Geopolitical cosmology, which is engaged in creating a realistic picture of international relations, will help us to give an objective assessment of current international events. The geopolitical analysis of the Eurasian space, where there are always many different kinds of contradictions, threats and conflicts, is of particular interest in this r

Abstract:
This working paper conducts an in-depth analysis of the European Union's (EU) approach to nexus issues in conflict prevention, mediation, and resolution. In the realm of gender and conflict, it emphasises the EU's commitment to mainstreaming gender in its peacebuilding efforts in Guatemala. The EU aims to tackle gender-based violence and enhance women's political and economic participation. Despite its clear objectives, there is a level of ambiguity regarding the alignment of these actions with transformative gender principles, particularly regarding indigenous and rural communities in Latin A

The article states that with the development of new journalism, the author’s ability to characterize a phenomenon and identify a trend acquires special value. Representatives of Ukrainian new journalism, which is a relatively new genre, are already gradually implementing these tasks. They compose entire books from their reports, offering the reader a condensed version of versatile observations about a certain country, situation, or phenomenon. In contrast to ordinary reportage, fiction is a synthetic genre, in which it is not reported, but told. The authors of the article research Reporters wh

A new geopolitical reality and challenges in the EU’s close neighbourhood, especially the war in Ukraine, have drawn attention once again towards examining whether the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and its instruments work. This working paper re-assesses the effectiveness, coherence and sustainability of EU CFSP actions through case studies. In doing so, this paper tests and refines a set of assessment criteria – developed partially in ENGAGE Working Paper 10 on intelligence and security cooperation, and partially in these pages – to identify specific obstacles to, as well as possi

This briefing paper draws from research done as part of ENGAGE Work Package 8 ‘Engaging with the EU’s Neighbourhoods’, which analyses how the EU has engaged with the neighbouring countries in the context of the European Neighbourhood Policy (the ENP). Launched in 2003 to increase the prosperity, stability and security of countries in the EU’s neighbourhood and to support their political, economic and institutional reforms, we find that the ENP proved to be a rather technocratic, de-securitised policy, hindered by it being separate rather than an integral part of EU’s Common Foreign and Securit

This working paper examines the European Union's (EU) strategic partnerships with International Organisations (IOs) in dealing with different crises. Through the lens of three distinct case studies, it investigates the EU's collaboration with the United Nations in addressing the Mali crisis, its joint efforts with NATO in response to the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, and its partnership with the African Union in the context of climate change. Geographic maps have been of military and economic importance throughout the ages. Rulers have commissioned maps to control the financial, economic, political, and military aspects of their sovereign entities. Large scale projects like the Ordnance Survey in the UK in the late 18th century, and the Lewis and Clark Expedition a few decades later to map the American West, are early examples of trailblazing efforts to create accurate modern maps of high strategic importance.
