’s metrics using data from a previous study. The study required participants to perform problem-solving tasks in which they submitted a textual list of ideas for how to solve general day-to-day problems. The proposed novelty metric addresses limitations of the previous metrics when applied to the abstract ideas in the data set and meets established metric requirements. The proposed metric also broadens Shah’s metric in a similar manner as Vargas Hernandez but extends it to capture the entire genealogy tree rather than a subset of the tree.
