Abstract The coexistence of two or several languages in the same linguistic space will not be deprived of "competition" and conflict. The prototype theory of the situation of conflict has two authors - L. Aracil and R. Ninyoles. The originality of the Catalano-Occitan sociolinguistics bases on the fact that the diglossia is considered a conflict in evolution, complicated by a dilemma and fed by sociolinguistic representations. Generally, these representations are set against the dominated language and favourable, by consequence, against the situation of domination. Having some influence on the mentality and the verbal choice of communicators, these representations usually form an ideological group. The consequence of the diglossic conflict consists in either the linguistic replacement, when the dominant language exercises the functions of the dominated language, or in the linguistic nominalization, which consists in the reconquest by the dominated language of its functions due to the verbal loyalty of the communicators and to the correct linguistic politics. Rezumat Coexistenţa a două sau mai multe limbi în acelaşi spaţiu lingvistic nu va fi lipsită de „competiţie” lingvistică şi de conflict diglosic. Iniţiatorii unei teorii asupra unui prototip de situaţie conflictuală sunt L. Aracil şi R. Ninyoles. Originalitatea sociolingvisticii catalano-occitane rezidă în faptul că diglosia este considerată un conflict în evoluţie, complicat de o dilemă şi alimentat de reprezentări sociolingvistice. În general, reprezentările date sunt opuse limbii dominate şi favorabile, în consecinţă, situaţiei de dominare. Influenţând mentalitatea şi alegerea lingvistică a vorbitorilor, acestea formează, de obicei, un ansamblu ideologic. Consecinţă a conflictului diglosic poate fi sau substituţia lingvistică, când limba dominantă preia funcţiile limbii dominate, sau normalizarea lingvistică, care constă în recucerirea de către limba dominată a tuturor prerogativelor sale, datorită fidelităţii lingvistice a vorbitorilor şi politicii lingvistice corecte.

Cu toate acestea, fundamentul teoretic al disciplinei răm&acirc;ne &icirc;n continuare deschis pentru completări și studii. Chiar dacă avem definiții consacrate termenului &bdquo;pragmatică&rdquo;, unii cerce&shy;tă&shy;tori susțin că nu putem vorbi despre o pragmatică la general, ci despre pragmatici; astfel, &nbsp;delimităm &icirc;ntre o <em>pragma&shy;tică lingvistică</em> și una <em>logică</em>. Cea lingvistică, la r&acirc;ndul ei, poate fi divizată &icirc;ntr-o <em>pragmatică a enunțării</em> și una a<em> con&shy;ver&shy;&shy;sației</em>. Categoria gramaticală a modalității, interpretată controversat, este investigată o perioadă &icirc;ndelungată. Acest fapt sugerează necesitatea de a fi elucidate anumite aspecte de ordin conceptual ale categoriei semnalate, lu&acirc;nd &icirc;n considerare actualitatea sa pentru descrierea particularităților și structurii diferitelor limbi, &icirc;n general. Abstract:
This article represents a preliminary study within the project Paremiological items based on religious terms. A special view on Romanian, Spanish, French and Portuguese that I coordinate at the Romance Department of the Institute of Linguistics “Iorgu Iordan – Al. Rosetti”. This type of approach is necessary considering the general tendency in the field to base the contrastive research only on Western Romance data. Furthermore, the proverbs containing religious terms have been only superficially and inconsistently investigated. In this article, I traced back the main issues of a contrastive Romance proverb analysis. I took into account the previous research gains of the field, as well as a multitude of theoretical-conceptual distinctions, such as: proverb items vs. other types of complex structures, like phraseological units; subtypes of proverb units; proverb variants and invariants; proverb lexical variants and border proverb units; the concept of ‘ethnofield’; proverb synonymy in the narrow vs. broad sense; literal vs. conceptual proverb equivalence; interlinguistic proverb variance and proverb heteronimy, etc. All these aspects were considered into the outline of the general project framework.

Abstract:
Abstract The sequences of adjacent vowels in English like in Romanian language evoke a complex problem that views the quantity and the quality of the phonic elements the hiatus consists of. During the process of articulation, one of the vowels loses its syllabic character, being included into a single syllable, with a single muscular tension together with another vowel. One of the features common to Romanian and English spoken languages through which these two differ from the literary language is the unsteady character of the vowels and the vocalic groups. During a thorough research it came out that in both spoken languages sues a general predisposition of simplifying the act of communication. There is a wide spread tendency to avoid the hiatus through the introduction of a supporting element between those two adjacent vowels. In some situations, the supporting element is not only justified but also inevitable. The given article is a synthesized study of the status and the behavior of the vowels in the hiatus in English, as well as some drills of teaching them. Rezumat În limba engleză ca şi în limba română, vocalele limitrofe constitue o problemă complicată. Este vorba de calitatea şi cantitatea elementelor fonice din componenţa hiatului. În timpul articulării, una din vocale îşi pierde caracterul silabic, fiind înglobată într-o singură silabă rostită, cu o singură tensiune musculară împreună cu o altă vocală. Una din trăsăturile caracteristice asemănătoare limbajului englez colocvial şi celui românesc, prin care acestea diferă de limba literară, este caracterul instabil al vocalelor şi al grupurilor vocalice. În cursul cercetărilor, sa precizat că în ambele limbaje acţionează o legitate generală care constă în simplificarea actului de comunicare. Tendinţa larg răspândită este de a evita hiatul prin întroducerea unui element de sprigin între cele două vocale alăturate. În anumite situaţii, elementul de sprigin intervocalic este nu numai justificat , ci şi inevitabil. Articolul este un studiu de sinteză al statutului şi al comportamentului vocalelor în hiat în limba engleză, precum şi privind predarea lor în comparaţie cu diftongii respectivi.

Abstract:
This article analyses the identification features of handwritten texts related to the judicial investigation process. In particular, the gram- matical, lexical-semantic and stylistic features of handwritten texts whose author is unknown have been analysed. In today’s world of developing information technologies, the problem of identifying the author of a text by analysing different parts of a handwritten text is increasing. In order to study the document, it is necessary to have complete and reliable infor- mation about the persons connected with it and its creation, and to use a comprehensive approach. For this reason, when researching manuscript texts, it is permissible to distinguish between general and private signs of identification. When studying handwritten texts, it is possible to deter- mine various information, such as the author’s psychological state, age and type of profession. The forensic examination of manuscripts distinguishes between general and special signs of written language. This makes it possi- ble to determine and evaluate the lexical, grammatical and stylistic characteristics of the author of the text. This helps the expert to discover common aspects about the author.

The debate about scientific dishonesty over the last few years has revealed differences and confusion regarding scientific dishonesty. Every branch of science ought to have well-established criteria for scientific dishonesty, to be able to distinguish between sloppy science and dishonest science. Sc. dishonest behaviour is characterized by being dishonest or reckless, and by twisting the scientific message. The aim of this article is to a) provide a list of criteria to define scientific dishonesty, and b) exemplify and discuss specific linguistic aspects of the discussion. Furthermore it will be argued that agreeing on common rules is not enough as general rules can be interpreted differently. Therefore a common judgement is necessary, i.e. a committee, either local or national. It is recommended that any local institution establishes a committee of their own.

Abstract:
A virtual course of computers architecture is analyses in the present article. A computer-aided set of words for this course is prepared. Results of frequentative analysis, according to methodologies of B. Davey and M. Bauman, show that analyzed text is of average complication. The analysis of usage of new terms shows that the text is not overloaded with unknown terms (only 3,455% of the whole set of words). On the ground of researches ofJ. Mikk and N.I. Gez we can state that the virtual course is not complicated as a student has to soak up 2.5 new terms during one academic hour. After carried out research, according to methodologies of W.S. Gray and B.E. Leary, we found out that too many long words and sentences are used, and this leads to difficulties when soaking up a new material. In summing up we can state that virtual course is of average complication.

Příspěvek se zaměřuje na otázky týkající se statusu filozofie na počátku 21. století – její pozice v oblasti lidského poznání a vymezení jejího vztahu ke speciálněvědním oborům. Akcentuje a mapuje ten rozměr filozofie 20. století, který se obrátil k jazyku a inicioval a formuloval debaty o vědní metodologii a o úloze filozofie při stanovování základů vědeckého poznání (tj. jeho filozofického fundamentu). Modelovým příkladem uvedených otázek bude v příspěvku analýza vývoje vztahu mezi tzv. analytickou filozofií jazyka a lingvistikou: bude stručně vymezena jejich (vzájemná) pozice v procesu poznávání lidského jazyka a řeči a zkoumány možnosti stanovení hranice mezi těmito dvěma přístupy. Zároveň bude charakterizována povaha jejich nepochybných kontaktů a budou diskutovány důvody těchto procesů. V souhlasu s Lakoffovou tezí, že „na filosofii záleží také v akademickém světě, protože pojmové rámce, na nichž jsou založeny celé akademické disciplíny, mají obvykle své kořeny ve filosofii a […] zcela jistě to platí i v [...] lingvistice,“ poukážeme na historicky danou (explicitní či implicitní) filozofickou fundaci lingvistických teorií a nastolíme otázku, co činí tuto fundaci fundací filozofickou, co ji činí předmětem filozofie a co tedy v posledku znamená věnovat se filozofii jazyka (ve vztahu k lingvistickému zkoumání téhož předmětu). Podrobíme analýze hypotetickou odpověď na výše uvedené otázky – do jaké míry představuje filozofii jazyka reflexe/tematizace základních předpokladů o předmětu a metodě zkoumání, kterou provádějí lingvisté, do jaké míry je možné filozofii jazyka redukovat na metodologii lingvistiky a co by se nabízelo jako alternativa k této redukci. Na uvedeném základě se pokusíme vymezit prostor pro filozofické zkoumání související s jazykem. Analýza podoby tohoto prostoru by pak měla přinést odpověď na otázku po významu slovního spojení „specificky filozofický přístup a přínos“.

The article investigates the clarification of the term “cognition” in cognitive linguistics. Firstly, some explanations about the foundation of the cognitive linguistics have been touched about, and then comprehensive information about concepts has been analyzed. The article states that concepts are known to be formed in the process of a human being's perception the world, or realities in it. The ideal contents of the concepts are proved to be used to differentiate them from the language signs that are meant to be material. They refer to our thoughts, in other words the concepts that are observed to exist in a human's brain are considered to carry purely mental character.

Abstract:
In this paper it has been chosen to examine currently accepted principles of “communicative approaches” to second language in the theo-ry of languages. The examination of the theoretical bases has led us to question some of the existing principles, which is consistent with a more comprehensive framework for the consideration of linguistic competence. The general background to linguistic competence is studied by many scien-tists. The notion of “linguistic competence” has been developed for many years and we will suggest some directions for the research that bear either directly to the goal of the research. Linguistic competence is the system of linguistic knowledge possessed and is distinguished from linguistic per-formance. It is the way a language system that is used in communication. Noam Chomsky introduced this concept in his elaboration of generative grammar, where it has been widely adopted and competence is the only level of language that is studied. According to Chomsky, competence is the ideal language system that enables speakers to produce and understand an infinite number of sentences in their language, and to distinguish gram-matical sentences from ungrammatical sentences. In 1970 years the En-glish language was the goal of teaching foreign language. As the linguistic competence is the part of the communicative competence and the scientist as Haims (1972), Kanal and Swan (1980) and Alkon (2000) worked on it in their works.

"The history of Bukovina in general and that of Bukovina during the interwar period in particular dispose of a series of historiographical works intended to highlight the various aspects of political, social, cultural, economic, ethno-linguistic, confessional issues etc. of the former Moldavian province. Some of these works are general, others specific, and many of them succeed to offer a fairly comprehensive image of the elements, processes and phenomena that have influenced the ethno-linguistic and confessional evolution of Bukovina’s population in the interwar period. The specialized articles and studies are distinguished by the great analytical and synthesis capacity of their authors, but the aspects considered by them, although extremely valuable for knowing the international factors which have influenced the evolution of national political processes, overtake only extremely tangentially the particularities of the local communities from different territorial-administrative units which could have influenced, in turn, the evolution or the tendency of certain ethno-linguistic and confessional phenomena and processes which can or could have taken an international amplitude. While many studies succeed to highlight the socio-cultural, inter-ethnic and identity realities of Bukovina during the interwar period, whose contribution to the understanding and evaluation of the international framework is extremely valuable, they do not explicitly aim to contextualize the interethnic and confessional facts and processes during the interwar period in Bukovina. The main objective of this research is to understand the impact of national and international government policies on administrative-territorial changes and, implicitly, on the ethno-linguistic and confessional structure of the Bukovinaʼs population in the interwar period. The research methodology takes into account the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data provided by statistical yearbooks, county, national and international archives, as well as Romanian and foreign historiography on the analysed issues. Therefore, this research aims to highlight the evolution of the ethno-linguistic and confessional structure of the population of Bukovina in the interwar period, as well as the internal and international factors that favoured or, on the contrary, inhibited the physiognomy of Romanian communities and national minorities in this historical space. "

Abstract:
Objective. The objective of the article is to find out the types of motivation for the meaning of a word in English. Methods. The main scientific results are obtained using a complex of both general scientific and special linguistic methods, namely: observation, induction, deduction, hypothesis, analysis, synthesis, comparison, formalization; comparative-historical, typological, structural, functional, constructive, discourse analysis. Results. Motivation is a connection between words that reveals their motivation, which, in turn, is defined as a structural and semantic chracteristics of a word that allows to understand the conditionality of the connection between the meaning (seme) and the sound shell of a word (lexeme) on the basis of the correlation of the word with linguistic and extra-linguistic reality. There are different views on whether the concepts of ‘motivation’ and ‘motivatedness’ are equivalent, but in general they are aimed at understanding the connections between sounds and word meanings. There are five types of motivation in the English language: phonetic, morphological, semantic, grammatical and etymological. Each type of motivation affects the understanding and formation of speech, helping to reveal the structure and functioning of language in communication. We can also distinguish between full and partial motivation. Full motivation occurs when the meaning of the motivating word is fully contained in the meaning of the derived word. Partial motivation occurs when the meaning of the derived word is limited to the meaning of the motivating word. In addition, there is peripheral motivation, which reveals the peripheral lexical meaning of the derived word. The peripheral motivational relations indicate the connection between the derivational base and the derived word in the process of new word formation. It has been found that words can be motivated by both non-derivative and derivative verbs, which affects the structure and meaning of the derived word. Partial motivation is observed in cases where the derived word is based on only one of the components of the motivating word. Advanced polysemy can lead to different meanings of a derived word if it is derived from a polysemous verb. Abstract This happened with few exceptions hold, that philosophy has not enjoyed the attention to linguistics. The statement refers particularly to the field of linguistics, represented by grammar. That is because of the process of accumulation and definitive description of the empirical linguistics, it means the concrete facts which have not yet reached the saturation state necessary to leave the level of perfection and to engage in it’s own research as Eugen Coşeriu said, referring only to the situation in the Romanian language and not only: „Apparently, out of an autonomy desire, poorly understood, many linguistics considered philosophy as vain and useless exercise”. But there is another point of view that share and we can`t do any scientific research without governed by a set of gnoseology principles. Such principles are necessary since they are the guiding rules for any researcher who is forced to take care of them in their activity. If these principles are especially ignored epistemological chances and empirizm possibilities obvious increase. In fact, epistemological principles are necessary and the serious and honest scientist is forced always to report the investigation and practical ideas, in order to keep right and follow the right way, also the appropriate methods of research in finding out and uncovering the applied truth of the subject of his research. Rezumat Aşa s-a creat situaţia că postulatele de bază ale filosofiei ca ştiinţă generală despre realitate nu s-au bucurat de o reflectare cuvenită în cercetările de lingvistică. Aserţiunea dată se referă, în special, la gramatică. Situaţia în cauză s-a creat din lipsa unei descrieri definitive a lingvisticii empirice, când faptele concrete de limbă au fost doar acumulate şi nu descrise profund. În această ordine de idei, Eugen Coşeriu subliniază, referindu-se atât la limba română, cât şi la alte limbi: „Se pare că, dintr-o dorinţă de autonomie prost înţeleasă, mulţi lingvişti considerau filosofia ca un exerciţiu zadarnic şi inutil”. Dar, în acest sens, există şi un alt punct de vedere, la care ne alăturăm şi noi: nu putem face o cercetare ştiinţifică fără ca să nu fim ghidaţi de un set de principii gnoseologice. Aceste principii sunt necesare chiar investigării, deoarece ele sunt nişte reguli de bază pentru orice cercetător, de care acesta trebuie să ţină seama în activitatea sa. Dacă însă aceste principii sunt ignorate, suferă conturul epistemologic şi cel empiric al cercetării. De fapt, respectarea principiilor epistemologice este un fapt absolut necesar unei cercetări, iată de ce orice om de ştiinţă serios şi onest este obligat de a-şi pune în acord una cu alta atât principiile teoretice de investigare, cât şi cele practice, pentru a păstra corectitudine în cercetare.

It was given brief information about the Chinese language and Chinese language communities (from antiquity to the present day) and it was shown the history of the formation of the Chinese language. The oldest monuments of the Chinese language are the inscriptions on the bones and tortoise shells (Jiaguwen), which were used for fortune telling, as well as inscriptions on bronze vessels (Jinwen). In this paper, for the study of hieroglyphic inscriptions on the most ancient artifacts, it is proposed to use a method based on photometry of the investigated surface of the samples and subsequent digital processing of the obtained data on a computer in order to determine the characteristics and parameters of the test sample. To test the method, we used onyx, jasper, and jade specimens, the surface of which is similar to the surface of ancient specimens. Some features of this method for the study of ancient artifacts are noted. The possibility of obtaining reliable results in the study of the most ancient hieroglyphic signs is shown.

U pristupu kajkavskoj lirici Ernesta Fišera autor polazi od fenomena imenovanog kao povratak kući odnosno zavičajnom, materinskom jeziku. Pritom se oslanja na filozofiju jezika Wilhelma von Humboldta i njen utjecaj na suvremenu filozofiju i lingvistiku. Za Fišerovu kajkavsku poetiku značajna je Humboldtova teza da jezik ne valja držati nečim mrtvim i načinjenim već daleko više začinjanjem. Važno mjesto u članku ima relacija Fišer – Galović.

Although the teaching of the English language (as a foreign/second language) is now compulsory in many European countries at the level of primary education, we still lack research-based information about how young school-age pupils learn English in a formal environment and what skills are needed for the development of cognitive and language skills, these findings cannot simply be applied to childhood. The paper will present a longitudinal study, the aim of which is to map the development of foreign language literacy (reading, writing, and listening) in the first two years of formal English language teaching at primary school and to assess the influence of selected cognitive and linguistic abilities, as well as motivational and environmental factors, on individual differences in performances among pupils. Specifically, the contribution will focus on data analysis from the first testing phase, which took place among monolignous Czech 3rd year students. It will then deal in detail with the psychometric properties of selected test tasks.

U ovom se radu analiziraju prenesena značenja leksema iz perspektive kognitivne lingvistike. Cilj je bio usporediti prenesena značenja leksema „faceˮ u engleskom jeziku s njihovim ekvivalentima u hrvatskom jeziku da bi se poduprla tvrdnja da su značenja motivirana konceptualnom metaforom, općim znanjem i metonimijom. Ukupan broj primjera stvara bazu za pojedine generalizacije o sličnostima i različitostima apstraktnih koncepata koji mogu poslužiti u poučavanju leksika u stranom jeziku. Ovo je istraživanje pokazalo da je ta vrsta pristupa vrlo djelotvorna u poučavanju stranih jezika.
