Abdallah, Nagi-Nassib. "La Beqaa (Liban) : étude de géographie humaine." Paris 10, 1989. http://www.theses.fr/1989PA100104.
Full textOur study of Beqaa (Lebanon) is divided into two volumes. In the first volume, after the presentation of our work concerning the region (an opinion-poll taken in 1986), we emphasized the characteristics of the situation at that time and the natural geographic aspects which acted upon and continue to act upon the different demographic, economic, and social factors from which we were able to draw the following conclusions. The population of Beqaa reached approximately 444000 which was concentrated in a region of 4428 km2 (100 inhabitants km2). This population was divided among 239 centers of homogeneous population (33 christian centers and 206 muslim centers) and 28 centers of heterogeneous population. The total of these centers comprise a total of 3 cities, 59 baldas, and 217 dayaas inhabited by a population of 107900, 226050, and 110050 respectively. As for the demographic phenomena, it is remarked that the population is young, that the masculin sex is more numerous than the féminin, and that population gronth is weak. In the second volume of the study, we emphasized the abnormal evolution of the economy dominated by the tertiary sector and not by agriculture. The evolution of Beqaa is noted for the unequal development of the urban and rural regions aggravated by the great contrasts of standards of living which results, finally, in a developmental impasse

Full textForests are an essential component of the lorraine landscape and environment and a valuable part of the heritage of the province. Therefore, they play an important part in country planning schemes and are still considered in many cases as a stake to be taken into account. An analysis of wooded areas is a reliable testimony of the success or failure of the successive planning policies applied and the various harmful actions it had to suffer (inconsistencies of the re-structuring schemes, preference given to resinous species, damages due to wars, annexion : 1871-1918. The area covered by forests has risen by 100 000 ha since 1945 and this development has been paired with an increase of the proportion of tall fully-grown trees in decicuous forests. The timber industry has become a very promising branch for the economy of lorraine, though results are rather fluctuating. Its future is closely linked to the development of research in sylviculture and the existence of an innovative and efficient forest management sector. Though it exposed to many threats (acid rain, various forms of pollution, encroaching urbanisation, extension of fallow land) the forest contributes greatly to the quality of lorraine landscapes and should make the re-structuring process of the local economy easier (timber industry line, tourism and leisure activities)

Full textSpace is not given, it is always to be ran. That's our paradigm of the beginning. In this vision, mobility is regarded as an important geaographical's concept. To assure onself of this, we must remember that aptitude to move is an indispensable faculty of human beings, a requirement for the survival of society and a determining factor to its developpement. In regard to our urban world, where interactions between man and space are quite complicated, concept of mobility is uppermost in our mind. To better understand which problems this notion is being solved, we're giving our theoretical model of human mobility. In our findings, mobility serve actors's interests and plans. But the potential and the will of these actors appear quite different. To analyse these differences, our study shows how every actor organize and conceive the links between mobility and territory and how these different strategies are taking place into urban space, and in the matter, help us to understand

Full textThe People's Republic of Congo is submitted all the year to the rigor of a climate at the same time hot and wet, and the ill-fated results of which are still made worse by the constant presence of atmospheric calms. The country is located in fact in the zone of convergence-ascendancy of the north and south trade wind: when approaching the equator, those trade winds grow weaker, then no more favoring the calorific deperdition. Nevertheless, our study shows up two bioclimatic Congo divided by the meridian of Brazzaville : - The coast and the mountainous regions of the west offer two bioclimatic seasons well cut off : climatic comfort in dry season and absolute climatic discomfort in rainy season. - The depressions in the east (congolese basin) without seasonal bioclimatic rhythm, where the whole year is comprised in the absolute climatic discomfort

Full textDispite its important forest and mining potentialities, the eastern Province remains "late" region. This state of affairs can be attibutable to fundamental reasons first, underpopulation : amongst the country's ten provinces, the Eastern Province has the weakest population density this is to not withstanding the number of immigrants coming from other regions of Cameroon as well as from neighbouring countries. The analysis of this phenomenon has allowed us to distinguish three types unequal population. Pertaining to marginalisation it manifests itself through the insufficiencies of modern equipement this amount to difficult integration of the villages into modern life. Lastly, the region remains enclaved dispite the existence of two asphalted axes Bertoua-Belabo and Bertoua-Garoua-Boulai which have their backs to the most part of the East. These three phenomenons are the realities of the region. They give two principal outrances : on the one hand there is poverty and on the other there are informal economic such as the exploitation of gold and diamond, just to mention the few this is to the detriment of state. The situation nneds to be remedied in the future. The authorities concerned ought to come up with a robust development policy. Morever, they need to support the initiatives taken by the local population

Full textThe need to maintain the unity of geography justifies the use of all approaches to the study of spatial discontinuities. The geography of health should participate in the reading of regional geography and its applications. To validate this aim, the use of epidemiological transition theory and its transposition from the domaine of historical time to geographie space is proposed here. This requires careful analysis of the sources of data not commoly used in geography but allows the emphasis of links between health, environment and development. The south pacific and french 2polynesia constitute a prime area for such an approach, especially because their multiple contrasts in geographic scale and levels of development (indrotuction). To demonstrate the utility of this approach it is first necessary to reconstruct the pass and present of population and its health wich determine the geo-sanitary context, and where the cause of the unequal distribution of people was studied, and leads to the formation of a new environment-man-health system (part i) the causes of death and major illnesses were next studied at different geographical scales (mortality and morbidity are studied at differents geographical scales (part ii). They appear to constitute synthetics indicators of socio-spatial disparities and permit the geography of health to participate not only the measurement of regional health conditions but also to contribute in matters of global human geography and to aid in the development of other

Full textThe structures of space in the main two islands of the Mascarenes are polygenic. They result from successive application of two social projects: one is historical and colonial, and the other is a contemporary one of decolonization, carried out within the frame of independence and turning Reunion into a department. Those projects, different in the two islands, are combined with unequal ecological restraints and advantages to produce specific sociospatial structures which are not free of strong disparities.
