Abstract:
In this project we introduce the general idea of geometric quantization and demonstratehow to apply the process on a few examples. We discuss how to construct a line bundleover the symplectic manifold with Dirac’s quantization conditions and how to determine if we are able to quantize a system with the help of Weil’s integrability condition. To reducethe prequantum line bundle we employ real polarization such that the system does notbreak Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle anymore. From the prequantum bundle and thepolarization we construct the sought after Hilbert space.

Abstract:
We formulate a process of quantization of classical mechanics, from a symplecticperspective. The Dirac quantization axioms are stated, and a satisfactory prequantizationmap is constructed using a complex line bundle. Using polarization, it isdetermined which prequantum states and observables can be fully quantized. Themathematical concepts of symplectic geometry, fibre bundles, and distributions are exposedto the degree to which they occur in the quantization process. Quantizationsof a cotangent bundle and a sphere are described, using real and K¨ahler polarizations, respectively.

Geometric quantization is a subject of finding irreducible representations of certain group or algebra and identifying those equivalent representations by geometric means. Geometric quantization of even dimensional fermionic system has been constructed based on the spinor representation of even dimensional Clifford algebras. Although geometric quantization of odd dimensional fermionic system has not been done, the existence of spinor representations in odd dimension indicates that the geometric quantization is possible. The term quantization refers to the process of estimating a given probability by a discrete probability supported on a finite set. The quantization dimension Dr of a probability is related to the asymptotic rate at which the expected distance (raised to the rth power) to the support of the quantized version of the probability goes to zero as the size of the support is allowed to go to infinity. This assumes that the quantized versions are in some sense ``optimal'' in that the expected distances have been minimized. The focus of this research is the near Chern-Simons limit of the theory, where the distance is large enough to give an almost topological theory, with a small contribution from the Yang-Mills term.

Over a century since its inception, general relativity continues to lie at the heart of some of the most researched topics in theoretical physics. It seems likely that the coveted solutions to problems like quantum gravity are to be found in an extension of general relativity, one which may only be visible in an alternate formulation of the theory.  In this thesis we consider the possibility of casting general relativity in the form of an initial value problem where spacetime is seen as the evolution of space. This evolution is shown to be constrained and of Hamiltonian type.  Not all spacetim

This thesis aims to contribute to the developments of wireless communication systems. The work generally consists of three parts: the first part is a discussion on general digital communication systems, the second part focuses on wireless channel modelling and fading mitigation techniques, and in the third part we discuss the possible application of advanced digital signal processing, especially time-frequency representation and blind source separation, to wireless communication systems. The first part considers general digital communication systems which will be incorporated i

<p>A standard question in the study of geometric quantization is whether symplectic reduction interacts nicely with the quantized theory, and in particular whether &#8220;quantization commutes with reduction.&#8221; Guillemin and Sternberg first proposed this question, and answered it in the affirmative for the case of a free action of a compact Lie group on a compact Kähler manifold. Subsequent work has focused mainly on extending their proof to non-free actions and non-Kähler manifolds. For realistic physical examples, however, it is desirable to have a proof which also applies to non-compac

3D surfaces are used in applications such as animations, 3D object modeling and visualization. The geometries of such surfaces are often approximated using polygonal meshes. This thesis aims to compress 3D geometry meshes by using an algorithm based on normal meshes and the Estimation-Quantization (EQ) algorithm. Normal meshes are multilevel representations where finer level vertices lie in a direction normal to the local surface and therefore compress the vertex data to one scalar value per vertex. A mixture distribution model is used for the wavelet coefficients. The EQ algorithm uses the lo

Abstract:
In this thesis we extend Lerman’s cutting construction to spin-c structures. Every spin-c structure on an even-dimensional Riemannian manifold gives rise to a Dirac operator D+ acting on sections of the associated spinor bundle. The spin-c quantization of a spin-c manifold is defined to be ker(D+)−coker(D+). It is a virtual vector space, and in the presence of a Lie group action, it is a virtual representation. In 2004, Guillemin et al defined signature quantization and showed that it is additive under cutting. We prove that the spin-c quantization of an S^1-manifold is also additive under cut
