Abstract:
In this paper, following the simple proposal by He and Ma for quantization of a black hole (BH) using Bohr’s method, we discuss the solvability of the wave equation for such a BH. We consequentially solve the associated Schrödinger equation. The eigenfunction problem reduces to the HeunB, H(α, β, γ, δ; z), differential equation, which is a natural generalization of the hypergeometric differential equation. We investigate some physical properties of the wavefunction. We then obtain the expectation value of the kinetic and the potential energies, using Hellmann–Feynman theorem. Our work introduc

We examine the expansions of the solutions of the general Heun equation in terms of the Gauss hypergeometric functions. We present several expansions using functions, the forms of which differ from those applied before. In general, the coefficients of the expansions obey three-term recurrence relations. However, there exist certain choices of the parameters for which the recurrence relations become two-term. The coefficients of the expansions are then explicitly expressed in terms of the gamma functions. Discussing the termination of the presented series, we show that the finite-sum solutions

We study the wave equation governing massless fields of all spins (s = 0, [Formula: see text], 1, [Formula: see text] and 2) in the most general spherical symmetric metric of conformal gravity. The equation is separable, the solution of the angular part is a spin-weighted spherical harmonic, and the radial wave function may be expressed in terms of solutions of the Heun equation which has four regular singular points. We also consider various special cases of the metric and find that the angular wave functions are the same for all cases, the actual shape of the metric functions affects only th

We derive exactly solvable potentials from the formal solutions of the confluent Heun equation and determine conditions under which the potentials possess PT symmetry. We point out that for the implementation of PT symmetry, the symmetrical canonical form of the Heun equation is more suitable than its non-symmetrical canonical form. The potentials identified in this construction depend on twelve parameters, of which three contribute to scaling and shifting the energy and the coordinate. Five parameters control the z(x) function that detemines the variable transformation taking the Heun equatio

Abstract:
We consider a family of probability distributions depending on a real parameter and including the binomial, Poisson and negative binomial distributions. The corresponding index of coincidence satisfies a Heun differential equation and is a logarithmically convex function. Combining these facts we get bounds for the index of coincidence, and consequently for Renyi and Tsallis entropies of order 2.

AbstractWe consider the solution of the equation of motion of a classical/quantum spin subject to a monochromatical, elliptically polarized external field. The classical Rabi problem can be reduced to third-order differential equations with polynomial coefficients and hence solved in terms of power series in close analogy to the confluent Heun equation occurring for linear polarization. Application of Floquet theory yields physically interesting quantities like the quasienergy as a function of the problem’s parameters and expressions for the Bloch–Siegert shift of resonance frequencies.

Abstract:
The present paper describes the latest development of an Expert System for the design and optimization of Heat Exchange Networks (HEN). The code described herein, HENEA (acronym for Heat Exchanger Network Expert Assistant) is a Knowledge Based System capable of interacting with a Process Engineer to generate an optimal configuration for a HEN under several different objective functions. Contrary to most of the currently available methods, the code is able to produce such solutions by making explicit use of a set of Second Law Analysis criteria and of some of the basic principles of the “Pinch
