Objectives of the first part of research program were the effect of some environmental and physiological aspects on the intensity of flavonoid synthesis. The trial was carried out during the 2011 growing season in the commercial vineyard of the Plantaze, Podgorica (Montenegro). Two grapevine cultivars were compared: Vranac and Cabernet Sauvignon. The following experimental treatments were compared: early leaf removal (flowering time), cluster thinning (veraison time) and combination of both treatments. When testing nine different sunflower cultivars in 32 South African environments (location x year), an Additive Main Effects and Multiplicative Interaction analysis (AMMI) identified sizeable genotype by environment (GxE) interaction. The first two Interaction Principal Components Axes (IPCA1 and IPCA2) were highly significant (p<0.001), but all the factors responsible for the GxE interaction could not be identified, as the causes of interaction seems to be of complex nature. In New Zealand, a formal tree improvement and breeding programme for Pinus radiata (D.Don) commenced in 1952. A countrywide series of progeny trials was progressively established on over seventy sites, and is managed by the Radiata Pine Breeding Company (RPBC). Diameter at breast height data from the series were used to investigate genotype x environment interaction with a view to establishing the need for partitioning breeding and deployment efforts for P. radiata. The ability of rainbow trout to efficiently utilize plant-based diets for growth and the genetic variation for that trait have not been thoroughly examined. In this study, growth of a pedigreed population from the commercial Kamloop strain was assessed while feeding plant-based or traditional fishmeal-based diets.
