Traditional and modern methods of mapping social and demographic processes are given in the article. The authors revealed the technique of multivariate analysis of the geodemographic situation, its territorial features, on the basis of which the typology of the Russian Federation constituent entities is carried out. Selecting five types of the country’s regions by similar signs of the geodemographic situation is justified; graphical models for the regions which are the most prominent examples of each type are presented.
