Abstract:
Geo-composites are generally made by hybridizing of some components among geo-textile, geo-grid, geo-membrane, geo-net, and other materials. Due to practical applicability of geotechnical structures, the demand of geo-composites, especially for drainage application, has gradually increased. In the present study, the geo-composites bonded with geo-grid in chemical process were investigated experimentally in terms of strain evaluation and creep response values. Geo-grid plays an important role as a reinforcing material. Three kinds of geo-grid were prepared as strong yarn polyester and they were woven type, non-woven type, and wrap knitted type. The sample geo-grids were then coated with PVC. The rib tensile strength tests were conducted to evaluate geo-grid products in terms of tensile strength with regard to single rib. The test was performed according to GRI-GGI. The test results revealed that the tensile strains at the maximum tensile strength showed very good tensile deformation characteristics in the range of 10.0-13.0% in terms of mono-rib performance. Any significant trends have not found between warp knitted and woven type geo-grid in terms of the tensile strength ratios. Further experimental analysis has been conducted to investigate the wide-width strip tensile strength, contact point strength and creep features of the geo-grid samples used in this study. It was concluded again from the experiments that the tensile and creep strains of the geo-grid showed so stable values that the geo-grid prepared in this study could protect geo-textile partially in practical structure.

Abstract:
For the geo-grid reinforced retaining wall, the reinforcement mechanism of seismic behavior is unclear, and there is no reasonable standard for seismic design. A non-linear finite difference method which is based on Lagrange method was applied to analyze internal reinforcement force of geo-grid under different design parameters. The elastic-plastic model is simulated to backfill soil and foundation, and the coupled elastic parameters are used to describe the interaction of soil and geo-grid. The design parameters include geo-grid reinforcement spacing, reinforcement length, backfill soil stiffness, and thickness of panel. Some distribution characters and sensitive parameters to the internal reinforcement force of geo-grid were achieved, which will be helpful to the seismic design of geo-grid reinforced soil retaining wall with integral panel.

Abstract: This Paper describes the beneficial impact of reinforcing the sub-grade layer with a single layerof geo-grid at different positions and thereby determination of optimum position of reinforcement layer. The( best) optimum position was determined based on California Bearing Ratio (CBR value) and unconfined compression tests were conducted to decide the optimum position of geo-grid. The CBR value of a soil increases by 50-100% when it is reinforced with a single layer of geogrid. The amount of development (Improvement) depends upon the type of soil and position of geo-grid. CBR of sub-grade soil is 6.53% without reinforcement and when geo-grid was placed at 0.2H from the top, the CBR value increased to 19.66%. Soaked Condition CBR of sub-grade soil is 4.77% without reinforcement and when geo-grid was placed at 0.2H from the top, the CBR value increased to 4.46%. Abstract:
Pavement structures cover vast areas of urban cities and non-urban roads and play a key role in daily commuting functionality and economic development; therefore, they must be conserved against any distress. The rutting problem, being a major distress to the pavement structure, must be solved and dealt with in order to preserve its value. One way of solving this dilemma is by using geo-grids within the pavement structure. A geo-grid is a synthetic material usually made from polymers with different thicknesses and stiffnesses. This paper investigates the effects of geo-grids on reducing the rutting occurrence through adding a layer of geo-grid with certain properties at different levels of the pavement structure. We also investigate, the result of the added geo-grid material to the developed vertical stresses within the pavement cross-section. This investigation is conducted by constructing a 3-D finite elements-based (FE) model of a pavement cross-section using ANSYS software; student version R1 2021. The FE-based model is validated by comparing its numerical predictions with the experimental results acquired from an accelerated large-scale paved model. The results show that the deeper the geo-grid is positioned, the more significant the rutting resistance is observed due to the stiffness of the geo-grid bearing the tensile force until a certain depth. Moreover, noticeable stress reduction is seen in the developed vertical compressive stresses below the loading area resisted by the geo-grid.

Abstract:
With the conduction of west development in China, the constructions of airports in the southwest mountainous areas are being carried out rapidly. Due to the various exteriors limitations, the embankment engineering in airports often exist some problems such as large height and slope ratio. So the stability of high embankment engineering is very essential to the construction and operation of airport. The cost of geo-grid material is very low and the construction is convenient. The embedding and occlusion of soil mass can be realized through its unique grid structure. The practical engineering shows that the stability of high embankment engineering can be solved through laying geo-grid in the filling soil. At the same time, FEM strength reduction can take the interaction between the components of geo-grid and soil into full consideration. As a strict mechanic method, FEM strength reduction can be reasonably and reliably adopted in the stability analysis, design and calculation of reinforced body with geo-grid.

This study indicated that the provision of a thin layer of sand at both sides of the reinforcement significantly improved the shear strength of clay soil.</p>Bond coefficient computations indicated that the shear strength of clay-geo-synthetics samples was higher than non-reinforced clay. The increased strength was due to the impact of open meshes of geo-synthetics which provided some degree of resistance bearing. To determine the share of resistance bearing provided by geo-synthetic transverse members in the entire direct shear strength, we conducted a series of tests on geo-synthetics-reinforced samples with and without transverse members. The resistance bearing provided by geo-synthetic transverse members was almost 10% of total shear strength. The results indicated that encapsulated geo-grid and geo-textile sand system increased the bearing capacity of clay, with geo-grid being more efficient than geo-textile.

Abstract:
The effect of Cyclic loading on the foundation behaviour of many engineering structures presents more important and related to many problems in geotechnical engineering, Especially when construction on soft ground area which represent one of the major concerns in geotechnical engineering. This paper is conducted to investigate the influence of using several improving techniques as (fly ash, Geo-grid, fly ash and Geo-grid) on the behavior of soft clayey soil subjected to cyclic loading. A total of twenty four models have been tested which consists of a wide domain of boundary conditions, such as untreated model, Geo-grid reinforced models, fly ash treated models and models treated with fly ash incorporated with Geo-grid were conducted by varying parameters such as, footing elevations, test velocity and number of geogrid layers. The analysis demonstrates that the settlement behaviour of footing resting on treated models with fly ash and two Geo-grid layers perform better than other improving techniques. Also observed there was an increase in settlement, which corresponds to the increase in test velocity from 6 to 9 mm/sec. Furthermore, it was conducted that the more depth of footing the soil settlement decreases. In general, when other factors remaining constant, the bearing capacity of soil goes on increasing when the depth increased.

Abstract:
Due to the special mesh structure, geo-grid material can avoid local subsidence of filling material, reduce uneven settlement of soil mass to the largest degree and improve the whole stability of soil mass, so the reinforced earth-retaining wall with geo-grid is widely used in engineering. Meanwhile, researches on its dynamic characters are not enough and it is hard to judge the whole stability of reinforced earth-retaining wall under seismic condition. When unstable failure happens, the location of failure surface can hardly be identified. These disadvantages have seriously limited the development of this supporting method and cause unsafe potentials for engineering. Based on the FEM strength reduction dynamic analysis and combined with practical engineering, the paper conducts stability analysis on the reinforced earth-retaining wall of geo-grid under seismic condition and the research achievements provide a new thinking for the seismic design of reinforced earth-retaining wall with geo-grid.

Soil stabilization is a vital technique in civil engineering, particularly when constructing on weak or expansive soils. Geo-grids have emerged as a modern and efficient method to reinforce and stabilize soils. This paper investigates the effectiveness of geo-grid reinforcement in enhancing the load-bearing capacity, reducing settlement, and improving the overall performance of subgrades. A series of laboratory tests including CBR (California Bearing Ratio), UCS (Unconfined Compressive Strength), and plate load tests were conducted on native soil samples with and without geo-grid inclusion. Abstract:
Increased access to modern energy fuels, especially electricity, is of high importance in order to promote sustainable development in developing countries. High quality planning processes using well developed energy models are required for globally increased electrification rates. The Open Source Spatial Electrification Tool (OnSSET) may be used for such purposes as it can model least cost electrification strategies in a region based both on increased grid-connection rates as well as off-grid electricity generation technologies. In this thesis some new developments to the methodology behind OnSSET have been studied. The first task was to add a new method of estimating residential electricity demand using remote sensing data. The second task was to add hybrid energy systems to the list of electricity generation technologies in OnSSET. The additions were also examined by means of a least cost electrification case study of Tanzania.   Strong correlations were found between residential electricity demand and GDP, electricity price and nighttime lights. One of these correlations was used to propose a new iterative method for setting residential electricity access targets in OnSSET. Some problems with the usability of NTL were discussed, and further research was proposed to examine the universality of the residential electricity demand correlations. Furthermore two mini-grid hybrid energy systems were developed for inclusion in OnSSET. PV-diesel hybrid systems were found to be cost-competitive with the already existing mini-grid technologies, while wind-diesel systems were found to be more expensive. It was discussed that the option of another method of choosing technology in OnSSET which includes more factors than simply LCOE may better capture the benefits of hybrid energy systems and allow for more diverse analyses. Finally it was found that a combination of grid-connection and off-grid technologies may be the most economic choice to reach 100% electrification rate in Tanzania for a cost between 2 and 55 billion USD depending on the level of electricity access target and choice of discount rate. PV technologies were found to be the dominating off-grid technologies in most cases.<br>Ökad tillgång till moderna energislag, inte minst elektricitet, är viktigt för främjandet av hållbar utveckling i utvecklingsländer.

Abstract:
This research is included in the field of studies for the evaluation and mitigation of geo-hydrological risks deriving from catastrophic rainfall events conducted in the Cinque Terre National Park area (Liguria) by the Department of Earth Sciences of the Environment and Life of University of Genoa (Italy). This activity made it possible to create and test a mathematical simulation model, in a physically based GIS environment, capable of carrying out 3D slope stability analysis (extended to a spatial domain) according to the pluviometric conditions assumed in the calculations. The experimentation first highlighted the limits of application of the "infinte slope" limit equilibrium method (LEM) used for the spatially 3D slope stability analysis in a GIS computerized geographical environment, also indicating improvement solutions for a more correct use. The input parameters of the soils (geotechnical, hydrogeological and geometric) entering the above mathematical expression were then examined. Their spatial distribution and their relationship with the local geo-morphometric-environmental control factors, on a basin and regional scale, were assessed, as well as their influence on the results was tested by comparing them with real phenomena and geomorphological processes observed in the chosen pilot area (i.e. Vernazza catchment affected on 25/10/2011 by a catastrophic rainfall event). All this experimentation led to the formulation of innovative calculation procedures and methods which were then coded in the Python programming language and developed in the open source QGIS application system in the form of executable "scripts". The predictive ability of the new model was tested in the aforementioned basin, comparing the spatial output data derived from the mathematical simulation with the real distribution of the surface landslides obtained from the analysis of aerial photos and site surveys. In summary, the system showed excellent potential for the preventive localization of soil mobilization phenomena on the slopes of a territorial domain where, in a neighborhood of 25 m away from the focal landslide areas, it was able to identify the 84% of the phenomena that actually occurred with a probability of 93% of the total of the aforementioned areas (with only 7% of false alarms).

Abstract:
The work presented in this thesis is focused on the characterization of contaminated sites via the application of non-invasive methods, such as electrical resistivity and electromagnetic techniques. With the aim of improving the relationships between geophysical parameters and hydro-geological features of the subsoil, some innovative methods are proposed. In particular, being electrical resistivity tomography an ill-posed and under-determined problem, the solution is computed by an over-parameterization of the model element with respect of the available measured data. The need to improve the resolution of resistivity imaging technique without stressing the intrinsic under-determination of the geo-electrical problem, and to provide more robust results in integrated characterization approaches, guided the work presented in this thesis to works on both “static” 2-D and 3-D problems, and on the inversion of time-lapse data. In addition, joint characterization of contaminated site has been carried out together with chemico-physical and biological analysis. Grid manipulation techniques have been explored and adapted to the inversion of geo-electrical data, in order to solve inversion of resistivity data set trying to improve space resolution without decaying the robustness of the inversion process. Furthermore, results obtained by the testing of a novel code for the inversion of complex resistivity data are presented. The software was implemented on the basis of the Primal-Dual method, which allows flexibility in choosing to minimize the L1- or the L2- norm on both the data and regularization term of the objective function. Strategies related to the inversion of electrical resistivity and IP data have been developed with the aim of improving the interpretability of the results both in space and in time. These activity are part of a common effort for achieving an integrated characterization of contaminated sites, jointly with chemico-physical analysis of soils and groundwater and with measures of presence and degradation activity of hydrocarbon-degrading biomass.

Abstract:
This interdisciplinary work combines computational science and physical oceanography. The parallelization of the SHYFEM circulation model and its application for simulating the system of interconnected basins in the Southern European Seas (SES) are the main areas of focus. The SES system is made up of different water bodies that can generally be regarded as separate and having independent dynamics. Most modeling studies treat these water bodies as standalone. The recent studies that model the system as a whole typically focus only on a particular process or a short time-scale. Representing the dynamics generated by narrow straits is difficult in regular grid models, and so those based on an unstructured grid represent a natural solution. Modelling aimed at a complete description of such complex physical systems incurs a considerable computational cost, which is directly affected by the size of the physical domain, the model resolution and the length of the simulation. Modern simulations involve numerical codes of circulation models that exploit the ongoing increases in computer power. The code of state-of-the-art models can be executed in parallel through high-performance computing facilities, enabling the simulations to be completed quickly. In this context, the parallelization of SHYFEM model is the first task, which has been successfully applied in coastal and regional configurations. The task of parallelization of SHYFEM includes an assessment of its reproducibility and parallel performances on a realistic test case. In the second task, we address the applicability of this parallel unstructured model for the more demanding SES system, demonstrating that this parallel code can effectively simulate the SES system from a physical point of view, seamlessly representing the physical domain in the long term. The SES system is simulated for one year with a fully baroclinic run. The results obtained are assessed qualitatively and by comparison with observations where possible.

Abstract:
The objective of the PhD thesis « Study and modelling of the pavement reinforcement with glass fibre grid under fatigue loading » is to characterize the reinforcement role of the asphalt surface layer of a pavement subjected to fatigue loading with the glass fibre grid or « geo-grid ». The fatigue behaviour of the composite formed of asphalt mixture and geo-grid is studied in laboratory with four point bending tests (4PB) performed with sinusoidal waveform, at 10°C and 25 Hz. The tested specimens are 630 x 100 x 100 mm3 beams of two types: asphalt beams (non-reinforced) and asphalt beams reinforced with geo-grid (reinforced). A four point bending prototype device was designed to perform the fatigue tests on the big size asphalt specimens. The device respects the European Standards. The experimental results were used for modelling of the damage evolution under fatigue loading of the both types of beams. The damage laws of the materials are Bodin laws programmed in Cast3M finite element code. Two categories of models were conceived, respectively: one layer beam models and tri-layers beam models. Abstract:
Software containers in general and Docker in particular is becoming more popular both in software development and deployment. Software containers are intended to be a lightweight virtualization that provides the isolation of virtual machines with a performance that is close to native. Docker does not only provide virtual isolation but also virtual networking to connect the isolated containers in the desired way. Many alternatives exist when it comes to the virtual networking provided by Docker such as Host, Macvlan, Bridge, and Overlay networks. Each of these networking solutions has its own advantages and disadvantages. One application that can be developed and deployed in software containers is data grid system. The purpose of this thesis is to measure the impact of various Docker networks on the performance of Oracle Coherence data grid system. Therefore, the performance metrics are measured and compared between native deployment and Docker built-in networking solutions. A scaled-down model of a data grid system is used along with benchmarking tools to measure the performance metrics. The obtained results show that changing the Docker networking has an impact on performance. In fact, some results suggested that some Docker networks can outperform native deployment. The conclusion of the thesis suggests that if performance is the only consideration, then Docker networks that showed high performance can be used. However, real applications require more aspects than performance such as security, availability, and simplicity. Therefore Docker network should be carefully selected based on the requirements of the application.

Abstract:
碩士<br>中原大學<br>資訊管理研究所<br>95<br>ABSTRACT Remote sensing has been a well developed technology. Especially in 3D applications, people often use satellite remote sensing imagery and aerial photos to build the 3D model. For real-time 3D flight simulation, besides a interactive virtual geographic environment, service providers have to update the imagery and DTM frequently to generate a realistic 3D scene of the specific location. However, relative materials like remote sensing data and aerial photos are distributed within government departments, research agencies or private enterprises and kept in different databases. To obtain a remote sensing image is very expensive, therefore we need to integrate remote sensing resource in different database to save the cost for a new image collect and reuse the archived images. But the problem is people don’t have a simple and convenient query interface to find out all the resource in different database to build a 3D scene. The purpose of this research is to use Grid technique to integrate distributed geo-spatial database and provide a query interface so uses can search between geo-spatial databases and get remote sensing data they need for 3D flight simulation through GridFTP. These difference imagery databases and remote sensing satellites are regarded as different ground observers, and we use Data Grid technique to integrate all of them. Through Grid Portal, People can use their computers to access remote sensing imagery from different databases in different companies. So they can almost real-time monitor their area of interest. In the demonstration, therefore to solve the problem of query between different databases from software, through GT4 (Globus Toolkit 4.03) basic framework, we use Grid operation and related technologies to build “Distribute Geo-Databases Integration using Data Grid Portal” to solve coordination and corporation problems. we present how to a create a flight path between two points and use it to query imagery and metadata databases. Since we already integrate different databases, optical remote sensing images and DEM will deliver to uses through GridFTP and they can use commercial software for 3D display. With the integrated database we provide, users can get all the resource they need to build a realistic 3D scene with the same scenario.

A large scale inclined direct shear device was used with the geo-grid at the angle of 30, 60 and 90 degree with respect to the shear plane to investigate the internal frictional angle at shear failure within the reinforced earth mass under the 3 selected simulated rainfall intensities. In addition, a traditional direct shear device was used to determine the interface frictional angle between the surface of the geo-grid and the reinforced earth. With the use of the laboratory test results, the slope stability analysis software STEDwin and MSEW were utilized to study the effects of (1) the placements of geo-grid at various angles within the soil mass, and (2) the simulated rainfall intensities, on the safety factor of stability of shale slopes which may be often encountered in Taiwan. The results of the study revealed that the reinforced earth with geo-grid at 30 degree has the internal frictional angle of 32-42.5 degree at shear failure which is least influenced by the water content. The internal frictional angles have a reduction rate of 5.5%-28.9% for the 3 selected rainfall intensities compared with that of dry condition. In addition, the interface frictional angle between the geo-grid and the soil mass is 39.5 degree at dry condition and is decreased to 20.5, 23, and 26.5 degree for w/c=4,7, and 11% respectively. For the stability analysis, the results of a reinforced earth slope case study revealed that increase of water content from 0% to 11% as simulated may reduce the safety factor of the slope stability from 6.1% to 32.5% using the STEDwin software, while the safety factor of lateral sliding for the reinforced earth slope may be reduced from 37 to 71.4%. The results of the study provide useful information for practical applications in case the reinforced earth with PE geo-grid is used for the slopes.

Abstract:
博士<br>逢甲大學<br>資訊工程學系<br>103<br>Current driving assistant systems are not just used for safety concerns only. Entertainment, data sharing, and advertisement are additional services offered by driving assistant systems, and these services are receiving considerable attentions. Many modern vehicles are equipped with various sensors to provide different information services in intelligent transportation systems. Data sharing has several problems to be solved, including data request and data dissemination. The data dissemination is used to broadcast the data in specific area or entire networks. Most studies on data dissemination schemes have focused on avoiding the problem of broadcast storm. The major topic of this work consists of the hybrid geo and mobile grid scheme, data dissemination and sharing scheme, and service tracking protocol. In the hybrid scheme, geo grid scheme is the basis of our methods. The geo grid scheme is used to divide a map into grid structure. Each grid elects its grid header to manage the information of the grid. However, geo grid is limited in fixed grid size of the initial design, which may cause more cost for network maintenance. We design the mobile grid sequence (MGS) scheme as follows. The mobile grid structures utilize the characteristic of group mobility to increase the flexibility of grid structure and lower its maintenance cost. This scheme also designs inter-MGS data exchanging method to provide efficient data circulation in the mobile grid structures. In a mobile environment, the service provider is not fixed in a location. When the service provider moves to another location of the road, the users may need to perform the discovery process again. The data dissemination and sharing scheme is based on a virtual backbone mechanism for vehicular communications. Coordinators store information and manage resource information in the backbone area. To reduce control packets for information exchange, headers can support effective resource management in mobile environments. The data structure design can create a local resource of routing table information based on a virtual backbone to locate and record resources. The tracking protocol is used to manage the service footprints information and keep tracking the target service. We choose a set of grid headers, called indicators, to manage the footprints. Indicators act as seigniors, which manage service providers in their territories. Corresponding users can easily find target services based on footprints if each service leaves its footprints on the branches. In the experimental results, mobile grid sequences effectively extend the service time, and the information is reliably shared in mobile grid sequences. Data dissemination and sharing schemes are efficient and outperforms other schemes in terms of satisfactory ratio and download time. The service tracking scheme outperforms both AODV and the centralized scheme regarding the tracking success rate and service-tracking time.

Abstract:
AbstractCrime prediction is a crucial problem in law enforcement, and the ability to forecast where and when crimes are likely to occur can help police departments allocate their resources effectively and prevent crimes. In this chapter, we propose a geo-temporal crime forecasting model based on a transformer architecture. We use a public dataset from the Boston Police Department and forecast crimes in each cell of a 1 km × 1 km grid. We use an encoder–decoder structure to capture the spatiotemporal patterns of the crimes. The encoder elaborates the crimes that occurred in each cell during the previous n days, and the decoder generates predictions of future crimes in each cell for the next m days. Our model considers both spatial and temporal correlations, which is challenging for traditional models. We evaluate the model on the Boston crime dataset and compare it with traditional solutions. Our experiments show that our model outperforms traditional models, achieving better accuracy in crime prediction. Overall, our proposed geo-temporal crime forecasting model is a promising approach for predicting crime in a given area.
