Abstract:
The tradition of “biographies of eminent monks”, kōsōden, was adopted by Japanese Buddhist masters from China and developed in various works, including collections of setsuwa tales. There are three components in monastic biographies: the path of the Buddha, retraced by his follower; the role of the monk in the history of the country; ascetic experience, which allows to assign the monk to one of the categories within the community (exegete of the Buddha teaching, miracle worker, merciful helper to the suffering living beings etс.). The genre of biographies partly overlaps with other genres: tales about miracles and about posthumous retribution; the same story, depending on the context, may shift toward one of these genres. “Genkō Era Buddhist History” (“Genkō Shakusho”, 1322) contains about 400 biographies of monks, which are divided in several categories. What categories turned out to be the most extensive in this text – in particular, the biographies of miracle workers – allows us to make some assumptions about the sources the compiler used or at least took into account. One of these sources was “Anthology of Tales from the Past” (“Konjaku monogatari-shū”, 1120s). This collection of setsuwa tales showcases the structure of biographies as they differ from texts of related genres based on several series of examples. In turn, a number of stories included in this collection trace back to “Miraculous Tales of the Lotus Sutra” (“Hokke Genki”, 1040s). A comparison of the two texts shows how, with a change in context, the tale about a miracle can become the tale about of a person who experienced a miracle, that is, acquire the features of a life story.

Przedmiotem artykułu są ekfrastyczne reprezentacje postaci i malarstwa Epifaniusza Drowniaka oraz Genko Ivana Genkova (nazywanego „Genką-wariatem”), funkcjonującew rejestrach literackich, krytycznych i publicystycznych. Rewelatorska twórczość, traumatyczne biografie obu artystów posiadają potencjał legendotwórczy; byli oni podobnie stygmatyzowani, wykluczani przez swoją odmienność. W ustrojowych warunkach powojennych Polski i Bułgarii podlegali licznym deprecjacjom jako kłopotliwi politycznie Łemko i dysydent, podczas gdy ich obrazy uchodziły za paszporty tych krajów do światowej sztuki. Ekfrastyczne i hypotypiczne uobecnienia malarstwa, osobowości („sur une idée du tableau”, „sur une image de l’artiste”) Nikifora i Genkova są w artykule podstawą analizy porównawczej i interpretacji m. in. w aspektach wykluczenia, transgresji, performansu.

Abstract:
Japanese gentō (originally a translation of the English term “magic lantern”) is a still-image projection system that enlarges images on a transparent slide or film and projects them onto a large screen. Most studies argue that the magic lantern, stereopticon, or gentō thrived from the seventeenth to the nineteenth centuries and that their use declined in the early twentieth century with the arrival of the motion picture. This article examines the revival and redevelopment of gentō in mid-twentieth-century Japan, focusing on its use in 1950s social movements (including labor, social welfare, and political protest movements) and exploring how independent gentō works represented the landscapes, histories, and everyday lives threatened by the presence of U.S. military forces in Japan. It also examines the representation of female gender and sexuality in these gentō works, looking at the ways they depict women as both symbols of a victimized and humiliated homeland and as threats to the order of paternalistic family and society in Japan.

This study aims to examine the textbook “Genki I: An Integrated Course in Elementary Japanese” in terms of cultural elements. The data of this qualitative research were collected by means of the document review method. Content analysis, one of the qualitative analysis techniques, was used in the evaluation of the research data. A second coding was carried out by a second researcher to ensure the reliability of the study. The categories in the study were formed in the line of the cultural product, thought and behavior classifications developed by Tomalin & Stempleski (1993). In addition, the tools for cultural instruction, as taught by Qu (2010), Frank (2013), Peterson & Coltrane (2003), have helped to create the relevant codes. In comparison of the cultural elements in the textbook “Genki I: an Integrated Course in Elementary Japanese”, this study found that the textbook emphasizes more on the elements related to behavioral dimension of the culture, but does not give much room for the elements related to belief dimension. Also, the textbook “Genki I: an Integrated Course in Elementary Japanese” was observed to use the device of “describing and explaining the culture”, at most.

The Genki Tosaben Musical (Genki), an annual theatre production started in 1996, has foreigners in Kochi Prefecture staging an original musical in Tosaben, the local Japanese dialect. Once the show is ready, the troupe tours the prefecture to promote grassroots cultural exchange. In 2020, the musical was canceled due to COVID-19 restrictions. In response, the organizers transformed the musical theatre production into an online video created using Zoom and remote actors. This paper discusses qualitative data gathered from interviews with the key players (director/writer, producer, lead actor, and video editor) conducted before and after the production. The interviewees discussed their motivations for participation and the effect the experience had on their Japanese language learning and community integration in Kochi. They stated that Genki was important for forming connections within the local community, with both Japanese and non-Japanese, as well as increasing their Japanese ability. However, while a positive experience, online video was less effective than live theatre for achieving these goals. Abstract:
AbstractThe stratigraphic reinterpretation of the palynologically analysed Miocene succession of the Wijshagen borehole along the southern margin of the North Sea Basin allowed an age assessment – late Burdigalian to early Serravalian – for the Genk Sand Member of the Bolderberg Formation. The depositional environment varied during Burdigalian to Serravalian times from continental (peat formation) to open marine (glauconitic sands), respectively from south to north in the Roer Valley Rift System. The study area of the Wijshagen borehole is located in the central part of the Roer Valley Rift System between these extreme environments. During the Burdigalian, the glauconitic fine clayey sands of the Houthalen Sand Member were deposited in the study area. From the late Burdigalian onwards, the glauconite content decreased and lignite content increased as a result of high influx of clastic material in the Roer Valley Rift System, and marked the start of the deposition of the Genk Sand Member. The Genk Sand Member shows an overall coarsening-upwards trend, which is consistent with the gradual infill of the available accommodation space in the Roer Valley Rift System by northwest-prograding clastic delta sequences. Dinoflagellate cyst analyses indicate that the Genk Sand Member was largely deposited in a marginal marine environment with only short pulses of continental input. These pulses of continental input increase in a southerly or landward direction where they led to the development of thick lignite seams.

Abstract:
The Oligocene Eigenbilzen Formation and Miocene Bolderberg Formation were studied along the Albert Canal in the southern Genk municipality, eastern Belgium. Previous studies have subdivided the Eigenbilzen Formation into geophysical subunits based on borehole logs. Correlations of borehole logs with a deep Cone Penetration Test reveal that this subdivision is also geotechnically distinct. The Eigenbilzen Formation is unconformably overlain by the Houthalen Member (lower Bolderberg Formation), which holds a late Burdigalian age according to the dinoflagellate cyst analyses on borehole samples by this study. The average glauconite, organic and carbonate content of the Houthalen Member in the study area is 8.2%, 0.5% and 3%. Within the Houthalen Member, we distinguished two different geotechnical CPT and lithological facies, herein referred to as clayey and sandy facies. Granulometric analyses indicate that both facies are dominated by fine sands, however, with the sandy facies having an average 5.1% fine fraction (<63 µm), and the clayey facies 18.8%. The clayey facies is very distinct, whereas the sandy facies is geotechnically and granulometrically similar to the superjacent Genk Member (upper Bolderberg Formation). Besides carbonate content, the main difference between the sandy Houthalen Member and the Genk Member is the larger glauconite content of the first. As the glauconite content decreases upwards in the sandy Houthalen Member, it transitions into the Genk Member. Along the 3.6 km long correlation panel, the clayey Houthalen Member thins from over six meters in the southeast towards less than one meter in the northwest, which highlights the sedimentological complexity within the unit.

Abstract:
The release of a new edition of the widely used Japanese textbook Genki has been widely anticipated. While most of the changes are subtle and aesthetic, there are noticeable improvements, especially in the efforts taken to better represent the diversity of the Japanese learner population. However, the textbook's unsystematic treatment of vocabulary and grammar reflect a teaching philosophy that, already dated when the first edition was published twenty years ago, has only drifted further from the field of second language pedagogy. The disjointed treatment of literacy and oracy skills make it difficult to understand what is "integrated" about the course it provides. Great teaching can still be achieved using Genki, but it will require considerable creativity on behalf of teachers, especially those concerned with demonstrating how progress through the textbook aligns with measurable outcomes or gains in proficiency.

Abstract:
As consumer attitudes change towards healthy consumption, this has led to the development of the healthy beverage industry. Genki Forest’s sugar-free beverages are the leading product in this industry. Therefore, this paper focuses on studying and analyzing the marketing strategies of the Chinese soft drink brand Genki Forest in the current consumer environment. Research data in recent years has shown that traditional carbonated beverages in China have failed to meet consumer demand and have shown negative growth for three consecutive years. In a consumer environment where the conventional beverage industry is gradually falling out of favor, the emergence of Genki Forest diet soft drinks has broken this trend. The brand uses new media as its primary marketing strategy, focusing on Japanese moe culture, aligning with today’s youth’s collective aesthetic and consumption tendencies. However, the brand’s use of disinformation for promotion can lead to a loss of brand credibility. Therefore, a detailed analysis of the brand’s marketing strategy will help understand today’s current situation and trends in the soft drinks industry. This paper uses secondary data as the primary research data and comprehensive analysis of the brand. These analyses have concluded that the brand’s marketing strategy is forward-looking and innovative. It is closely aligned with modern Internet thinking to achieve a marketing approach more in line with the preferences of today’s youth. At the same time, the brand has chosen to use online e-commerce platforms as the primary sales channel to effectively avoid the traditional sales methods of the beverage industry to occupy the conventional market.

This research in entitled “The Social Aspects of the Main Characters in Mahou Hakase Short Stories”. The purpose of this research is to know the social aspects including habitus, capital, domain, and practice of the main character named Genko Sensei in the short story of Mahou Hakase by Iwaya Sazanami. The theory used is the theory of literary sociology popularized by Pierre Bourdieu regarding habitus, capital, domain, and practice. This research uses descriptive qualitative research methods as well as data collection by referring to and taking notes. The data used in the form of paragraphs, sentences, and dialogs in the short story. The results of this study found 38 sosial aspects including 7 habitus, 11 capital, 4 domains, and 16 practices owned by Genko Sensei. Habitus that he had was a good relationship, considered to be good and honest, and able to change bad habits into good. This he combined with capital held in the form of money, a college degree, public speaking skills, do not hesitate to act, confident, good cooperation skills and magic abilities. By utilizing the habitus and capital, Genko Sensei able to do a lot of practice (such as lingers though without legs, grow horns to fight the enemy, and others) to master the realm of Germany, the University, and the Palace. In the end, he was able to become famous, get a degree, defeat the enemy, gain power by winning the hearts of the King at the palace, and received a lot of gifts. Above aligned with Pierre Bourdieu's theory about the relationship habitus, capital, and domains, resulting in practice to seize power.

Abstract:
In light of official reports indicating a still prevalent tendency to masculinized obesity and overweight in Japan (Ministry of Health Labour and Welfare, 2015), this article explores the experiences of 28 Japanese men grappling with bodyweight control. Aged between 24 and 67, 3 of the men were postgraduate or undergraduate students, 7 self-employed, 17 company workers and 1 retired. Fourteen hold a university degree, 1 completed senior high school and 10 finished 3-year junior college. Twelve were married and 16 were single. Ten of the participants have been requested to lose weight because of being at risk of developing metabolic diseases, the rest have been called “chubby” ( debu) and all of them have unsuccessfully tried to lose weight. A set of two, in-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted with each participant in Tokyo and Osaka in June and July 2015, 2016, and 2017. Grounded in symbolic interactionism, the interview analysis allows for a reading of the participants’ embodied subjectivity in line with three axes: autodidact self, gendered self, and emotional self. The article highlights how the feminization of care has an effect on the participant’s daily interactions. In conclusion, the article underscores the salience of “emotional attachment” to food (Lupton, 1998, p. 158), the “emotionalization” of food consumption and the emotionalization of the “fat body” in understanding their experiences dealing with corpulence in a country where slimness appears to be “ethnicized.”

Abstract:
Профессор А.Н. Professor A.N. Genko is known as the largest Russian linguist, ethnographer, and specialist in the history and ethnography of the indigenous peoples of the Caucasus, as a man of outstanding abilities that allowed him to be fluent in almost thirty languages. As part of the All-Union Central Committee of the New Alphabet at the Presidium of the Council of Nationalities of the USSR Central Executive Committee, he created alphabets for the non-written languages of the Caucasus – Tsakhur, Lezgi, Tabasaran, Abkhaz, Rutul, Khinalug. Genko also became a compiler of dictionaries and grammar. The scientist is considered the first researcher of the Abaza, Ubykhs, Khinalugs, Tsakhurs. The article concludes that a linguist of such a high level used his linguistic knowledge for an in-depth study of the ethnography of the peoples whose language he mastered. This is confirmed by the facts of the scientist's work biography, which combined activities in linguistic and ethnographic institutions: the Research Institute for the Comparative Study of Literatures and Languages of the West and the East at Petrograd University, the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences, where in the 30s Genko was in charge of the Cabinet of the Caucasus, the Japhetic Institute, the Cabinet of the Caucasus at the Institute of Ethnography of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Lectures of Genko for students of Leningrad State University (Introduction to the course of ethnography of the Caucasus) allow us to consider him a specialist in other ethnic groups of the Caucasus, in particular on the Ossetians. The purpose of the article is to analyze a special lecture on Ossetians, the text of which is presented in this publication, and the information provided by it on a wide range of ethno-cultural issues in the remaining 19 lectures of the course. The article analyzes the material about the Ossetians contained in the lectures, notes the advantages and inaccuracies in them. The above source allows us to assess Genko's contribution to the problems of Ossetian studies: ethnogenesis, material and spiritual culture of the Ossetians.

Abstract:
Abstract Numerous Japanese export objects arrived in Europe from the beginning of the Meiji era (1868-1912), giving rise to the phenomenon of Japonisme and the collections of works of art that today form part of several museums. This article analyses an exceptional set of twenty-one pieces of Kutani porcelain (Japan) from the Joaquín Soria collection in the Museo de Artes y Costumbres Populares in Seville. These pieces are decorated with different episodes from the Genji Monogatari, the great classic work of Japanese literature, which follows the designs of the ukiyo-e print artist Ogata Gekkō (1859-1920). The scenes depicted on the ceramics derive from the serie Fifty-four Chapters of the Genji, produced between 1892 and 1895 in Tokyo. This group of Kutani pieces shows that Meiji-era ukiyo-e prints formed part of the decorative repertoire of Japanese porcelain, projecting an image of Japan based on its rich literary and cultural tradition. Abstract:
Songs can be a means of communication that singers and songwriters want to convey to listeners about what they feel. In songs, there are song lyrics which are part of literary works which contain outpourings of personal feelings, emotions, and expressions of soul experiences in the form of an arrangement of words. One of them is the song lyrics on the album Naura & Genk Juara. The lyrics on the album contain many implied meanings, so analysis is needed using Schleimacher's Hermeneutics theory which is used to understand the meaning of the song from the psychology of the song writer. The aim of the research is to describe, analyze and interpret the psychology of the song lyrics on the album Naura & Genk Juara. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. Data collection techniques include (1) listening to the song carefully, (2) noting the song lyrics carefully, (3) understanding the psychological aspects of the song. Data analysis uses Schleirmacher's hermeneutical approach. The results of the research show that Schleilmacher's psychological interpretation on the album song Naura & Genk Juara describes enthusiasm and never giving up on being a champion, parents' anxiety about their children, preserving nature, annoyance with friends, motivation for having dreams, regrets for children who don't listen to their parents' advice, optimism about being a winner, and friendship. At the psychological interpretation stage, it can be seen that the lyrics he wrote were created from phenomena that were occurring at that time, many Indonesian children were not mentally strong enough to face challenges in achieving their dreams, so lyrics emerged that provided motivation, besides that, many Indonesian children who do not want to listen to advice from their parents, causing regret.

Abstract:
Interest in talent identification and the development of professional footballers has markedly increased in the past decade. Research in football has primarily focused on individual development and external factors affecting performance. In other sports, research from a holistic and ecological approach has examined successful environments, suggesting that such environments are not only unique, but also share features. Using a single case study design and a holistic ecological approach, this study investigated the youth department of the Belgium elite club KRC Genk (the Jos Vaessen Talent Academy). Results suggest that this environment, in many regards, is consistent with the shared features found in other successful environments in other sports (such as support of sporting goals by the wider environment and support for long-term development). However, three features were also observed as unique. These were (a) cultural awareness, openness, and sharing of knowledge; (b) the club’s ability to accommodate a broad diversity of players in the academy; and (c) an openness toward new ideas and learning on all levels of the organization. Collectively, our results indicate that Genk, in some respects, not only shares features with successful environments in other sports, but also bears unique features.

This study aims to describe and analyze the phenomenon of Dangdut Koplo Music Culture on Tiktok Media, especially in the account posts belonging to the boyband "NCT Dream" which contain Mendungdut Tanpo Udan dancing and accompanied by background music from the band "Ndarboy Genk" in the view of cross-cultural communication. The results of this study are that in this phenomenon there has been a process of cross-cultural communication, there are also characteristics of cultural globalization from David Held's theory, namely the expansion of social relations (Stretched Social Relations) and increased intensity of communication (Intensification of Flows), and there is a theory Culture from EB Taylor where "NCT Dream" has gained knowledge, artistry, and skills in dangdut koplo music culture, especially dancing and the song "Mendung Tanpo Udan" from various media, especially from the TikTok account "Ndarboy Genk" so that they become part of Indonesian society.
