Abstract:
This text is intended to serve as an effective foundation on which to build knowledge in the classroom and at the bedside. Chapters have been ordered to improve the integration of neurochemistry and neuropharmacology with our understanding of the nervous system and to facilitate student grasp of the large sections of knowledge. Major sections are devoted to gross anatomy. The format of each chapter consists of Objectives, Introduction, Overview, and text. Clinical problems have been integrated into the text for self assessment. Detailed additional information has been identified in each chapter for those with a desire to go beyond general knowledge. The need to present the vast array of current knowledge of the nervous system required diagrams of anatomy and histology, including magnetic resonance and computed tomographic images to correlate with basic anatomy. Many concepts are clarified further with figures and the abundant use of color throughout. Sections address the neurologic examination and common disorders for systems and levels, including immunologic and genetic neurologic disorders.

Abstract:
Abstract The Mayo Clinic Internal Medicine Board Review, Twelfth Edition, is the result of the dedicated efforts of Mayo Clinic physicians in multiple specialties whose primary mission is to put the needs of the patient first. The field of internal medicine is constantly changing as science is advanced, and this textbook was written to provide readers with the essential elements for the practice of internal medicine. Readers preparing for the American Board of Internal Medicine Certification and Maintenance of Certification examinations will find the textbook comprehensive and easy to study. Additionally, readers who want a reference or a general knowledge review in internal medicine will find this textbook an important addition to their medical library. The current edition builds on years of knowledge, refinement, and expertise from the Department of Medicine. Chapters have been revised to include the most up-to-date knowledge for the practice of medicine. Two entirely new chapters on physician well-being and hospital internal medicine emphasize the importance of those areas to the practice of internal medicine. All the authors are Mayo Clinic experts primarily focused on caring for patients, and the editors are experienced internists who are expert diagnosticians and medical educators.

Abstract:
While infections have always played an important role in the history of mankind, advances in science and technology as well as rapid globalization have resulted in an unprecedented wave of new and old infections thrust into the limelight. The recent pandemic of H1N1 influenza virus infection demonstrates the recurrent theme of emerging and reemerging pathogens that continue to impact public health and patient care areas. Drug resistance among various organisms (not limited to bacteria) has unfortunately become the expectation and, not infrequently, we have been left with few or no efficacious treatment options, an experience not witnessed in more than 7 decades. Human immunodeficiency virus infection continues to challenge our abilities to provide the desired level of care in most areas of the world. Novel syndromes of infection continue to be defined as newer forms of immunosuppression and the development of unique medical devices become standard practice in all areas of medicine and surgery. For trainees and practitioners in the field of infectious diseases today, these factors mandate intense study to establish an expertise in the field that is required to provide best practices now and beyond. This board review will be pivotal in that education. This book is designed and intended primarily for infectious diseases trainees and practitioners preparing for the infectious disease subspecialty examination of the American Board of Internal Medicine. We believe that this book will also be useful to infectious diseases practitioners as well as general internists and other clinicians who desire a comprehensive but practical overview of contemporary infectious diseases topics.

Abstract:
Mental health conditions are prevalent in primary care and general medical settings. Health care policy organizations recommend routine mental health screening, but the screening tools most often used in medical settings do not meet medical providers’ clinical needs and have had little impact on patient outcomes. The Quick PsychoDiagnostics Panel (QPD Panel) is a computerized, fully automated mental health assessment test designed to meet the specific real-world needs of busy medical providers. It screens for 11 common mental health conditions and provides actionable information for treatment decisions. The QPD Panel is self-administered by patients, typically in the clinic waiting room using a tablet device. Providers immediately receive a computer-generated, chart-ready assessment report. The QPD Panel achieves high physician and patient acceptance in real-world clinical use. This chapter describes the benefits of the QPD Panel in primary and integrated care medical settings and discusses its rationale and development.
