Abstract This study was initiated to elucidate the complete genomic structures of type XV collagen in man and mouse and the functional properties of their promoters, as well as to obtain knowledge of the biological role of type XV collagen during development and maturity using immunofluorescence and transgenic techniques. Quantum technology has made great strides in the last two decades with trapped ions demonstrating all the necessary building blocks for a quantum computer. While these proof of principle experiments have been demonstrated, it still remains a challenging task to scale these experiments down to smaller systems. In this thesis I describe the development of technology towards scalable cryogenic ion trapping and quantum hybrid systems. I first discuss the fundamentals of ion trapping along with the demonstration of ion trapping on a novel surface electrode ion trap with a ring shaped architecture.

In this work we solve two new matrix models, using standard and new techniques. The two models are based on matrix ensembles not previously considered. They are represented by special forms of antisymmetric matrices and are classified in the DIII generator ensemble. It is shown that, in the double scaling limit, their free energy has the same behavior as previous models describing oriented and unoriented surfaces. High-order Harmonic Generation (HHG) is an extreme nonlinear process that can be intuitively understood as the sequence of 3 steps: i) tunnel ionization of the target atom/molecule, creating an electronic wave packet (EWP) in the continuum, ii) acceleration of the EWP by the strong laser field and iii) recombination to the core with emission of an attosecond burst of XUV coherent light.
