Abstract:
Dolerite dykes in the East Finnmark Scandinavian Caledonides form three geochemical suites: Digermulhalvøya–Magerøya – WNW–ESE-trending, c. 337–332 Ma, possibly also c. 293 Ma, continental within-plate; East Varangerhalvøya – NE–SW and N–S, c. 376 Ma, continental plate-margin; Styret – NE–SW, also c. 376 Ma, chemically intermediate to the other two groups. New K–Ar data from metadolerites on Varangerhalvøya give a 7-point ‘lower envelope’ isochron of 577 ± 14 Ma (MSWD 1.04). This is concordant with a published upper intercept U–Pb zircon age (567+30−23 Ma) from an East Varangerhalvøya dolerite

The basement of eastern Mexico comprises Grenvillian-age granulite-facies metamorphic rocks. The Oaxacan Complex represents the largest outcrop belt of this basement in Mexico. In this work, southwestern Oaxacan Complex garnets are studied from a petrographical, geochemical, and geothermobarometrical perspective for the first time. The studied garnets display different grain sizes nucleated in a polyphase evolution. The almandine end member proportion is similar in all of the studied lithotypes. The highest pyrope concentrations are found in Qz Fsp paragenesis and ultramafic rocks and the lowe

The composite Albian–Eocene orogenic wedge of the northern part of the Inner Western Carpathians (IWC) comprises the European Variscan basement with the Upper Carboniferous–Triassic cover and the Jurassic to Upper Cretaceous sedimentary successions of a large oceanic–continental Atlantic (Alpine) Tethys basin system. This paper presents an updated evolutionary model for principal structural units of the orogenic wedge (i.e., Fatricum, Tatricum and Infratatricum) based on new and published white mica 40Ar/39Ar geochronology and P–T estimates by Perple_X modeling and geothermobarometry. Abstract:
The recently discovered Weilasituo Sn-polymetallic deposit in the Great Xing’an Range is an ultralarge porphyry-type deposit. The mineralization is closely associated with an Early Cretaceous quartz porphyry. Analysis of quartz porphyry samples, including zircon U-Pb dating and Hf isotopies, geochemical and molybdenite Re-Os isotopic testing, reveals a zircon U-Pb age of 138.6 ± 1.1 Ma and a molybdenite Re-Os isotopic age of 135 ± 7 Ma, suggesting the concurrence of the petrogenetic and metallogenic processes. The quartz porphyry has high concentrations of SiO2 (71.57 wt %–78.60 wt %), Al2O3 (

Abstract:
South America provides an outstanding laboratory for studies of magmatism and crustal evolution because it contains older Archean-Paleoproterozoic cratons that amalgamated during Mesoproterozoic and Neoproterozoic supercontinent assembly, as well as a long history of Andean magmatism that records crustal growth and reworking in an accretionary orogen. We have attempted to reconstruct the growth and evolution of South America through U-Pb geochronology and Hf isotope analyses of detrital zircons from 59 samples of sand from modern rivers and shorelines. Recent regional bedrock mapping carried out on the Hall Peninsula, Baffin Island, Nunavut has revealed previously unknown rock units, structural relationships and metamorphic conditions achieved. Mafic and ultramafic rocks occur primarily intercalated with metasedimentary rocks in the east-central region of the Hall Peninsula. Focused mapping was carried out in the Quaqqanituaq Area (QA), now the type locality for metasedimentary-mafic/ultramafic occurrences on the Hall Peninsula. The QA records an east-west compression event, D1, which produced in the dominant regional S1 fabric and tight,

High-pressure granulite terranes are important sources of information for understanding deep-crustal architecture and processes related to the evolution and stabilization of continental lithosphere. However, one of the most critical challenges is to understand how, and on what timescales, large exposures of lowermost continental crust are exhumed to the Earth's surface. In the East Lake Athabasca region of the western Canadian Shield, high pressure granulites (∼1.0+ GPa) make up one of the largest exposed deep crustal terranes in the world (>20,000 km2). Integrating field observation with petrochronology is critical for understanding the tectonometamorphic evolution of the North American Grenville Province. Despite methodological advances in geothermobarometry and geochronology, incorporating these data into larger models of the Adirondack Mountains remains particularly challenging due to the presence of multiple generations of deformation, primarily related to the ca. 1190 – 1140 Ma Shawinigan and ca. 1090 – 1020 Ma Ottawan Orogenies (McLelland et al.,2013).
