Abstract:
Pagrindiniai žodžiai: hermeneutika, genealogija, tradicija, ontologija, valia galiai.Towards a New Account of Hermeneutics: Genealogy versus Hermeneutics Andrius Bielskis SummaryThe essay analyses the difference between Hans-Georg Gadamer’s and Alasdair MacIntyre’s conceptions of hermeneutic philosophy, on the one hand, and Nietzschean genealogy, on the other. It argues that Ricoeur’s famous distinction between ‘hermeneutics of faith’ and ‘hermeneutics of suspicion’ in the light of the ontological reading of Nietzsche’s genealogy is misleading. Rather than trying to understand Nietzsche’s philosophy as the hermeneutics of suspicion, it is more accurate to see Nietzsche’s and Foucault’s interpretive philosophy in terms of genealogy. The contrast between Gadamerian hermeneutics and Nietzschean genealogy, the one hand, as well as reading Gadamer hermeneutics in the light of MacIntyre’s conception of tradition-constituted and tradition-constitutive philosophical inquiry, on the other, allow us to formulate an alternative conception of hermeneutics. The essay argues that hermeneutics is inevitably linked to tradition: hermeneutics depend on and draws its moral and intellectual resources from tradition as well as determines and continues tradition further. Keywords: Hermeneutics, genealogy, tradition, ontology, will to power.: Calibri, sans-serif;">

Abstract:
Pagrindiniai žodžiai: genealogija, istorijos filosofija, galia, diskursas.Power, History and Genealogy: Friedrich Nietzsche and Michel FoucaultAndrius Bielskis SummaryThe essay explores Friedrich Nietzsche’s and Michel Foucault’s accounts of genealogy. It argues that genealogy sees human history not in terms of events, battles and wars (i.e. through empirical facts), but in terms of discursive regimes and practices which form our subjectivity. The link between knowledge/truth and power plays crucial role in both Nietzsche’s and Foucault’s accounts of genealogy. Foucault’s notion of dispositive (the regime of intelligibility) serves as a key concept in his approach to history. The Nietzschean idea of the will to power is transformed into the idea of strategies of relations of forces supporting and supported by types of knowledge. The essay concludes that Foucault’s genealogy reduces meaning to power relations. It argues that in Foucault’s thought human history is intelligible not because of its inner meaning, but because knowledge and discourses, which play a key role in human history, are understood in terms of tactics and strategies. Keywords: genealogy, philosophy of history, power, discourse.

Abstract:
Boccaccio's Genealogia deorum has endured for reasons quite apart from its usefulness as a reference book. Its genealogies dismember myths as narratives and do little to facilitate reference, but they enact the mingled senses of hope, frustration, and bad faith that characterize early humanist efforts. The extinction of myth both justifies and blocks Boccaccio's quest to restore the genealogy of the old gods in order to revive and legitimize the line of poets. He can safely undertake this quest only if assured of failure. Even then it may not be safe to play Aesculapius to the dismembered corpus of ancient myth. Similar paradoxes emerge from analogies with the Bible and its genealogical mode of history. Finally, the Genealogy's structure imitates the dilemma of the modern poet who, inheriting no authority for his fictions from great antique originals, must press his claim to legitimacy, make it good, perhaps make it up.

Abstract:
AbstractWe suffer from genealogical anxiety when we worry that the contingent origins of our representations, once revealed, will somehow undermine or cast doubt on those representations. Is such anxiety ever rational? Many have apparently thought so, from pre-Socratic critics of Greek theology to contemporary evolutionary debunkers of morality. One strategy for vindicating critical genealogies is to see them as undermining the epistemic standing of our representations—the justification of our beliefs, the aptness of our concepts, and so on. I argue that this strategy is not as promising as it might first seem. Instead, I suggest that critical genealogies can wield a sort of meta-epistemic power; in so far as we wish to resist the genealogical critic, we are under pressure to see ourselves as the beneficiaries of a certain kind of good luck: what I call genealogical luck. But there is also a resolutely non-epistemic way of understanding the power of critical genealogies, one that is essential, I argue, for understanding the genealogical projects of various theorists, including Nietzsche and Catharine MacKinnon. For critical genealogies can reveal what it is that our representations do—and what we, in turn, might do with them.

Abstract:
Abstract This article explores the relationships between the critical and persuasive claims of genealogy. It begins by contesting a recent trend in scholarship that insists genealogies are meant to dismantle metaphysical ideas, not persuade concrete individuals to give up their beliefs. It argues such an interpretation conflates genealogical critique into Kantian, excises the role of the reader, and illegitimately allows genealogists to escape the question of whether the method’s efficacy is historically contingent. The second section investigates the assumptions about the historical position and normative commitments of both the genealogist and the reader that must be in place for genealogy’s critical work to become persuasive. It then questions whether those assumptions are compatible with the basic commitments of genealogy as outlined by Nietzsche and Foucault. The final section asks whether structures of authority such that genealogy as a tool still addresses the authority structures of the present moment.

Abstract:
The Quebec population descends in most part from French immigrants who settled in the St Lawrence River valley during the seventeenth century. However, people from other European origins have also contributed to the early settlement of the Canadian province. By means of genealogical data spanning more than three centuries, this study aimed to measure the contributions of English and Scottish immigrants to the peopling of the Quebec regions. More than 5,000 genealogies were reconstructed using the BALSAC population database. These genealogies span more than ten generations on average. Immigrants of each origin were identified and linked to all their descendants in the genealogical samples. Results show that English and Scottish founders appear in the genealogies of all Quebec regions, although in different proportions. These founders and/or their descendants were integrated into the predominant French Catholic population during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

Abstract:
The widespread trend for compiling genealogies in Korea is known to have emerged around the seventeenth century. To explain this, scholars have pointed to the influence of neo-Confucianism and similarities with Chinese genealogical traditions. However, this study focuses on the inclusionary and exclusionary forces within Korean genealogy with the former drawing more members into the genealogy and the latter resulting in fewer family members being included. In particular, this study draws attention to the selective recording of patrilineal family members and to the frequent inclusion of relatives-in-law in Korean genealogies. The social hierarchy system of premodern Korea appears to have been the most crucial factor in determining the particular features and popularity of Korean genealogies, and in this article, I draw attention to how this accounts for the differences between Korean genealogy and the genealogical traditions of other East Asian societies.

The current research work encompasses the assessment of similarity based facial features of images with erected method so as to determines the genealogical similarity. It is based on the principle of grouping the closer features, as compared to those which are away from the predefined threshold for a better ascertainment of the extracted features. The system developed is trained using deep learning-oriented architecture incorporating these closer features for a binary classification of the subjects considered into genealogic non-genealogic. The genealogic set of data is further used to calculate the percentage of similarity with erected methods. The present work considered XX datasets from XXXX source for the assessment of facial similarities. The results portrayed an accuracy of 96.3% for genealogic data, the salient among them being those of father-daughter (98.1%), father-son(98.3%), mother-daughter(96.6%), mother-son(96.1%) genealogy in case of the datasets from “kinface W-I”. Extending this work onto “kinface W-II” set of data, the results were promising with father-daughter(98.5%), father-son(96.7%), mother-daughter(93.4%) and mother-son(98.9%) genealogy. Such an approach could be further extended to larger database so as to assess the genealogical similarity with the aid of machine-learning algorithms.

Abstract:
Genealogical tree modeling is essential for estimating evolutionary parameters in population genetics and phylogenetics. Recent mathematical results concerning ranked genealogies without leaf labels unlock opportunities in the analysis of evolutionary trees. In particular, comparisons between ranked genealogies facilitate the study of evolutionary processes of different organisms sampled at multiple time periods. We propose metrics on ranked tree shapes and ranked genealogies for lineages isochronously and heterochronously sampled. Our proposed tree metrics make it possible to conduct statistical analyses of ranked tree shapes and timed ranked tree shapes or ranked genealogies. Such analyses allow us to assess differences in tree distributions, quantify estimation uncertainty, and summarize tree distributions. We show the utility of our metrics via simulations and an application in infectious diseases.

Abstract:
Abstract The properties of gene and allelic genealogies at a gametophytic self-incompatibility locus in plants have been investigated analytically and checked against extensive numerical simulations. It is found that, as with overdominant loci, there are two genealogical processes with markedly different time scales. First, functionally distinct allelic lines diverge on an extremely long time scale which is inversely related to the mutation rate to new alleles. These alleles show a genealogical structure which is similar, after an appropriate rescaling of time, to that described by the coalescent process for genes at a neutral locus. Second, gene copies sampled within the same functional allelic line show genealogical relationships similar to neutral gene genealogies but on a much shorter time scale, which is on the same order of magnitude as the harmonic mean of the number of gene copies within an allelic line. These results are discussed in relation to data showing trans-specific polymorphisms for alleles at the gametophytic self-incompatibility locus in the Solanaceae. It is shown that population sizes on the order of 4 x 10(5) and a mutation rate per locus per generation as high as 10(-6) could account for estimated allelic divergence times in this family.

Aim. To determine the family accumulation of multifactorial diseases in genealogies of patients with mental disorders (MD). Methods. Genealogical analysis was carried out in the families of patients with MD by the generally accepted method. Statistical analysis of the results of research was carried out using Excel software package and SPSS Statistics 17.0. Results. The genealogical analysis of patients showed that 58.8 % of families of probands with phobic-anxiety disorders (PAD) and 74.4 % of families of patients with anxiety-depressive disorders (ADD) had genetic burden for MD. In both groups, in relatives of sick probands, psychiatric, neurological and cardiovascular diseases were significantly more often, compared to the frequency of these diseases among members of families of healthy peers, moreover in families of patients with PAD endocrine diseases were more frequent. Conclusions. The genetic burden in children and adolescents with PAD and ADD has been determined. Among the multifactorial diseases in the families of patients with PAD and ADD mental, neurological and cardiovascular diseases and unfavorable factors of environment significantly prevailed. Abstract:
Abstract This brief essay is a reflection on the genealogical as a metaphor for modernity’s teleologies. Considering genealogy not as a biological lineage but as a network of kinship relations, we can better understand the collective—and often teleologically recursive—means by which modernity is imagined and reimagined. Understood via this metaphor of relation, we can see how modernity is not simply a progressive line of descendancy, but a complex web of influence. Our methodologies for tracing modernity’s genealogies must therefore think beyond what is inevitable and toward the deliberate and multiplicitous practices contributing to its reproduction. These methodologies must often follow circuitous routes that defy normative disciplinary taxonomies and frameworks. Moreover, the process of tracing modernity’s genealogies is ongoing, perpetuated always to the present moment as its study is also a mechanism for its perpetual reproduction. Black genealogical reproduction is an involved process in modernity, encompassing mechanisms from the bodily to the aesthetic to the technological, resisting normalized teleologies of descent, and extending its branches into complex webs that emerge within Black futures and help to produce them.

Abstract:
Alberic of Trois-Fontaines was a thirteenth-century Cistercian and a well-read chronicler. He wrote about the happenings taking place in Europe, from Ruś to Wales. Among many subjects, he was especially keen on finding out the origins of the families and the genealogical relations. He not only summarised chronicles but undertook independent research on the topic of genealogies of rulers and nobles. The extent of his writing on this subject shows that it was one of his main interests. While his knowledge about the family connections was sometimes appreciated, it was also perceived as full of mistakes. There was almost no discussion about the meaning of the various genealogies presented by Alberic. This is regrettable, as Alberic expresses a very interesting idea in the text: the common ancestry for the whole European nobility. In the article I point out Alberic’s probable sources of information, the role genealogical matter had in the chronicle. Finally I discuss the inspirations for the special treating of genealogy in the chronicle pointing at Peter of Poitiers’ example.

Abstract:
Pesantren as subcultures are indeed interesting to be studied. Several studies have been carried out such as Zamakhsary Dhofier on the network of pesantren in Java and Martin van Bruinessen on the pesantren and tarekat. Continuing it, Ading Kusdiana through her dissertation at Padjadjaran University conducted a research on the network of Pesantren in the Priangan region (West Java), focusing on the existence and continuity of Pesantren through five inter-Islamic networks: scientific networks, marriage, genealogical, congregational religious views, and the similarity of the vision of opposition to the invaders. Kusdiana's research confirmed Zamakhshari Dhofier's theory and did not refute it at all. So that this feels like a new work with a sense of "old work". The study of this theme will be even more interesting if Kusdiana uses the new genealogical theory as Yudi Latif did. This will also portray changes and continuity in the network of Pesantren. However, Kusdiana’s work deserves to be appreciated because it presents a lot of new data-information regarding the traces and spreads of Pesantren in Priangan. Through thiswork, we can get a relatively completed picture of the world of Pesantren in Priangan in the 1800-1945 period. Keywords: Network of Pesantren, Genealogy Theory, Pesantren in Priangan Pesantren sebagai subkultur memang menarik dikaji. Abstract:
As a genetic mutation is passed down across generations, it distinguishes those genomes that have inherited it from those that have not, providing a glimpse of the genealogical tree relating the genomes to each other at that site. Statistical summaries of genetic variation therefore also describe the underlying genealogies. We use this correspondence to define a general framework that efficiently computes single-site population genetic statistics using the succinct tree sequence encoding of genealogies and genome sequence. The general approach accumulates sample weights within the genealogical tree at each position on the genome, which are then combined using a summary function; different statistics result from different choices of weight and function. Results can be reported in three ways: by site, which corresponds to statistics calculated as usual from genome sequence; by branch, which gives the expected value of the dual site statistic under the infinite sites model of mutation, and by node, which summarizes the contribution of each ancestor to these statistics. We use the framework to implement many currently defined statistics of genome sequence (making the statistics’ relationship to the underlying genealogical trees concrete and explicit), as well as the corresponding branch statistics of tree shape. We evaluate computational performance using simulated data, and show that calculating statistics from tree sequences using this general framework is several orders of magnitude more efficient than optimized matrix-based methods in terms of both run time and memory requirements. We also explore how well the duality between site and branch statistics holds in practice on trees inferred from the 1000 Genomes Project data set, and discuss ways in which deviations may encode interesting biological signals.

Abstract:
ArgumentThe article examines the organizational patterns of nineteenth-century Swiss Alpine geology. It argues that early and middle nineteenth-century Swiss geognosy was shaped in genealogical terms and that the patterns of genealogical reasoning and practice worked as a vehicle of transmission toward the generalization of locally gained empirical knowledge. The case study is provided by the Zurich geologist Albert Heim, who, in the early 1870s, blended intellectual and patrilineal genealogies that connected two generations of fathers and sons: Hans Conrad and Arnold Escher, Albert and Arnold Heim. Two things were transmitted from one generation to the next, a domain of geognostic research, the Glarus Alps, and a research interest in an explanation of the massive geognostic anomalies observed there. The legacy found its embodiment in the Escher family archive. The genealogical logic became visible and then experienced a crisis when, later in the century, the focus of Alpine geology shifted from geognosy to tectonics. Tectonic research loosened the traditional link between the intimate knowledge of a territory and the generalization from empirical data.

Abstract There is an eye-catching similarity in structure between Paul Rée’s Origin of Moral Sensations and Nietzsche’s Genealogy of Morals. Accordingly, the Genealogy has been understood as a riposte to Rée. I will argue in this paper that Nietzsche distances himself from Rée not only by developing alternative genealogies for moral concepts and institutions. Nietzsche’s main aim in criticizing Rée is to develop his own genealogical method that aims for historical adequacy, psychological adequacy, distinction of cause and function, acceptance of partial historical opacity and perspectivism.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the data connection, spatial distribution characteristics and trends in genealogical information. First, it implements a spatial-temporal visualization of the Hakka genealogical information system that makes these individual family pedigree charts appear as one seamless genealogy to family and researchers seeking connections and family history all over the world. Second, this study applies migration analysis by applying big data technologies to Hakka genealogies to investigate the migration patterns of the Hakka ethnic group in Taiwan between 1954 and 2014. This innovative library service enhances the Hakka genealogical migration analysis using big data. Design/methodology/approach The platform is designed for the exchange of genealogical data to be used in big data analysis. This study integrates big data and geographic information systems (GIS) to map the population distribution themes. The general procedure included collecting genealogical big data, geographic encoding, gathering the map information, GIS layer integration and migration map production. Findings The analytical results demonstrate that big data technology is highly appropriate for family migration history analysis, given the increasing volume, velocity and variety of genealogical data. The spatial-temporal visualization of the genealogical research platform can follow family history and migration paths, and dynamically generate roadmaps to simplify the cartographic steps. Practical implications Technology that combines big data and GIS is suitable for performing migration analysis based on genealogy. A web-based application for spatial-temporal genealogical information also demonstrates the contribution of innovative library services. Social implications Big data play a dominant role in library services, and in turn, provide an active library service. These findings indicate that big data technology can provide a suitable tool for improving library services. Originality/value Online genealogy and family trees are linked with large-volume, growing data sets that are complex and have multiple, autonomous sources. The migration analysis using big data has the potential to help genealogy researchers to construct minority ethnic history.

Abstract:
Range expansions accelerate evolution through multiple mechanisms, including gene surfing and genetic drift. The inference and control of these evolutionary processes ultimately rely on the information contained in genealogical trees. Currently, there are two opposing views on how range expansions shape genealogies. In invasion biology, expansions are typically approximated by a series of population bottlenecks producing genealogies with only pairwise mergers between lineages—a process known as the Kingman coalescent. Conversely, traveling wave models predict a coalescent with multiple mergers, known as the Bolthausen–Sznitman coalescent. Here, we unify these two approaches and show that expansions can generate an entire spectrum of coalescent topologies. Specifically, we show that tree topology is controlled by growth dynamics at the front and exhibits large differences between pulled and pushed expansions. These differences are explained by the fluctuations in the total number of descendants left by the early founders. High growth cooperativity leads to a narrow distribution of reproductive values and the Kingman coalescent. Conversely, low growth cooperativity results in a broad distribution, whose exponent controls the merger sizes in the genealogies. These broad distribution and non-Kingman tree topologies emerge due to the fluctuations in the front shape and position and do not occur in quasi-deterministic simulations. Overall, our results show that range expansions provide a robust mechanism for generating different types of multiple mergers, which could be similar to those observed in populations with strong selection or high fecundity. Thus, caution should be exercised in making inferences about the origin of non-Kingman genealogies.

Abstract:
DNA sequence analysis has been of the utmost importance to delimit species boundaries in the genus Diaporthe. However, the common practice of combining multiple genes, without applying the genealogical concordance criterion has complicated the robust delimitation of species, given that phylogenetic incongruence between loci has been disregarded. Despite the several attempts to delineate the species boundaries in the D. eres complex, the phylogenetic limits within this complex remain unclear. In order to bridge this gap, we employed the Genealogical Phylogenetic Species Recognition principle (GCPSR) and the coalescent-based model Poisson Tree Processes (PTPs) and evaluated the presence of recombination within the D. eres complex. Based on the GCPSR principle, presence of incongruence between individual gene genealogies, i.e., conflicting nodes and branches lacking phylogenetic support, was evident. Moreover, the results of the coalescent model identified D. eres complex as a single species, which was not consistent with the current large number of species within the complex recognized in phylogenetic analyses. The absence of reproductive isolation and barriers to gene flow as well as the high haplotype and low nucleotide diversity indices within the above-mentioned complex suggest that D. eres constitutes a population rather than different lineages. Therefore, we argue that a cohesive approach comprising genealogical concordance criteria and methods to detect recombination must be implemented in future studies to circumscribe species in the genus Diaporthe.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Using both long forgotten and newly available steles from North China, this article looks at these ancient monuments to explore the rise and evolution of an epigraphic practice under Jurchen and Mongol rules (1127–1368). In particular it looks at steles erected to record genealogical information (called xianyingbei in general) in north China during the twelfth to fourteenth centuries, which was a new usage for the stele in the area. The article's main aim is to demonstrate how cultural integration among different social strata was triggered by the invasions of the Jurchen and Mongol conquerors, which in turn led to the formation of a new and legitimate way to compile family genealogies in north China.

Abstract:
AbstractGenealogical constructions of population processes provide models which simultaneously record the forward-in-time evolution of the population size (and distribution of locations and types for models that include them) and the backward-in-time genealogies of the individuals in the population at each timet. A genealogical construction for continuous-time Markov branching processes from Kurtz and Rodrigues (2011) is described and exploited to give the normalized limit in the supercritical case. A Seneta‒Heyde norming is identified as a solution of an ordinary differential equation. The analogous results are given for continuous-state branching processes, including proofs of the normalized limits of Grey (1974) in both the supercritical and critical/subcritical cases.

Abstract:
In his work Truth and Truthfulness, Bernard Williams offers a very different interpretation of philosophical genealogy than that expounded in the secondary literature. The “Received View” of genealogy holds that it is “documentary grey”: it attempts to provide historically well-supported, coherent, but defeasible explanations for the actual transformation of practices, values, and emotions in history. However, paradoxically, the standard interpretation also holds another principle. Genealogies are nevertheless polemical because they admit that any evidence that would serve to justify a genealogical account is indexical to a perspective. In short, genealogies are not true per se. This view of genealogy leaves it vulnerable to three criticisms. I call these three: (1) the reflexive, (2) the substantive, and (3) the semantic. In contrast, Williams argues that all genealogies provide a functional account for the manifestation of something and further, that a State of Nature story subtends these accounts. The upshot of Williams’ approach is that it makes for strange philosophical bedfellows. For example, Nietzsche’s account for the rise of Christian morality shares methodological features with Hobbes’ functional explanation for the emergence of civilization and yet Nietzsche seems to take issue with genealogists who are hypothesis mongers gazing haphazardly into the blue. In the following article, I flesh out, more fully, how to make sense of Williams’ novel reclassification of genealogy. I show that Nietzsche’s genealogies are State of Nature stories and, just like Hobbes’ State of Nature story in chapter thirteen of Leviathan, are subtended by our collective corporeality. I then demonstrate how Nietzsche’s three stories in the Genealogy, when brought together, serve to undermine what Williams refers to as “… a new system (of reasons)—which very powerfully resists being understood in such terms …” Finally, I explain how my reconstruction of Williams’ interpretation of the genealogy immunizes it against the three criticisms noted above.

Abstract:
This paper provides a first report of a study of the population of Somié, a Mambila village in Cameroun, which seeks to explore ways of linking microdemographic analysis and the results of anthropological research. We have sought ways in which we can analyze in a common frame genealogical data, residence patterns, and other data from anthropological fieldwork, together with census returns and archival materials.By combining the details of kinship and residence (gathered during anthropological fieldwork over a period of ten years) with the statistics of births and deaths from census results and archival materials from 1950 onwards, we can begin to assess the effects of genealogical and residence factors on fertility and mortality. Conversely, it becomes possible to examine the effects of demographic factors on the genealogical basis of village life.In an area where sister exchange marriage was practiced, repeated marriages give rise to complex genealogies whose connection to demographic factors has not been analyzed. Demographic changes influence the numbers of kin available for marriage, and the relationships between fertility, fecundity, mortality, morbidity, rates of sister exchange, and numbers of kin (in different categories) are significant and their change over time is hard to investigate without this type of research. In addition it provides ways in which demographic changes can be analyzed, and points to ways of assessing the impact of the introduction of health care provision and primary education on both demographic indicators and on beliefs and attitudes to health and fertility. Such research has clear relevance for policy-makers.

Abstract:
AbstractThis article considers the question of collective identity formation in the Arab Gulf by looking at the distinctive ways in which the genealogies of the dominant kinship collective of the United Arab Emirates, the Banī Yās confederation, have been represented by that country's cultural and heritage-making institutions. I look comparatively at two high profile, state-sponsored, Emirati genealogical projects, one a site, and the other a text, and investigate their significance from a historical and ethnographic perspective. I find that the relatively weak religious gravity of the United Arab Emirates allows for unorthodox representations of kinship at the national level, that women do not necessarily buy into these representations yet contribute in their own ways to a kinship nationalist discourse, and that genealogy is nonetheless a particularly fraught idiom for binding together an ethnically heterogeneous society like the Emirates. Approaching the public representation of genealogies through an integrative framework, this article sheds light on important themes in modern Emirati and broader Gulf social and political life, including the complicated place of religious norms in a newly fashioned Muslim nation, the influence of gender on conceptions of kinship and nationhood, and the challenge ethnic heterogeneity poses to an Arab ethno-national project.

Fletcher, K. F. B. "Systematic Genealogies in Apollodorus' Bibliotheca and the Exclusion of Rome from Greek Myth." Classical Antiquity 27, no. 1 (April 1, 2008): 59–91. http://dx.doi.org/10.1525/ca.2008.27.1.59.

Abstract:
Apollodorus' Bibliotheca is often used, though little studied. Like any author, however, Apollodorus has his own aims. As scholars have noticed, he does not include any discussion of Rome and rarely mentions Italy, an absence they link to tendencies of the Second Sophistic, during which period he was writing. I refine this view by exploring the nature of Apollodorus' project as a whole, showing that he creates a system of genealogies that connects Greece with other places and peoples of the ancient world, specifically the Near East. The nature of the Bibliotheca allows us to see these myths as a closed system, in which these genealogical connections depend upon the perceived importance of these peoples; e.g. the Persians have more connections with the Greeks than the Molossians do. It is from this system that Apollodorus excludes Rome, thereby denying the Romans any genealogical connections with the Greeks and thus marking them as being of little importance. The consciousness of Apollodorus' decisions is clear from the many opportunities he had to include Rome and the fact that his sources contained myths about Rome or Italy. The Bibliotheca is a tendentious account of Greek myth with its own goals, and our knowledge of Apollodorus' aims must condition any use of this text.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Članek poskuša v kontekstu Anti-Ojdipa in prek branja Genealogije morale natančneje zastaviti problem spomina ter dlje razviti pojmovanje in vlogo biofiliacijskega spomina.
