Abstract:
When the Baltimore Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church issued a pastoral letter critical of St. Mary's College in 1811 it provided an opportunity for Louis DuBourg, the college's president, to respond with an apologetic defense of the college and of Catholicism more generally. In doing so he synthesized several strands of Catholic apologetics, including the via notarum, the utilitarianism that came to dominate French Catholic apologetics in the eighteenth century, the emphasis upon beauty and emotion that characterized Chateaubriand's Genuius of Christianity, and the earlier work of Bishop Bossuet critical of the doctrinal instability of protestantism. Aimed at a popular audience, DuBourg's apologetics created an identity for the American Catholic Church that emphasized its place within the largest part of worldwide Christianity, its role as educator of the best minds of Western civilization, and the beauty of its worship.

Abstract:
The present review gives an overview about natural products from the holoparasitic genus Orobanche (Orobanchaceae). We cover both genuine natural products as well as compounds sequestered by Orobanche taxa from their host plants. However, the distinction between these two categories is not always easy. In cases where the respective authors had not indicated the opposite, all compounds detected in Orobanche taxa were regarded as genuine Orobanche natural products. From the about 200 species of Orobanche s.l. (i.e., including Phelipanche) known worldwide, only 26 species have so far been investigated phytochemically (22 Orobanche and four Phelipanche species), from 17 Orobanche and three Phelipanche species defined natural products (and not only natural product classes) have been reported. For two species of Orobanche and one of Phelipanche dedicated studies have been performed to analyze the phenomenon of natural product sequestration by parasitic plants from their host plants. In total, 70 presumably genuine natural products and 19 sequestered natural products have been described from Orobanche s.l.; these form the basis of 140 chemosystematic records (natural product reports per taxon). Bioactivities described for Orobanche s.l. extracts and natural products isolated from Orobanche species include in addition to antioxidative and anti-inflammatory effects, e.g., analgesic, antifungal and antibacterial activities, inhibition of amyloid β aggregation, memory enhancing effects as well as anti-hypertensive effects, inhibition of blood platelet aggregation, and diuretic effects. Moreover, muscle relaxant and anti-spasmodic effects as well as anti-photoaging effects have been described.

One species,P. graveliPackernew speciesis described; the second species,P. aenigma(Packer)new combination, originally placed inChilicolaSpinola, 1851 subgenusChilioediscelisToro and Moldenke, 1979, is designated as the type species. The new genus is superficially most similar toXenochilicolaToro and Moldenke, 1979 but possesses none of the derived characteristics that were originally used to define that genus. Results of a phylogenetic analysis, based upon 114 morphological characters, are presented and suggest that the new genus is the sister clade to (GeodiscelisMichener and Rozen, 1999 +XeromelissaCockerell, 1926). An illustrated key is provided for the genera of Xeromelissinae and for the two species ofPatagonicola.

Abstract: The right application of Directive 96/71 requires the identification of genuine posting. To this aim the criteria laid down by Directive 2014/67 are insufficient. The article frames the concept of genuine posting building upon the defining characteristics of posting: temporality, the maintenance of the employment relationship with the home country employer, and the link with the transnational provision of services. The main practical implication is that the authorities of the host country can impose the full application of its employment law when they find that the posting is not genuine. Keywords: posting of workers; law applicable to the individual employment contract; freedom to provide services; law of the European Union.

Abstract:
Six species of the weevil genus Orchidophilus Buchanan are recognized: O. epidendri (Murray) comb. n. (=Acythopeus genuinus Pascoe syn. n., =Baris orchivora Blackburn syn. n., =Apotomorhinus orchidearum Kolbe syn. n.), O. aterrimus (Waterhouse), O. eburifer (Pascoe) comb. n. (=Acythopeus gilvonotatus Barber syn. n.), O. peregrinator Buchanan, O. ran Morimoto and O. insidiosus Prena sp. n. These species appear to be native to Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Singapore but are dispersed frequently with orchid cultivars by global trade. Orchidophilus aterrimus has been intercepted most frequently and now is established in several Indo-Pacific regions outside its native range. Nearly as common as, and occasionally confused with, the former is O. epidendri. Orchidophilus ran is of some significance in Japan and Korea, while O. peregrinator, O. eburifer and O. insidiosus were intercepted occasionally at scattered locations before 1970. An identification key for the six species is provided. Lectotypes are designated for Baridius aterrimus Waterhouse, Acythopeus genuinus Pascoe, Baris orchivora Blackburn and Apotomorhinus orchidearum Kolbe; a neotype is designated for Centrinus epidendri Murray.

Peticca, Marcella. "Genuis loci: Perdita e riscoperta del luogo." Master's thesis, Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna, 2015. http://amslaurea.unibo.it/9702/.

Full text
Abstract:

Ediev, Dalkhat. "Mortality compression in period life tables hides decompression in birth cohorts in low-mortality countries." Sapienza University of Rome, 2013. http://dx.doi.org/10.4402/genus-451.

Full text
Abstract:
The rapid increase in human longevity has raised important questions about what implications this development may have for the variability of age at death. Earlier studies have reported evidence of a historical trend towards mortality compression. However, the period life table model, commonly used to address mortality compression, produces a compressed picture of mortality as a built-in feature of the model. To overcome this limitation, we base our study on an examination of the durations of exposure, in years of age, of birth cohorts and period life tables to selected short ranges of the death rate observed at old age. Overall, old-age mortality has been decompressing, cohort-wise, since the 1960s. This process may further indicate good prospects for ever-decreasing mortality. In the future, deaths may not be concentrated within a narrow age interval, but will instead become more dispersed, though at ever later ages on average.

Abstract:
In this paper, we assess the role of policies aimed at regulating the number and age structure of elections on the size and age structure of five European Academies of Sciences. We show the recent pace of ageing and the degree of variation in policies across them and discuss the implications of different policies on the size and age structure of academies. We also illustrate the potential effect of different election regimes (regimens? types?) (fixed vs. linked) and age structures of elections (younger vs. older) by contrasting the steady-state dynamics of different projections of Full Members in each academy into 2070 and measuring the size and age-compositional effect of changing a given policy relative to a status quo policy scenario. Our findings suggest that academies with linked intake (i.e., where the size of the academy below a certain age is fixed and the number of elections is set to the number of members becoming that age) may be a more efficient approach to curb growth without suffering any aging trade-offs relative to the faster growth of academies electing a fixed number of members per year. We further discuss the implications of our results in the context of stable populations open to migration.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to examine how a particular niche in tourism can attract international visitors to a certain destination. To do this, the Swedish food culture was used as a tool to find out how it is marketed to attract international visitors to Sweden. International visitors today wants to find destinations with a rich culture, authentications and traditions to get closer to the destinations identity. The study examines how three of the biggest companies, who works with the promotion of Sweden to an international audience, using the Swedish food culture as a marketing tool. We find that the visitor would like to get closer to the Swedish identity, which the Swedish food culture helps with.

Abstract:
Fem psykoterapeuter deltog i kvalitativa intervjuer.

Michael, Feuerstein. "Genuine Use of Trade Marks." Thesis, Uppsala universitet, Juridiska institutionen, 2018. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:uu:diva-353255.

Full text
Abstract:
Pursuant to the European legislation it is required to use a registered trade mark genuinely. However, it does not directly follow from that legislation what exactly does the term “genuine use” represents. Finding of the proper meaning of the concept of genuine use requires profound analysis of the case-law of the CJEU which has made many comments to this issue in dozens of its decisions. Since these decisions usually deal with different specific questions relating to the concept of genuine use, the relevant case-law seems fragmented. However, putting these decisions together, it is possible to get fairly clear idea about the concept and what it requires. Therefore, this thesis provides its reader with a complex description and analysis of the concept of genuine use within the EU and its interpretation as presented by the CJEU. Besides, the thesis clarifies certain procedural aspects connected with the concept of genuine use, namely these related to proving of genuineness of a use of a trade mark and also these related to utilization of the concept of genuine use in various trade mark proceedings. Finally, the thesis analyses the relationship between the concept of genuine use and trade mark licenses.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
In our study we analyzed viral RNA in bat fecal samples from Moscow region (Zvenigorod district) collected in 2015. To detect various virus families and genera in bat fecal samples we used PCR amplification of viral genome fragments, followed by high-throughput sequencing. Blastn search of unassembled reads revealed the presence of viruses from families Astroviridae, Coronaviridae and Herpesviridae. Assembly using SPAdes 3.14 yields contigs of length 460–530 b.p. which correspond to genome fragments of Coronaviridae and Astroviridae. The taxonomy of coronaviruses has been determined to the genus level. We also showed that one bat can be a reservoir of several virus genuses. Thus, the bats in the Moscow region were confirmed as reservoir hosts for potentially zoonotic viruses.

Abstract:
Surface topography decomposition used to identify the components of the machined surface is an important method for tracing machining errors and predicting surface performance. This paper presents a generalized and practical method to fulfill the surface topography decomposition by wavelet reconstruction and Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD). Firstly, by choosing suitable base function, wavelet transformation technique was applied for surface decomposition to get surface components in different level, with some levels containing uncertain information, indicating that wavelet transform was not an ideal method to get genuine components of machined surface. EMD was applied for further decomposition, EMD can obtain genuine components of surface, mode mixing occurred when surface contained noise and impulse. A hybrid method combining the merits of wavelet and EMD was proposed to eliminate noise and impulse in surface, then genuine components of surface was obtained. Finally, the proposed method was applied to a measured 1-D surface, and its genuine components were gotten respectively. Further Fourier Transform was used to confirm the result which indicates that proposed method can correctly get genuine components of the machined surface. The method proposed in this article will give a practical guidance for surface components analysis and provide a base for further study such as tracing processing and predicting performance of surface according its components.
