Abstract The coexistence of two or several languages in the same linguistic space will not be deprived of "competition" and conflict. The prototype theory of the situation of conflict has two authors - L. Aracil and R. Ninyoles. The originality of the Catalano-Occitan sociolinguistics bases on the fact that the diglossia is considered a conflict in evolution, complicated by a dilemma and fed by sociolinguistic representations. Generally, these representations are set against the dominated language and favourable, by consequence, against the situation of domination. Having some influence on the mentality and the verbal choice of communicators, these representations usually form an ideological group. The consequence of the diglossic conflict consists in either the linguistic replacement, when the dominant language exercises the functions of the dominated language, or in the linguistic nominalization, which consists in the reconquest by the dominated language of its functions due to the verbal loyalty of the communicators and to the correct linguistic politics. Rezumat Coexistenţa a două sau mai multe limbi în acelaşi spaţiu lingvistic nu va fi lipsită de „competiţie” lingvistică şi de conflict diglosic. Iniţiatorii unei teorii asupra unui prototip de situaţie conflictuală sunt L. Aracil şi R. Ninyoles. Originalitatea sociolingvisticii catalano-occitane rezidă în faptul că diglosia este considerată un conflict în evoluţie, complicat de o dilemă şi alimentat de reprezentări sociolingvistice. În general, reprezentările date sunt opuse limbii dominate şi favorabile, în consecinţă, situaţiei de dominare. Influenţând mentalitatea şi alegerea lingvistică a vorbitorilor, acestea formează, de obicei, un ansamblu ideologic. Consecinţă a conflictului diglosic poate fi sau substituţia lingvistică, când limba dominantă preia funcţiile limbii dominate, sau normalizarea lingvistică, care constă în recucerirea de către limba dominată a tuturor prerogativelor sale, datorită fidelităţii lingvistice a vorbitorilor şi politicii lingvistice corecte.

Cu toate acestea, fundamentul teoretic al disciplinei răm&acirc;ne &icirc;n continuare deschis pentru completări și studii. Chiar dacă avem definiții consacrate termenului &bdquo;pragmatică&rdquo;, unii cerce&shy;tă&shy;tori susțin că nu putem vorbi despre o pragmatică la general, ci despre pragmatici; astfel, &nbsp;delimităm &icirc;ntre o <em>pragma&shy;tică lingvistică</em> și una <em>logică</em>. Categoria gramaticală a modalității, interpretată controversat, este investigată o perioadă &icirc;ndelungată. Acest fapt sugerează necesitatea de a fi elucidate anumite aspecte de ordin conceptual ale categoriei semnalate, lu&acirc;nd &icirc;n considerare actualitatea sa pentru descrierea particularităților și structurii diferitelor limbi, &icirc;n general. This article represents a preliminary study within the project Paremiological items based on religious terms. A special view on Romanian, Spanish, French and Portuguese that I coordinate at the Romance Department of the Institute of Linguistics “Iorgu Iordan – Al. Rosetti”. This type of approach is necessary considering the general tendency in the field to base the contrastive research only on Western Romance data. Furthermore, the proverbs containing religious terms have been only superficially and inconsistently investigated. In this article, I traced back the main issues of a contrastive Romance proverb analysis. I took into account the previous research gains of the field, as well as a multitude of theoretical-conceptual distinctions, such as: proverb items vs. other types of complex structures, like phraseological units; subtypes of proverb units; proverb variants and invariants; proverb lexical variants and border proverb units; the concept of ‘ethnofield’; proverb synonymy in the narrow vs. broad sense; literal vs. conceptual proverb equivalence; interlinguistic proverb variance and proverb heteronimy, etc. All these aspects were considered into the outline of the general project framework.

Abstract The sequences of adjacent vowels in English like in Romanian language evoke a complex problem that views the quantity and the quality of the phonic elements the hiatus consists of. During the process of articulation, one of the vowels loses its syllabic character, being included into a single syllable, with a single muscular tension together with another vowel. One of the features common to Romanian and English spoken languages through which these two differ from the literary language is the unsteady character of the vowels and the vocalic groups. During a thorough research it came out that in both spoken languages sues a general predisposition of simplifying the act of communication. There is a wide spread tendency to avoid the hiatus through the introduction of a supporting element between those two adjacent vowels. In some situations, the supporting element is not only justified but also inevitable. The given article is a synthesized study of the status and the behavior of the vowels in the hiatus in English, as well as some drills of teaching them. Rezumat În limba engleză ca şi în limba română, vocalele limitrofe constitue o problemă complicată. Este vorba de calitatea şi cantitatea elementelor fonice din componenţa hiatului. În timpul articulării, una din vocale îşi pierde caracterul silabic, fiind înglobată într-o singură silabă rostită, cu o singură tensiune musculară împreună cu o altă vocală. Una din trăsăturile caracteristice asemănătoare limbajului englez colocvial şi celui românesc, prin care acestea diferă de limba literară, este caracterul instabil al vocalelor şi al grupurilor vocalice. În cursul cercetărilor, sa precizat că în ambele limbaje acţionează o legitate generală care constă în simplificarea actului de comunicare. Tendinţa larg răspândită este de a evita hiatul prin întroducerea unui element de sprigin între cele două vocale alăturate. În anumite situaţii, elementul de sprigin intervocalic este nu numai justificat , ci şi inevitabil. Articolul este un studiu de sinteză al statutului şi al comportamentului vocalelor în hiat în limba engleză, precum şi privind predarea lor în comparaţie cu diftongii respectivi.

This article analyses the identification features of handwritten texts related to the judicial investigation process. In particular, the gram- matical, lexical-semantic and stylistic features of handwritten texts whose author is unknown have been analysed. In today’s world of developing information technologies, the problem of identifying the author of a text by analysing different parts of a handwritten text is increasing. In order to study the document, it is necessary to have complete and reliable infor- mation about the persons connected with it and its creation, and to use a comprehensive approach. For this reason, when researching manuscript texts, it is permissible to distinguish between general and private signs of identification. When studying handwritten texts, it is possible to deter- mine various information, such as the author’s psychological state, age and type of profession. The forensic examination of manuscripts distinguishes between general and special signs of written language. This makes it possi- ble to determine and evaluate the lexical, grammatical and stylistic characteristics of the author of the text. This helps the expert to discover common aspects about the author.

The debate about scientific dishonesty over the last few years has revealed differences and confusion regarding scientific dishonesty. Every branch of science ought to have well-established criteria for scientific dishonesty, to be able to distinguish between sloppy science and dishonest science. Sc. dishonest behaviour is characterized by being dishonest or reckless, and by twisting the scientific message. The aim of this article is to a) provide a list of criteria to define scientific dishonesty, and b) exemplify and discuss specific linguistic aspects of the discussion. Furthermore it will be argued that agreeing on common rules is not enough as general rules can be interpreted differently. Therefore a common judgement is necessary, i.e. a committee, either local or national. It is recommended that any local institution establishes a committee of their own.

<p>Under inriktningen Grundläggande färdigheter på lärarprogrammet väcktes ett intresse hos mig angående språklig medvetenhet och dess betydelse för barns läs- och skrivinlärning. I det här examensarbetet har det behandlats närmare med hjälp av en empirisk och teoretisk studie. Genom att koppla vad framstående forskare inom språklig medvetenhet anser om vad just språklig medvetenhet är, till hur verksamma pedagoger arbetar och upplever språklig medvetenhet i praktiken, ges en bild av begreppets innebörd och betydelse. Svårigheter, oklarheter och fördelar med begreppet språklig medvetenhet redovisas.</p><p>I examensarbetets teoretiska del framkommer olika definitioner och benämningar av begreppet språklig medvetenhet. Att begreppet är innehållsrikt och svårdefinierat tydliggörs ytterligare i den empiriska delen. Där har även pedagogerna svårt att definiera vad språklig medvetenhet är. Dock upplever pedagogerna att arbetet med språklig medvetenhet medför många vinster vilket även stärks av den teoretiska delen. I många nationella och internationella studier har det framkommit att medveten träning av språklig medvetenhet är av betydelse för barns läs- och skrivinlärning. I det här examensarbetet förtydligas det ytterligare.</p>

<p>With the advent of corpora documenting learner English, a new and interesting field of research has become available. Learner corpora provide a new type of data which can inform thinking both in second language acquisition research and in foreign language teaching research. Analyses of learner corpora normally report on features which are typically ‘overused’ and ‘underused’, when contrasted to comparable native speaker corpora, in addition to those which are ‘misused’ by the learners. Ringbom (1998) conducted a study in which he identified one common aspect of non-native speaker corpora: the high frequency of general nouns, such as people and thing.</p><p>The aim of this paper was to test Ringbom’s findings and attempt to identify how English as a second language learners’ usage of these particular nouns in written production differ from that of native speakers by conducting a corpus comparison of comparable learner and native speaker corpora. The results of this study clearly support Ringbom’s findings; additionally, it was found that the learners’ written production does not appear vaguer and ‘non-native like’ merely because they overuse the general nouns people and thing, but it also seems as if the learners use these nouns in a more restricted range of meanings whereas the natives’ usage is more diversified. Moreover, this study has identified some of the issues that teachers of English as a second language should be aware of when helping their students to avoid using the general nouns people and thing in a non-native like manner.</p>

<p>Denna uppsats avser att kartlägga förekomsten av skorr i det spansktalande Karibien. Dorsala</p><p>realiseringar av fonemet /r/, dvs skorr är ett fenomen som inte är belagt i europeisk spanska. Hur</p><p>kommer det sig? Jag har försökt utröna de möjliga orsakerna till varför bakre /r/ förekommer i</p><p>spanskan i den karibiska övärlden trots att det inte förekommer i standardspanska.</p><p>Uppsatsen har visst fokus på Kuba, men berör också Puerto Rico och Dominikanska</p><p>Republiken. Syftet har varit att försöka hitta en geografisk korrelation mellan olika språk och</p><p>etniska grupper samt förekomsten av skorr i karibisk spanska. Resultaten är inte enhetliga. På</p><p>Puerto Rico verkar skorr ha spritts sedan 1980-talet. På Kuba har fenomenet fått mer</p><p>uppmärksamhet sedan 1970-talet. Beträffande Dominikanska Republiken var underlaget</p><p>bristfälligt och det gick inte att dra säkra slutsatser.</p><p>Enligt befintlig litteratur har fonemet /r/ i Karibien åtminstone sju dorsala</p><p>realiseringar fördelade som följer: [n],[R],[ʁ],[x],[χ],[h]och [ɣ], varav de sista sex här betraktas</p><p>som instanser av skorr. Ibland förekommer skorr i hela områden och ibland fläckvis. Ibland</p><p>korrelerar skorr med någon av hypoteserna, och ibland inte alls.</p><p>Resultaten är inte entydiga, men i stort korrelerar skorr med det faktum att den</p><p>spanska övärlden har haft stora bosättningar av franska och fransk-kreoltalare, de enda grannar</p><p>som konsekvent har skorr i sitt foneminventarium. Ingen annanstans i Spanskamerika har skorr</p><p>belagts.</p>

Syftet med denna undersökning är att belysa 10 utvalda nyord från 2010 års nyordlista. Detta för att ta reda på om det är möjligt att dra slutsatser kring hur orden etablerats sett till användningsfrekvens samt kontext. Den huvudsakliga metoden bestod av korpusundersökningar där användningsfrekvensen för nyorden mättes och de vanligaste kontexterna analyserades. Resultaten från undersökningen visar bland annat att användningsfrekvensen i de flesta fall verkar ha stor betydelse för nyordens etablering. Vidare konstaterades också att olika kontexter i vilka nyorden vanligtvis förekom skapade olika goda chanser för etableringen. Den huvudsakliga slutsatsen jag kom fram till var att användningsfrekvensen ofta spelar en avgörande roll för nyordens etablering även om det finns undantag. Ord kan till exempel vara upptagna i Svenska Akademiens Ordlista trots låg användningsfrekvens i korpusundersökningarna. Ytterligare en slutsats var att kontexterna nyorden generellt förekommer i spelar en viktig roll men att det talade språket likväl tycks kunna vara en anledning till nyordens etablering. Det talade språket kan inte mätas i en sådan här typ av underökning och således orsakas en viss felmarginal.

Preaspiration—the production of glottal friction at the juncture of a vowel and a consonant—appears to be typologically rare but is an areal linguistic feature of Northwestern Europe. This study contains a survey of the known geographical spread of preaspirated stops, their phonological distribution and phonetic expressions in some Nordic dialects. The study also suggests a reconstruction of the phonetics of the Proto-Nordic stop contrasts based on synchronic data as well as a more general framework of historical sound change. Following an introduction (Chapter 1), Chapter 2 deals with the definition and typology of preaspiration presenting a global overview of the known geographical spread of preaspiration. The apparent rarity of preaspiration is considered. Proposed, perceptually based explanations of this rarity are evaluated. Chapter 3 offers a fairly detailed account of the known areal spread of preaspiration in Europe. Stop systems of several dialects in which preaspiration occurs are analysed in terms of voicing conditions. These analyses are based mainly on descriptions provided in the dialectological literature. Chapter 4 presents data on durational variation and other phonetic patterns of stop production in Central Standard Swedish, Tórshavn Faroese, Gräsö Swedish and Western Åland Swedish. The results reveal a greater degree of phonetic variation than has been assumed to date. In particular, speakers of Central Standard Swedish are shown to use preaspiration as a regular feature in their voiceless stop production. In Chapter 5, finally, the results of the data analysis are used in an attempt to reconstruct the phonetic expression of stop contrasts in Proto-Nordic. It is argued that Proto-Nordic stop production was largely similar to the stop production of today’s Central Standard Swedish. As regards phonological structure, however, the Proto-Nordic stop contrasts appear to have been largely preserved in all dialects considered. <p>Den här studien handlar om vilken påverkan omställningen från versaler till gemener har på den tidiga inlärningen av bokstäver i skrift och läsning. Studien handlar även om det pedagogiska material som affärer som tillexempel lågprisvaruhus och bokhandeln säljer och vilken effekt ett material som lekmän utformat har på ett barns inlärning av skrift och läsning. Studien berättar även om vilket pedagogiskt material som förskolan och skolan använder sig av och det materialets påverkan på inlärningen av bokstäver. Den metod som använts är att jag lett gruppdiskussioner där vi arbetat med semistrukturerade frågor för att på det sättet komma djupare in i ämnet. Frågeställningen har varit hur dagens aktiva pedagoger resonerar om versaler (stora bokstäver) och gemener (små bokstäver), dessutom behandlas hur pedagogerna resonerar om elever som blandar versaler och gemener i en mening eller ett ord. Studien visar att användningen av gemener och versaler inte är tillräckligt reflekterad, och därför bara fortsätter av ohejdad vana.</p>

<p>Syftet med denna uppsats är att studera hur blickar och pekningar förhåller sig till barns verbala yttranden. Jag har använt ett videoinspelat material där 8 hörande barn med typisk utveckling mellan 0;8 och 5;10 år interagerar. Ur detta har jag klippt sekvenser som passar min frågeställning, implementerat dem i annotationsprogrammet ELAN, och sedan annoterat och analyserat materialet. Av 77 deklarativa-informativa pekningar i det slutliga materialet fann jag 68 ha den tidigare kända funktionen för denna pekningstyp, att förekomma i en vanlig påståendesats. De återstående 9 hade ett blickmönster som skilde sig från dessa. Jag anser att dessa pekningar tillför yttrandet en betonande funktion. Jag fann även ytterligare 7 pekningar i samband med interrogativa satser som inte är tidigare beskrivna. De följde samma blickmönster som de betonade pekningarna. De slutsatser jag drog var att blickar i kombination med pekningar hos barn kan ha en betonande och en interrogativ funktion.</p>

Abstract:
The present study deals with certain sociocultural and linguistic aspects related to the counties of Harghita, Covasna, and Mureş. Several nationalities live in these counties, and in regions characterized by bilingualism there is a particular linguistic landscape, where speakers use structures from their mother tongue in the second language as well. Second language learning is a dynamic process, and the motivation underlying L2 acquisition is influenced by language learning biases. In general, the official language learning takes place implicitly, given the natural context of daily life. But for people from Harghita, Covasna, and some localities in Mureş County, where speakers rarely use Romanian, but also for students who use it only at school (3-4 hours/week), Romanian can be considered a foreign language. In this context, people who succeed in acquiring the language at a productive level use word-for-word translations from their mother tongue when communicating in Romanian. Socio-cultural contacts may reorganize the language system, thus interference, code switching, borrowings, and linguistic calques can be observed both in written and oral texts because the same person alternatively uses two languages – Hungarian and Romanian –, and linguistic interchanges among bilinguals may include elements of both spoken languages. Furthermore, certain extra-linguistic factors, such as ethnicity, race, social class, sex, or age play a major role in language and language contact research. At the same time, the effectiveness of successful interethnic communication also depends on the mutual knowledge of culture, traditions, and customs.

Abstract:
The presented article focuses on new research opportunities in the field of computational linguistics, especially in the context of video games and artificial intelligence and seeks to bridge the three areas. It provides a general introduction to computational linguistics, which emerged in the 1950s in response to the rapid development of science and technology and introduces the reader to concepts such as natural language processing and natural language understanding. It also explores the connections between computational linguistics and not only artificial intelligence, which greatly aids computers in understanding, interpreting, and generating human language, but also video games. The text highlights the role of artificial intelligence in the video game industry, where it is used, for example, to create dialogues and stories, to interact with players, and to translate and localize video game content. The paper also articulates the challenges and benefits of using AI in video games, including the negative ethical and legal aspects. The author mentions that AI can generate personalized stories and guide the behaviour of game characters, contributing to deeper immersion of players. She also discusses the issue of translating video game text, where AI can be helpful, but the translation produced this way still requires human control to ensure quality and accuracy. In conclusion, the author considers the hypothesis that video games are a practical example of the application of computational linguistics and that this linguistic branch can play a key role in the development of video games to be well-founded but encourages further and more detailed research. Computational linguistics and video games are linked through language that exhibits a tension between natural human and machine artificial language.

Articol se focusează pe îmbunătățirea competențelor lingvistice în limba engleză și încurajarea studenților să învețe independent prin ascultare extensivă. Evidențiază importanța ca studenții să preia controlul asupra experienței lor de învățare, subliniind rolul vital al autonomiei în dezvoltarea competenței lingvistice. Comparând două grupuri de studenți - unul participând la un program structurat focusat pe activități de ascultare extensivă pe o durată de 12 săptămâni și celălalt urmând activități tradiționale de învățare - s-a descoperit că cei angajați în programul de ascultare și-au îmbunătățit semnificativ competențele în limba engleză și autonomia în învățare. Rezultatele subliniază că ascultarea extensivă este o strategie eficientă pentru promovarea competenței lingvistice și a învățării auto dirijate printre studenți, făcând o o componentă esențială a educației lingvistice.

Abstract:
The present article deals with a lexical-semantic analysis of phraseological units related to somatic chromonymy (UFCS). The associations between the terms naming a body part and different chromatic terms lead to a tangible representation, but, in most cases, they only have a figurative meaning, as a result of some metaphorical and metonymic mechanisms. At the base of these phraseological units, there is a motivation that consists of the analogy or correlation between color and the psychological manifestations of emotions, just as, for others, there is a cultural motivation.

Abstract:
The Romanian language has a number of words and expressions that we do not find in the other Romance languages, but which are common to the languages of the Balkan linguistic unit, such as: Albanian, Bulgarian, Hungarian, Turkish, Neo-Greek. The Turkish influence on the Romanian language must have its beginnings during the invasion of the Pecheneg barbarians, Cumans, Tatars, Avars, Hozars. Many words of Turkish origin are attested not only in Romanian, but also in other Balkan languages. Turkisms in the Balkan languages do not all have a common source, but originate from different languages of the Turkic peoples. In the Romanian language, among the Turkish borrowings, the most numerous are those of Ottoman Turkish origin. They penetrated in the language after Moldova and Muntenia in the 15th century came under the suzerainty of the Ottoman Empire. The Turkish influence was felt especially in the everyday lexicon.

The writer Dimitrie Cantemir is the first multilateral personality of modern Romanian culture and literature, a world-renowned encyclopedic personality, the last great humanist, the author of the most important Romanian literary writing. The article is a multi-aspect analysis of the work Viaţa lui Constantin Cantemir by Dimitrie Cantemir. The writer's work is imposed by its documentary, cognitive side, the author insisting on the description and reconstruction of events; the memorialistic character; ways of artistic painting (familiar details, decorative paintings, ceremonial indications, stories and anecdotes interspersed in the body of the work, portraits, direct and indirect narration, etc.) are subject to the flow of memory. Constantin Cantemir's life is not without certain literary qualities and narrative skills.
