The application of the geometric method of local geoid model determination which requires the fitting of geometric surfaces to known geoid heights to enable geoid heights of new points to be interpolated involves the use of least squares technique for computation of the models' parameters. One of the most important problems in modern finance is to understand how best to model the occurrence of jumps in asset pricing models. With this issue in mind, the main topic of this thesis is the development of a set of asset pricing models, driven by Levy uncertainty, applicable across a wide range of asset classes. In particular, we model the term structure of interest rates in a Levy setting, by use of the so-called positive interest models of Flesaker and Hughston. Abstract:
Poor road conditions affect millions of drivers, and assessing the condition of paved surfaces is a critical step towards repairing them. This project explores the feasibility of using the Apple iPad Pro LiDAR sensor as a cost-effective tool for assessing the damage and condition of paved surfaces. Our research aims to provide accurate and precise measurements using readily available consumer devices and compare the results to state-of-the-art equipment. This investigation involved visual inspection, identification, and classification of pavement distresses, followed by a comparison of the iPa

Abstract:
A set of global and region-specific ground-motion models (GMMs) for subduction zone earthquakes is developed based on the database compiled by the Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center (PEER) Next Generation Attenuation - Subduction (NGA-SUB) project. The subset of the NGA-SUB database used to develop the GMMs includes 3914 recordings from 113 subduction interface earthquakes with magnitudes varying between 5 and 9.2 and 4850 recordings from 89 intraslab events with magnitudes varying between 5 and 7.8. Recordings in the back-arc region are excluded, except for the Cascadia region. Th

Pipeline fitness-for-service and maintenance prioritization both require knowledge of the line pipes mechanical properties and fracture resistance. This report presents such information for a broad range of steels, including vintage Grades A and B as well as early X-grades up through X52 produced from 1930 to 1970. Thirty-six data sets for steels over this range of grades were presented in terms of full-range curves for steels produced up through 1960, while results for another ~150 steels produced until 1970 were summarized in tabular format. This final report provides a comprehensive and in-depth review of the current status of in-line inspection technologies including, but not limited to, Magnetic (Axial MFL, Circumferential MFL), and Geometrical (Caliper) methods in terms of their capabilities, limitations and potentials in detection, discrimination and characterization of various forms of pipeline mechanical damage, such as dents, dents with corrosion, and dents with cracks, gouges and dents with gouges. Capabilities of current technologies presented herein are based on validation data supplied by PRCI members. This report revi

Abstract:
An update to the BCHydro ground-motion model for subduction earthquakes has been developed using the 2018 PEER NGA-SUB dataset. The selected subset includes over 70,000 recordings from 1880 earthquakes. The update modifies the BCHydro model to include regional terms for the VS30 scaling, large distance (linear R) scaling, and constant terms, which is consistent with the regionalization approach used in the NGA-W2 ground-motion models. A total of six regions were considered: Cascadia, Central America, Japan, New Zealand, South America, and Taiwan. Region- independent terms are used for the smal
