Abstract: With the development of technology and software, it has become easy to solve difficult problems in every field which use to take a lot of time. The use of software in the field of civil engineering has grown since the last decade. GEO5 is one such software which may be used to solve many geotechnical problems. GEO5 consists of wide range of powerful programs based on analytical method sand the Finite Element Method such as Stability Analysis, Excavation Design, Retaining, Wall Design, Foundation Design, Soil Settlement Analysis, Digital Terrain Model, Geotechnical Finite Element Analysis like analyzing and design of slope, design of retaining walls, settlement analysis, foundation design and much more .It is a very simple and powerful tool for solving geotechnical problems based on traditional analytical methods and Finite Element Methods (FEM).The easy-to-use suite consists of individual programs with a unified and user-friendly interface. Each program is used to analyze a different geotechnical task but all modules communicate with each other to form an integrated suite. In this project modules related to slope stability have been studied in details and then used them for analysis of slope stability. Using GEO5 software the geometry of problems were created in GEO5 and the analysis were carried out considering the stability and economic considerations. Also, the costs of different types of reinforcing methods were determined and compared. It is found that soil nailing is most economical.

Abstract— The use of natural stones in retaining wall has been a tradition and common practice throughout human history. Stone retaining walls are load bearing retaining walls, which have long been analyzed by considering the equilibrium of forces and moments applied to the wall treated as a rigid solid. Stone retaining walls can be designed for the provision of some slope stability. This paper provides a review of stability analysis of high stone retaining walls. This paper provides a review of stability analysis of high stone retaining walls using Geo5 software. The stone retaining wall examined in this study is located in Karabük (Turkey). The study area was located near of the North Anatolian Fault Line (NAF) which are the most important fault lines in Turkey. For that reason, the stability analyzes were carried out considering the earthquake situation. The stone retaining wall is made of traverten type rock. This rock is a commonly observed rock type. The height of the analyzed wall is 10 m. A 5 kPa uniformly distributed load was adopted in the stability analysis to accommodate for the heaviest loading condition during construction. The analysis with Geo5 found a wall factor of safety 1.78. At this value, it shows that the wall will stable although it is very high. Index Terms— Stone masonry walls, slope stability, Geo5, Turkey

Abstract:
Numbers of large scale polders are constructed to protect low-lying coastal area of Sundarban in Bangladesh during 1960s. At present, there are number of polders occupying an area of about 1.2 million hectares, which are vulnerable to breach and cause immense misery to millions of people every year. The purpose of this study is to assess the safety factors (FoS) of those Polder embankments during diurnal tidal cycle in coastal area and provide solution to improve the stability of embankment through installation of geogrid layers. To investigate vulnerability of the embankment failure, soil samples are collected from several borehole locations in Satkhira, a coastal site of Sundarban area. Field test—SPT and several Laboratory tests—direct shear test and Sieve analysis test have been carried out to determine shear strength, angle of internal frictions and grain size distribution. Slope stability analysis are performed using Geo5 software under several conditions—high water table (HWT), low water table (LWT) and rapid drawdown (RD) with side slope are 1:1, 1:1.5 and 1:2 and embankment height are 5m, 7.5m and 10m. The safety factor has been found lowest at rapid drawdown condition because of rapid recession of external water level. The lower FoS have been found 0.68, 0.89 and 0.92 which can be improved to 1.23, 1.34 and 1.24 respectively by installing several geogrid layers. Simplified Bishop Method have been used in Geo5 to perform the stability analysis under various conditions. In our investigation, HDPE biaxial geogrid have been taken to strengthen of polder embankments, which are timesaving, cost effective and efficient, side by side suitable for Sundarban area. The findings and solutions proposed by the study will help geotechnical engineers to reduce the vulnerability of Polder embankment under similar coastal conditions.

Abstract:
This paper revisits the issue of a potential substitutions of the Hoek-Brown failure model by the standard Mohr-Coulomb model in the stability analysis of rock masses. The derivation of equivalent shear strength parameters of the Mohr-Coulomb proposed by Hoek et al. [1] is addressed with emphases on the suitable range of stresses for which the equivalence of the two failure criteria applies. To that end, a simple numerical analysis of the oedometric test is carried out. It is seen that a correct choice of the upper limit of the minimum compressive principal stress is crucial for the Mohr-Coulomb model to provide predictions comparable to the Hoek-Brown model. This issue is addressed next in the light of the solution of slope stability problem. All the presented results were derived with the help of the GEO5 FEM finite element software [2].

Abstract:
The analysis of slope stability has received wide attention nowdays because of its practical importance. To provide steepest slopes which are stable and safe, various investigation are ongoing. The main objective of the project is to analyze slope of embankment by calculating factor of safety. So that an appropriate side slope can be chosen and use for the construction of highway. For this, limit equilibrium analysis has been done using GEO5 software. Swedish circle method (Graphically) has been used to performed manually analysis. In the present study, data collected from the site which is located near Shivni Village, Ner-Yavatmal road. “The construction of Samruddhi Mahamarg” is being constructed at that site. It is having high embankment heights upto 9meter. The values of unit weight of soil(γ), angle of internal friction(ϕ), cross sectional details of embankment and side slope of embankment were taken from that site. In this study, embankment of different heights (3 to 9m) under different 8 slopes (i.e. 1:2, 1:1.75, 1:1.5, 1:1.25, 1:1, 1:0.83, 1:0.7, 1:0.58), different values of cohesion and friction angle were considered. The analysis has been performed on two different cases: Case I stands for single layer of soil and Case II stands for double layer of soil by varying the value of cohesion and angle of internal friction the changes occur in the value of factor of safety were checked by comparing both results obtained by manual method and by GEO5 software. From this investigation it is found that increasing the value of cohesion and angle of internal friction, the factor of safety against slope stability increases. And for a particular height of embankment factor of safety increases with increase in the flatness of slope. From these results, it is better to use C-ϕ soil rather than ϕ soil as it gives maximum FOS as compared to sandy soil. From the analysis of doubled layered soil, it has been concluded that condition 2(with both soil cohesive) found satisfactory better with respect to condition 1(when one soil cohesive and one soil sandy). By considering condition 2 (both soil cohesive), it has been found that the increment of 25 to 30% in the FOS of condition 1 takes place.

Abstract:
This paper presents the stability analysis of a dike proposed to impound the river flood waters within an estuary near the west coast of south India. The proposed dike will be located within Ashtamudi Lake, the second largest lake in the state of Kerala, India, separating fresh water from brackish water. Constructing a dike at Munro Island portion of Ashtamudi, which is about 9.23 km from Arabian Sea coast, can meet the water demands of the region as well as prevent the sinking of Island during high tide. The river dike is designed to construct artificially as rock filled structures. The stratigraphy in the top 2 m consists of clayey mud underlined by fine to medium sand up to 6 m followed by alternate layers of clay and sand up the investigated depth of 15 m. In this paper, the stability of the dike located in an estuarine environment has been investigated and the factor of safety values have been determined with varying water level conditions and varying properties of the underlying soil. A detailed parametric study using RocScience software is presented, considering all the design conditions. The expected settlement of the dike is estimated considering the soil profile at the location both manually as well as using software Geo5. Both were in good agreement and the maximum possible settlement was found to be less than half a meter.

Abstract:
One of the most important issues in the construction of highways, mountain and urban roads is known as slope stabilization. If the necessary actions for protection are not considered, it could lead to problems and events such as landslides, settlements and even destruction of roads. There are many methods for stabilizing slopes such as Gabion walls and Tiebacks. This study can be used as the beginning of a new synthetic method where the Gabion wall is combined with Tiebacks. Gabion walls and tiebacks can be known as the most flexible methods of slope stabilization methods, because of this reason, if they can be combined with each other, it should show very good results in front of dynamic and even static forces. This combination is the novel point of this research. In this study at first, the gabion wall will be analysed in different loading conditions, and then to deal with earthquake dynamic forces the tiebacks will be used to increase the gabion walls stability. The software that is used in this study is GEO5 software, nowadays this software can be introduced as one of the best slope stability analysis software's. The results of this study showed that the designed gabion wall could be stable in dense silty gravel soil (GM) in 8.5-meter slope, and with magnitude of 0.25 horizontal coefficient of Manjil earthquake, but in the same geometry and material condition and impact of 0.4 magnitude horizontal coefficient of Bam earthquake it couldn't be stable alone. In this condition four rows of 18 meter tiebacks could stable the gabion wall very well. In this model, under loading condition 3 (with horizontal and vertical pseudo-static coefficient of Bam earthquake) that had the most vertical pseudo-static coefficient, the 23-meter tieback anchors with 12-degree inclination respect to horizontal could stable the considered gabion wall. This result could show that, the combination of gabion walls with tieback anchors gives a satisfactory result and it is an efficient and helpful method for stability of slopes in front of earthquake and dynamic forces.

Objectives. This article discusses options for additional restraints for support structures made from polymer dowels. The issue of increasing the stability of polymer sheet piles plays a key role in the design and construction of facilities using this type of material. The article compares two variants of the restraining devices and compares them with the non-reinforced version using the example of a notch of the same depth.Methods. The calculations are carried out by the Coulomb- Mohr methods implemented in the GEO5 software package module “Pit Fencing - Analysis.Result. The obtained calculations showed the possibility of using both types of restraints in retaining structures made of polymer dowels. Conclusion. Calculations have shown the effectiveness of both methods in their use as additional restraints for supporting structures using PVC dowels. The variant with the installation of the support pipe allows to slightly reduce the deformation of the sheet pile structure, but it does not have the ability to adjust the vertical position of the wall, which is present in the variant with the anchor system by welding the threaded rods to the ends of the metal braces or using talreeps.

Underground cable distribution channels to be excellent especially in big cities like Jakarta. This is because the underground cable distribution is a solution to the difficulty of land acquisition that will be used for top cable networks. Nevertheless, there is an important factor to be considered in implementing the underground cable distribution channel that is the condition of the soil through which the cable. This study aims to determine the dimensions of the cable house was safe from the soil instability. The soil instability are the stability of bolsters and the shear stability and take into account the carrying capacity of the foundation used. The data used as a reference in the analysis using research data that has been done previously. In stability analysis and foundation bearing capacity used Geo5 software demo version aid. The results obtained from the analysis, with variations on the dimensions of the cable house used are 2 mx 2 m, 2.5 mx 2.5 m and 3 mx 3 m, it is seen that the greater the dimensions used then the security number of stability bolsters, soil shear stability and the carrying capacity of the foundation decreases. This is due to the greater the dimensions of the cable house used, the greater the burden borne by the soil.

Abstract:
The article considers the issues of assessing the stability of non-standard soil-geological systems in difficult conditions. An analytical review of modern methods and tools for assessing the stability of embankment slopes is carried out. The features of the work of the embankment in the areas of the spread of permafrost are considered. The features of the design of embankments on permafrost soils with the preservation or partial thawing of frozen soils have been studied. Two versions of the calculated static schemes of sliding surfaces are presented: base - subgrade and base - subgrade - pavement. Based on the results of field studies, the physical and mechanical characteristics of the soils of the embankment and the base of the subgrade were determined, which became the basis for mathematical modeling and assessment of the stability of the embankment slopes. In software packages GeoStab and Geo5, based on the finite element method and the results of field studies, digital models of embankments were built on a weak foundation. The calculation of the stability of the system “base - subgrade” under the action of a standard uniformly distributed load has been performed. Two models of the system and the base - subgrade - road surface are considered: without cracks on the rolling strip and with cracks. It was found that coating defects affect the stability of the system only in the presence of an earthquake of medium strength and more. Recommendations for strengthening the slopes of embankments operating in difficult soil-geological conditions are given.

Abstract:
With increasing level of urbanization, new buildings are erected in close proximity of existing buildings or quite close to site boundaries. Such practice affects the complexity of retaining wall installation technology. When a retaining wall is installed close to an existing building, a street or a steep slope, the stability of the wall has to be ensured first. There are cases when a retaining wall has to be strengthened by creating a permanent or temporary support, i.e. by installing ground anchors. According to literature analysis, the major problem is that a profile stops without reaching its designed depth (Van Baars). Merifield et al. distinguish three major types of anchors: circular, square and rectangular. They emphasise that anchor surface unevenness does not impact anchor resistance. According to El Nagar, most frequently anchors disintegrate due to excessive tensile strength of the anchor. The increase of this force is related to tensile strength measured in anchor testing. In this paper, three types of retaining walls with ground anchors are considered: pile wall, Berlin Wall, and sheet piling with excavation depth of 6 m. The conditions are selected as follows: when walls are installed in clay soils, sandy soils, sandy soils at high groundwater levels, and when the wall is installed next to the building. Mechanical resistance and stability of construction incline are calculated by means of GEO5 software. A survey was designed basing on the calculation results and the selected evaluation criteria. In the survey geotechnical engineers rated 18 different cases. The relevance of criteria is determined by employing the entropy method after the primary results of the survey are summarised; afterwards a multiple criteria decision analysis carried out using the utility function. The multi-criteria assessment results indicate the most rational type of a retaining wall for the chosen conditions.

Abstract:
The increasing adoption of smart systems in our daily life has led to the development of new applications with varying performance and energy constraints, and suitable computing architectures need to be developed for these new applications. In this article, we present gem5-X, a system-level simulation framework, based on gem-5, for architectural exploration of heterogeneous many-core systems. To demonstrate the capabilities of gem5-X, real-time video analytics is used as a case-study. It is composed of two kernels, namely, video encoding and image classification using convolutional neural networks (CNNs). First, we explore through gem5-X the benefits of latest 3D high bandwidth memory (HBM2) in different architectural configurations. Then, using a two-step exploration methodology, we develop a new optimized clustered-heterogeneous architecture with HBM2 in gem5-X for video analytics application. In this proposed clustered-heterogeneous architecture, ARMv8 in-order cluster with in-cache computing engine executes the video encoding kernel, giving 20% performance and 54% energy benefits compared to baseline ARM in-order and Out-of-Order systems, respectively. Furthermore, thanks to gem5-X, we conclude that ARM Out-of-Order clusters with HBM2 are the best choice to run visual recognition using CNNs, as they outperform DDR4-based system by up to 30% both in terms of performance and energy savings.

The processing of GPS observations in precise positioning is complex and requires professional surveyors since it must be carried out after each static measurement. In GPS network adjustment, the obtaining of the correct coordinates of the determined point is possible after determining the components of GPS vectors and aligning the networks of these vectors, while PPP requires the availability of precise products for the reference satellites orbits and clock. For that reason, surveyors can take advantage of free online GPS data processing. In this paper, the authors compare the results obtained from different sources of free online GPS data processing (AUSPOS, OPUS, CenterPoint RTX, APPS, MagicGNSS, CSRS-PPP, GAPS, and SCOUT) in terms of their accuracy, availability, and operation. This is then compared with free GPS processing software (gLAB and RTKLIB), and finally with commercial software (TBC Trimble Business Center). The results show that online processing services are more accurate than offline processing software, which indicates the strength of their algorithms and processes. The CSRS-PPP online service had the best results. The difference between the relative solution of AUSPOS and OPUS, and CSRS-PPP is insignificant.

Abstract:
The High Resolution Winds (NWC/GEO-HRW) software is developed by the EUMETSAT Satellite Application Facility on Support to Nowcasting and Very Short Range Forecasting (NWCSAF). It is part of a stand-alone software package for the calculation of meteorological products with geostationary satellite data (NWC/GEO). NWCSAF High Resolution Winds provides a detailed calculation of Atmospheric Motion Vectors (AMVs) and Trajectories, locally and in near real time, using as input geostationary satellite image data, NWP model data, and OSTIA sea surface temperature data. The whole NWC/GEO software package can be obtained after registration at the NWCSAF Helpdesk, www.nwcsaf.org, where users also find support and help for its use. NWC/GEO v2018.1 software version, available since autumn 2019, is able to process MSG, Himawari-8/9, GOES-N, and GOES-R satellite series images, so that AMVs and trajectories can be calculated all throughout the planet Earth with the same algorithm and quality. Considering other equivalent meteorological products, in the ‘2014 and 2018 AMV Intercomparison Studies’ NWCSAF High Resolution Winds compared very positively with six other AMV algorithms for both MSG and Himawari-8/9 satellites. Finally, the Coordination Group for Meteorological Satellites (CGMS) recognized in its ‘2012 Meeting Report’: (1) NWCSAF High Resolution Winds fulfills the requirements to be a portable stand-alone AMV calculation software due to its easy installation and usability. (2) It has been successfully adopted by some CGMS members and serves as an important tool for development. It is modular, well documented, and well suited as stand-alone AMV software. (3) Although alternatives exist as portable stand-alone AMV calculation software, they are not as advanced in terms of documentation and do not have an existing Helpdesk.

Abstract:
AbstractCloud computing platforms can provide fast and easy access to complex Earth science models and large datasets. This article presents a mature capability for running the GEOS-Chem global 3D model of atmospheric chemistry on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud. GEOS-Chem users at any experience level can get immediate access to the latest, standard version of the model in a preconfigured software environment with all needed meteorological and other input data, and they can analyze model output data easily within the cloud using Python tools in Jupyter notebooks. Users with no prior knowledge of cloud computing are provided with easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions. They can learn how to complete a demo project in less than one hour, and from there they can configure and submit their own simulations. The cloud is particularly attractive for beginning and occasional users who otherwise may need to spend substantial time configuring a local computing environment. Heavy users with their own local clusters can also benefit from the cloud to access the latest standard model and datasets, share simulation configurations and results, benchmark local simulations, and respond to surges in computing demand. Software containers allow GEOS-Chem and its software environment to be moved smoothly between cloud platforms and local clusters, so that the exact same simulation can be reproduced everywhere. Because the software requirements and workflows tend to be similar across Earth science models, the work presented here provides general guidance for porting models to cloud computing platforms in a user-accessible way.

Landslide occurred on June, 19th 2016 in Caok Village, Purworejo,Central Java. Caok Village is part of Menoreh hills area. Most of Slope in the landslide location has more than 20o. Before the landslide, rain occurred with maximum intensity 325mm/day. This is an indication that landslide was triggered by groundwater infiltration process, caused by high rainfall intensity and steep slopes. In this research, slope stability analyzed using Plaxis and Geo-slope software. Data that are soil engineering properties, steep slope, and groundwater table modelling with Plaxis and Geo-slope software to obtain slope stability and deformation. Minimum number factor of safety is 1,25 (Bowless 1984), without earthquake. Safety factor 1,162 obtained from Geo-Slope model, while with Plaxis resulted 0,9522 with maximum displacement 205m. Both the results of safety factor indicate that the location of the study are prone to landslide.

Direct geo-referencing system uses the technology of remote sensing to quickly grasp images, GPS tracks, and camera position. These data allows the construction of large volumes of images with geographic coordinates. So that users can be measured directly on the images. <br><br> In order to properly calculate positioning, all the sensor signals must be synchronized. Traditional aerial photography use Position and Orientation System (POS) to integrate image, coordinates and camera position. However, it is very expensive. And users could not use the result immediately because the position information does not embed into image. To considerations of economy and efficiency, this study aims to develop a direct geo-referencing system based on open source software and hardware platform. <br><br> After using Arduino microcontroller board to integrate the signals, we then can calculate positioning with open source software OpenCV. In the end, we use open source panorama browser, panini, and integrate all these to open source GIS software, Quantum GIS. Abstract Abstract. Numerical modeling is an important tool to estimate slope stability. This publication shows application of a GEO 5 - slope stability software to evaluate stability of the “Łaski” Landslide in Międzybrodzie Bialskie. The slide surfaces, which were indentified in drill cores, were used to compute factors of safety (FS). The data from inclinometric measurements were used to verify the numerical model of the landslide. Calculations were carried out for three scenarios: first with normal water level, second scenario with lowered water level of 5 m and 10 m and the third scenario without water with the worst courses of sliding surfaces. As the result for each scenario the factors of safety were estimated. It was found that despite of water lowering and stabilization of existed surfaces, there is a considerable risk of a new sliding surfaces occurrence.

Abstract:
With the proliferation of online web objects, spatial keyword queries that retrieve objects satisfying both spatial and keyword conditions are becoming popular. The geo-textual index that integrates a spatial index with a keyword filter offers a promising approach for processing such queries efficiently. However, it is still an open problem on how the geo-textual indices can be effectively constructed from scratch. This paper proposes a bulk loading algorithm for the geo-textual indices, which constructs the indices top-down efficiently. It utilizes a two-phase method to construct the children of nodes at each level of the geo-textual index, taking both spatial and keyword information into consideration, and thus optimizes the geo-textual index for spatial keyword queries. The time complexity of the algorithm is analyzed theoretically, and comprehensive experiments with both real and synthetic datasets show that it can build high quality geo-textual indices with good query performance and space utilization.

AbstractThis paper describes the development and main operational capabilities of Voyager, a PC-based, geospatially-enabled piece of software that can fuse and visualize large, multi-variable data sets that change in space (XYZ) and time (T). The new software has the ability to simultaneously visualize imagery, bathymetry/terrain, true volumetric (voxel), and flow field data in a fully interactive geo-referenced mode. In addition to providing global coverage, a key feature of this software is the capability to interactively visualize large data sets while operating on a desktop PC. This is achieved by using tiling and level-of-detail (LOD) technology for terrain, imagery, and volumetric data, as well as compression techniques and the multi-threading capabilities of modern PCs.
