Abstract:
Geographical indications and designation of origins is an industrial property right describing a product originated from any region or attributable to any region due to its quality, reputation or other characteristics. Particularly, the geographical indications (GI) provide information about the raw material or final products’ geographical roots to consumers and characterize the degree of its quality. Two types of GI were defined: Protected Designations of Origin (PDO) and Protected Geographical Indication (PGI). On the other hand, the products that cannot be registered as a designation of origin or geographical indication could be registered as Traditional Speciality Guaranteed (TSG) products specialty guaranteed if it can be proven that the product is on the traditional market for at least 30 years. The main goal of this research is to examine Turkey’s current status about labelled geographic agricultural material with a comparative statistic overview.

Abstract:
The Geographical Indication is an instrument of protection to products and services that have intrinsic value. The cities of Bento Gonçalves, Flores da Cunha, Monte Belo do Sul, Farroupilha, Paraty, Urussanga, Salinas and Abaíra are highlights in the Brazilian agricultural sector. These regions have territorial demarcations with a Geographical Indication certification, where the producers live in the same region and can sell their own products with this seal of quality. An analysis has as a starting point the following study problem: Is the success of the implementation of a Geographical Indication linked to the development of the region? The results showed that only the Gross Domestic Product per capita is not sufficient to prove a record of Geographic Indication was actually implemented successfully in a certain region or not, however it can be observed that in the developed regions the trend is much higher.

Abstract:
Handicraft activities occupy an important position in the economic structure of J&K State. Being environment friendly, these activities are best suited to the state as they are more labour intensive and less capital intensive in nature, thus having scope for employment generation at a large scale. The Kashmir handicraft products have earned worldwide fame for their attractive designs, functional utility and high quality craftsmanship. However this sector has suffered a lot due to unorganized market Lack of skilled workers new technology and absence of brand image. So in order to improve the production and branding of handicraft Geographical Indication is needed. Geographical Indication (GI) identifies a good/product as originating in a particular region, where a particular quality of the good is attributable to its place of origin. GI will help Jammu and Kashmir producers differentiate the uniqueness of the products from similar competing products, establish brand and goodwill of local products, fetch premium price for such products, and increase sales/export by protecting reputation of the products. The essence of GIs is that specific geographic locations yield product qualities that cannot be replicated elsewhere. GI-registered product is produced using the GI technology. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the status of the geographical indication in the state of Jammu and Kashmir as well as its prospect. The state has so far brought six of its ethnic and region specific products under geographical indication. All of these products belong to only one product category i.e. Handicrafts. The state has huge panorama of using geographical indication for its unique and famous ethnic and region specific products. However, lack of knowledge about intellectual property rights is not giving proper value and recognition to the geographical indication in the state.

Abstract:
Traditional food makers should be empowered and their products should be protected. The objectives of this research are to identify and analyze the potential, the prospect, and the legal protection of traditional food (producer and products) to finally attain legal protection and trademark or geographic indication. In this research, the method applied is analytical descriptive qualitative by making use of participatory (PRA) and sociological-juridical approaches. The research findings suggest that so far, instead of working on a bigger cause that is achieving mark/label, traditional food producers are still striving for trademark merely to get market distribution and halal label. It is clear that they need help from related parties considering their economy, sociological humanities (empowerment), and legal aspects (regulation, policy, brand, halal label, consumer protection). Related parties, the Industry and Trade Service, Cooperatives and SME’s, Directorate General of Property Rights and its regional office, the Department of Agriculture, universities, and the traditional food producers association—should work together and take serious measures to pro-actively involve food makers.

Verdi, A. R. "Preservation, innovation and governance: Geographical indication of grapes in Jundiaí (Brazil)." BIO Web of Conferences 15 (2019): 03016. http://dx.doi.org/10.1051/bioconf/20191503016.

Full text
Abstract:
The formation of the grape growing area of Jundiaí was influenced by Italian immigration and the diffusion of cultivar Isabella. After 1930, the coffee economy crisis, the destructuring of the large monoculture property and the emergence of the Niagara Rosada cultivar allowed for the specialization of the Jundiaí grape growing agglomeration. The diffusion of this cultivar characterized the physiognomy of the regional vineyard with the practice of the “espalier” conduction system, and developed the intangible heritage based on the religious character of the cultural manifestations and harvest celebrations. Currently, urban and industrial expansion provides negative externalities of the geographic proximity between the diverse uses of the agricultural space, a fact that imposes threats to the sustainability of the traditional grape growing activities. This work is based on the hypothesis that the Geographical Indication of the Niagara Rosada grape presupposes governance among the agents and constitutes a project of valuation of the traditional landscape and the cultural heritage, in order to contribute to adding value to the grape and to territorial development. The specific resources, even outside the market sphere, can contribute to the commercial valuation of the Niagara Rosada grape and wealth generation beyond the classic notion of “productivity”.

Abstract:
AbstractThis paper gives a method for premium rating by postcode area. The method is based on spatial models in a Bayesian framework and uses the Gibbs sampler for estimation. A summary of the theory of Bayesian spatial methods is given and the data which was analysed by Taylor (1989) is reanalysed. An indication is given of the wide range of models within this class which would be suitable for insurance data. The aim of the paper is to introduce the models and to show how they can be utilised in an insurance setting.

Abstract:
The demand for coffee in Indonesia is relatively high because Indonesia is the fourth largest coffee producing country in the world. This indicates that there is a change in the lifestyle of world coffee consumers who prioritizes health and environmental sustainability. The development of sustainable coffee farming is carried out by increasing the quality and productivity of the coffee harvest through the Geographical Indication Certification program. The results show that the Geographical Indication Certification Strategy in empowering local farmers is the SO (Strength-Opportunities) Strategy, namely: 1) Making the Geographical Indication area an ecotourism area through the development of integrated arabica coffee-based agribusiness (2) Facilitating and stimulating investment in industrial development directed at increasing competitiveness through fostering improvement in the quality and appearance of products in Arabica coffee and other derivative products. Thus, it is necessary to have consistent quality control from the government so that products received by consumers follow the Geographical Indication label.
