Abstract:
George Desnoyer first danced in London in 1721 and 1722, and returned to pursue a successful performing career there between 1731 and 1742. He may have been born around 1700 in Hanover, for he was the son of the dancing master ‘Denoyé’ employed by Georg Ludwig Elector of Hanover (later King George I of England) from at least 1694. 1 Musicians named ‘Desnoyers’ can be found in Paris records from the 1650s. 2 The elder Desnoyer may have been related to Antoine Desnoyers, who was a member of the ‘violons de la Chambre’ at the court of Louis XIV from at least the late 1670s until about 1694. 3 He may also have been the Desnoyers who danced in the 1689 and 1690 revivals at the Paris Opéra of Lully's Atys and Cadmus et Hermione respectively. 4 Whatever his lineage, George Desnoyer was already a skilled exponent of French belle dance style and technique when he first appeared in London, at the Drury Lane Theatre, early in 1721. Desnoyer's father died on 18 April 1721, and he was presumably appointed to succeed him for he left England during the summer of 1722 to become dancing master to George I's grandson Prince Frederick, who had remained in Hanover. His appointment at the electoral court formally ended early in 1730, and the following year Desnoyer returned to London. He was billed as ‘first dancer to the King of Poland’ when he appeared at Drury Lane in late 1731, and for the next few years he divided his time between London, Dresden and Warsaw. Desnoyer's London career lasted until 1742. Over the years, he performed solos, duets and group dances as well as appearing in a variety of afterpieces, and he enjoyed notable partnerships with several leading female dancers. Although virtually all the choreographies he performed are lost, there is much other evidence to shed light on Desnoyer's dancing style and technique. I have documented the lives and careers, as dancing masters, of George Desnoyer and his son Philip elsewhere. 5 In this article I will explore and analyse George Desnoyer's repertoire during his first two periods in London, 1721–1722 and 1731–1733. In a second article, I will look at his repertoire and his dancing partnerships between 1734 and his retirement from the London stage in 1742. 6

Abstract:
For many years, the Rare Books Department (Book Museum) of the Russian State Library has been conducting up-to-date work on the description of ex-libris, which contributes to the disclosure of the Department’s collections. The main goal of this research is to identify, record, study, publish, and thereby show the variety and richness of the ownership marks found on books. This article is devoted to the book marks of the German bibliophile Prince George III of Anhalt (1507—1553) from the collection of the Russian State Library. In the Russian-language research literature, Prince George’s book marks have not been considered before. The highly valued private library, later named after the owner — “Georgs-Bibliothek”, used to be part of the Land Library in Dessau (Germany). A small part of this famous book collection came after World War II to the V.I. Lenin State Library of the USSR and is now stored in the Book Museum. On the example of the small fragment of Prince George’s famous library, the article traces the gradual appearance and development of the unique ex-libris of this collection, reveals the literary and bibliophile interests of the owner, and establishes the circle of his communication. In the course of the study, about a hundred owner’s marks were recorded, thanks to which there were identified more than 120 publications from the personal collection of Prince George of Anhalt. The article presents the main types of its ex-libris (handwritten, gift, and super-ex-libris), which are reproduced and described in detail.

Abstract:
Since 2008, the economic fallout from the subprime mortgage crisis has led to the defeat of a number of incumbents in the world's major democracies. For instance, in the former EU-15, eight countries (including France) have ousted their incumbents in favor of new leaders. The United States is no exception, and the 2012 US presidential election will see Barack Obama running for a second term during difficult economic times. After hitting a high of 10% in October 2009, the nation's unemployment rate decreased to 8.2% in May 2012. Nonetheless, this is still 0.7 percentage point higher than what Ronald Reagan faced in 1984 or what confronted George H.W. Bush in 1992 as they ran for their second terms. Looking at measures of presidential popularity for the month of May since 1980, Barack Obama's approval rating is at 46% in the Gallup polls, which is the third-worst rating after George W. Bush (30% in 2008) and George H.W. Bush (39.4% in 1992). Given Barack Obama's approval rating and the current national unemployment level, must we conclude that Barack Obama is irremediably on the ropes against Mitt Romney in 2012?

Abstract:
“Chartalism” is generally conceived as a doctrine that states that money is a creation of the state. The father of chartalism, Georg Friedrich Knapp, even devoted the title of his magnum opus, The State Theory of Money, to highlighting this connection. Our purpose is to show that the chartalist theory, as developed by Knapp in his book, did not really argue that means of payment were necessarily a creation of the state. A close reading of his book reveals that means of payment could emerge outside the state and that even other pay-communities were able to create chartal means of payment. That is the main reason why Knapp’s theory of money was not radically incompatible with Carl Menger’s.

Abstract:
Applying similarity analysis to the RANS equations of motion for a pressure gradient turbulent boundary layer, Castillo and George [1] obtained the scalings for the mean deficit velocity and the Reynolds stresses. Following this analysis, Castillo and George studied favorable pressure gradient (FPG) turbulent boundary layers. They were able to obtain a single curve for FPG flows when scaling the mean deficit velocity profiles. In this study, FPG turbulent boundary layers are analyzed as well as relaminarized boundary layers subjected to an even stronger FPG. It is found that the mean deficit velocity profiles diminish when scaled using the Castillo and George [1] scaling, U∞, and the Zagarola and Smits [2] scaling, U∞δ*/δ. In addition, Reynolds stress data has been analyzed and it is found that the relaminarized boundary layer data decreases drastically in all components of the Reynolds stresses. Furthermore, it will be shown that the shape of the profile for the wall-normal and Reynolds shear stress components change drastically given the relaminarized state. Therefore, the mean velocity deficit profiles as well as Reynolds stresses are found to be necessary in order to understand not only FPG flows, but also relaminarized boundary layers.

Abstract:
One of the ways to eliminate population diseases and increase the body is resistance to adverse environmental factors is the systematic use of functional food products enriched with a complex of biologically active substances with a wide range of therapeutic effects. The creation of a new, unique functional dairy product was preceded by long-term comparative biochemical studies of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi and Scutellaria galericulata L. In the grass and roots, biologically active substances of a phenolic nature, such as baicalin, vogonin, scutellarin, etc., were found useful for medicinal purposes. The use of extracts from the of Scutellaria galericulata L. in the development of a functional product based on sour-milk fractions made it possible to obtain curd mass enriched with the biologically active substance of this plant. The functional product meets the organoleptic, physico-chemical, tasting requirements for new functional products and is recommended for introduction into the diet of different population groups by age and functional activity.

Full text
Abstract:
The compressor polytropic head and efficiency analysis are based on the assumption that the compression process follows the path of a constant polytropic exponent n. Both the ASME PTC10-97 and the ISO 5389 refer to the polytropic analysis by John M. Schultz. The procedure utilizes a head correction factor and two compressibility functions to obtain a solution of the integral Δhp = ∫vdp. Present computer technology renders possible a direct integration of the compression path where the variation in actual gas properties along the path is included. This method eliminates the averaging of gas properties which the Schultz procedure includes. This paper reports deviation in compressor performance using the Schultz procedure with different average gas properties. The implementation of a direct integration procedure, employing actual gas properties from the new GERG-2004 equation of state, is given. The GERG-2004 equation of state has proven to give accurate density values both in the vapour and liquid phases. Depending on how the polytropic compression analysis is implemented, the work has revealed up to 4% deviation in polytropic head and efficiency for some specific compressors. This adds an extra uncertainty in compressor performance verification. Even though the API 617 allows up to 4% deviation, some compressors have to meet a more stringent demand, for instance 2% at the Sno̸hvit LNG plant. Future challenges within oil and natural gas production are related to wet gas compressors. The present paper points out the advantages in using a direct integration method for wet gas performance predictions as this takes phase changes along the compression path into account.

Full text
Abstract:
Objective: To study the risk factors, management protocols and outcome of vulvar cancer cases over a period of 10 years in a tertiary care hospital. Methods: It is a retrospective cohort study of vulvar cancer from January 2004 to January 2014 at King George Medical University, Lucknow. Hospital records of 41 patients with histologically proven diagnosis of vulvar cancer were studied from Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Department of Radiotherapy. The presence of risk factors, stage of disease, treatment modalities used and disease outcome in terms survival were studied. The data collected was analyzed and compared with the published literature. Results: The mean age for diagnosis of vulvar cancer was 52 years and peak incidence was seen in age group of 50-70 years. Incidence was significantly more in multiparous (p = 0.001) and postmenopausal women (p = 0.007). An average of 4.1 cases were seen per year. 97.56% cases were squamous cell carcinomas including one case of verrucous carcinoma. Only one non-squamous case of Bowen’s disease was seen. 20 cases belonged to early stage (1 and 2) while 21cases had advanced disease (3 and 4). 48.78% cases were primarily treated with surgery, 26.83% with radiotherapy, 7.3% with chemotherapy and 17.07% with combined chemoradiation. 78% of surgically treated cases had mean survival of 5 years. Mean survival of 1 year was recorded in advanced disease cases. Limitation of the study was poor follow up after treatment. Conclusion: Incidence of vulvar cancer is significantly high in multiparous and postmenopausal women. Surgical treatment is the best option in early stage of disease (stage I and II) and gives high survival rates while advanced disease treated with chemoradiation has poor survival.

One of the specifications is the maximum hydro-carbon dew point (HCDP) at the pipeline operating pressure. Occasionally, gas plants encounter operational upsets that result in a higher HCDP. If the HCDP exceeds the ground temperature, condensation of heavier hydrocarbon can potentially occur along the lateral. Ideally, after an upset has been detected and the producer has been shut in, the lateral would be pigged to remove the condensed hydrocarbons. However, if the lateral is unpiggable, the only way to remove the liquids is to evaporate them into a flow of dryer gas. The present paper compares two potential courses of action which may be taken after a high HCDP is detected at a receipt point on an unpiggable line: (a) flowing dry gas from the producer after the source of upset is corrected, or (b) pulling dryer gas back from the operator’s mainline through the lateral to the producer. In order to determine the most appropriate course of action for a given upset, the state of the lateral during and after the upset must first be accurately quantified. In the present paper, the state was modelled based on the governing equations of fluid flow including heat transfer and condensation, the GERG-2008 equation of state, and empirical liquid-hold-up equations. The effect of flow parameters (e.g., gas composition, lateral elevation profile, ground temperature, etc.) on the upset severity is explored. Subsequently, models for forward flow and pull back are presented, and the criteria for selecting when either course of action is appropriate are discussed.

Abstract:
The Battelle two-curve method is widely used throughout the industry to determine the required material toughness to arrest ductile (or tearing) pipe fracture. The method relies on accurate determination of the propagation speed of the decompression wave into the pipeline once the pipe ruptures. GASDECOM is typically used for calculating this speed, and idealizes the decompression process as isentropic and one-dimensional. While GASDECOM was initially validated against quite a range of gas compositions and initial pressure and temperature, it was not developed for mixtures containing hydrogen. Two shock tube tests were conducted to experimentally determine the decompression wave speed in lean natural gas mixtures containing hydrogen. The first test had hydrogen concentration of 2.88% (mole) while the second had hydrogen concentration of 8.28% (mole). The experimentally determined decompression wave speeds from the two tests were found to be very close to each other despite the relatively vast difference in the hydrogen concentrations for the two tests. It was also shown that the predictions of the decompression wave speed using the GERG-2008 equation of state agreed very well with that obtained from the shock tube measurements. It was concluded that there is no effects of the hydrogen concentration (between 0–10% mole) on the decompression wave speed, particularly at the lower part (towards the choked pressure) of the decompression wave speed curve.

Abstract:
Old Russian texts provide an opportunity to study the early state of the Russian vocabulary. The vocabulary structure of the Old Russian texts included the words of the Proto-Slavic language, a large number of calques and artificially created words. The absence of written records of the Proto-Slavic language, in which its vocabulary would be recorded, deprives us of the primary source of the meanings of such words. The Proto-Slavic root *lěp- had an undivided meaning. Undivided meaning of the root *lěp- is a potential problem in the interpretation of the words with this root used in ancient Russian texts. Another problem in the lexical-semantic study of words in the Old Russian texts is that words being semantic calques received additional meanings under the influence of Greek. In this regard the paper shows the formation of the concept of beauty in words with the root *lěp- used in ancient Russian texts. The purpose of this article is to study the evolution of the concept of beauty in the words with the Proto-Slavic root *lěp-. The article provides a comparative analysis of lexical meanings of the words with the root *lěp- containing the concept of beauty (used in ancient Russian texts) with their Greek equivalents. Such words are contained in ancient Russian written records: “The Life of St. Andrew the Fool”, “The Chronicle” by John Malalas, “The Chronicle” by George Amartol, “History of the Jewish War” by Josephus Flavius, Christianopolis (Acts and Epistles of the Apostles), Uspensky Сollection of XII–XIII centuries, etc.
