The poems in this collection are based on research into the naming of places in Western Australia. I began this project with the idea to study place names in the North and South of Western Australia; however the rich stories I found beneath the place names, and the time constraint of twelve months, has limited my field of research mainly to the metropolitan areas of Perth and Fremantle. This study examines the onomastic consistencies in three of Gloria Naylor's novels: Linden Hills (1985), Mama Day (1988), and Bailey's Cafe (1992). The naming patterns exhibited by Naylor in the triad demonstrate a similar practice used by other African American writers. Abstract:

The Nāmamantrārthāvalokinī ('An Explanation of the Meaning of the Namemantras') is an early, and major, commentary on the Nāmasaṃgīti ('The Chanting of Names'). Written by the eighth century Indian ācārya Vilāsavajra, it survives in the original Sanskrit and in Tibetan translation. The Nāmasamgīti enumerates the 'Names' of Mañjuśrī, the Mahayana figure embodying wisdom, and it exerted a strong influence on liturgy, ritual and meditation in the later phase of Buddhism in India (750-1200 CE). The determinants of foreign language enrollment in U.S. colleges and universities were modeled for ten study years between 1960 and 1998. The units of analysis were at two different geographic scales: the state and EA (Economic Area) levels.
