Etablissant une relation inédite entre la peinture, la photographie, l'architecture et l'espace qui questionne et déplace les frontières entre les médias traditionnels, l'œuvre de Georges Rousse se place au cœur de nos recherches. C'est la mise en critique de l'espace, de la représentation spatiale et des processus de création et de réception que nous cherchons à questionner, induisant une approche transdisciplinaire. L'œuvre de l'artiste relève d'un usage de dispositifs paradoxaux, du projet et de sa représentation, il nous oriente vers une manière de penser et de produire l'espace – construit, architecturé, fictif. C'est parce que ce processus fait écho à la conception et à la matérialisation d'un espace que nous nous interrogeons sur le statut que son œuvre confère à l'objet-architecture. [Dé]construire l'œuvre de Georges Rousse s'avère une occasion d'enrichir la pensée architecturale qui ouvre à des problématiques relatives à la notion de projet, rapportée et distinguée entre une démarche architecturale et une démarche plastique. A l'interface entre l'architecture comme matière à créer et comme matière à penser ; le projet est étudié en termes de processus – création, réflexion, conception et réception. La spatialité de l'intervalle, la mise en scène des espaces, la photographie à trois dimensions et les références topologiques plurielles juxtaposées nous amènent à réactualiser le processus de projection propre à l'architecte par la mise en critique de son œuvre. La mise en résonance des espaces, construits et [dé]construits, nous permet de questionner l'espace mental de conception – camera obscura visuelle de l'architecte. By establishing an unprecedented relationship between painting, photography, architecture and space, Georges Rousse's work throws into question the boundaries within traditional media, and blurs them. This singular approach places his work at the heart of our researches. Our goal is to question space, spatial representation and the creative process in and of themselves, as well as perception, by inducing a transdisciplinary approach.The working process set up by the artist falls within paradoxical arrangements. Starting from the notion of project and its representation, he drives us towards a way of thinking and producing space (constructed space, architectured space, fictitious space). It is precisely because this working process echoes with the conception and materialization of space, that we intend to explore the status given by his body of work to the Architectural Object. [De]constructing George Rousse’s body of work represents an opportunity to enrich the architectural thought by opening new challenges that relate to the notion of project, in relation and compared to an architectural and plastic approach. We investigate the project as processes – creation, reflexion, conception and perception – at the interface between architecture taken as food for thought, and architecture taken as food for creation.The spatiality of the interval, the staging of spaces, the three-dimensional photography and the plural juxtaposed topological references, leads us to update the projection process inherent to the architect by putting into question his body of work. Aligning constructed and [de]constructed spaces allows us to query the mental space of conception – visual camera obscura of the architect. The conception process, as a “set in motion” of weighted thoughts, enables the architect to consider all potential possibilities before drawing up a project proposal, a spatial statement

[EN] ABSTRACT The development of this thesis supposes an opportunity of learning and a tool in the area of Industrial Design teaching. The experience of having been teaching for fourteen years in the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería del Diseño of the Universitat Politècnica de Valencia and particularly in the subject of Artistic Expression, belonging to the first course of the degree in Product Design, inspired me to investigate areas which may be able to promote creativity and foster the perception as a resource when designing. We value as the two main bases in the vocational development of the student of Design, the perception and the creativity, observing in the novice students a lack of these skills, which makes difficult an organised improvement in their formation and their acquisition of abilities. Therefore we consider imperative the education in both of these areas. We are giving value to Jules Goncourt's thought: "The longest apprenticeship of all the arts is learning how to see". We reckon the important role that perception plays: "Things are not seen as they are; they are seen as we are" (H. Ascasubi). We analyse the perception among the students of the first course of ETSID. Given that we know the society is overloaded with visual stimuli, we consider the Op Art and its current reference in Felice Varini and Georges Rousse's work, a proper mean to connect with the students, so that it can work as a resource to reflect and discover the perception, the shape, the space and the creativity; elements which are all interrelated in a very interesting way in the work of the artists object of study. We intend to deeply analyse the perception (sense and knowledge) and the perspective as its representation, appreciating the technique of the anamorphosis as a creative and intriguing rupture, which may provoke a new way of looking on the students of Design, providing them with new resources, different points of view, new interpretations of the object, needs. In this thesis, more than arguing the pedagogical component of art for the students of Design, singled out in the Op Art, we intend to show the positive link that exists between art, and product design, from basic aspects; the creativity, the formal and graphic resources, the subject-object connection relating to perception and in the formal aspect, the link between two and three dimensions.
[ES] RESUMEN La realización de esta tesis se presenta como una oportunidad de aprendizaje y herramienta en el ámbito de la enseñanza del diseño industrial, la experiencia docente de catorce años en la Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería de Diseño de la Universidad Politécnica de Valencia y en especial en la asignatura Expresión Artística de primer curso del Grado en Diseño de Producto, me ha impulsado a investigar áreas que puedan motivar la creatividad y potenciar la percepción como recurso de diseño. Hemos valorado como dos pilares fundamentales en el desarrollo vocacional del estudiante de diseño la percepción y la creatividad, observando en los alumnos nóveles carencias en estas áreas que dificultan un ordenado crecimiento en la formación y adquisición de capacidades, por lo que vemos prioritario educar en estas dos áreas. Poniendo en valor el pensamiento de Jules Gouncourt: "El más largo aprendizaje de todas las artes es aprender a ver." Nos planteamos la influencia de la percepción; "Las cosas no se ven como son, las vemos como somos" (H. Ascasubi). Analizamos la percepción del alumnado de primer curso de ETSID. Conociendo que la sociedad está sobrecargada de estímulos visuales nos parece el Op Art y su referente actual en la obra de Felice Varini y Georges Rousse un medio para conectar con el alumnado de manera que sea un recurso para la reflexión y el descubrimiento de la percepción, la forma, el espacio y la creatividad, elementos que se interrelacionan de muy interesante manera en la obra de los artistas objeto de estudio. Buscamos analizar en profundidad la percepción (sentido y conocimiento) y la perspectiva como su representación, valorando la técnica de la anamorfosis como ruptura creativa y sugerente, que puede provocar una nueva mirada en el alumno de diseño capacitándolo con nuevos recursos, distintos puntos de vista, nuevas lecturas del objeto, necesidades. En esta tesis más allá de argumentar el componente pedagógico del arte para el estudiante de diseño, singularizado en el Op Art, buscamos demostrar la positiva vinculación del arte con el diseño de producto desde aspectos básicos; la creatividad, los recursos formal y gráfico, la relación perceptual sujeto-objeto y en el aspecto formal la relación entre dos y tres dimensiones.
[CAT] RESUM La realització d'aquesta tesi es presenta com a una oportunitat d'aprenentatge i com a eina a l'àmbit de l'ensenyament del disseny industrial. L'experiència docent de catorze anys a l'Escola Tècnica Superior d'Enginyeria de Disseny de la Universitat Politècnica de València i, en especial, en l'assignatura d'Expressió Artística de primer curs del Grau en Disseny de Producte, m'ha impulsat a investigar àrees que poden motivar la creativitat i potenciar la percepció com a recurs per al disseny. Hem valorat dos fites fonamentals en el desenvolupament vocacional de l'estudiant de disseny: la percepció i la creativitat. Tanmateix, observem en els alumnes novells carències en aquestes àrees que dificulten un ordenat creixement en la formació i adquisició de capacitats. Veiem, doncs, prioritari educar en aquestes dos àrees, posant en valor el pensament de Jules Gouncourt: "El més llarg aprenentatge de totes les arts és aprendre a veure." Ens plantegem la influència de la percepció: "Les coses no es veuen com són, les veiem com som" (H. Ascasubi) i analitzem la percepció de l'alumnat de primer curs d'ETSID. Assumint que la societat està saturada d'estímuls visuals, ens sembla l'Op Art i el seu referent actual en l'obra de Felice Varini i Georges Rousse un mitjà per a connectar amb l'alumnat de manera que siga un recurs per a la reflexió i el descobriment de la percepció, la forma, l'espai i la creativitat, elements que s'interrelacionen de manera molt interessant en l'obra dels artistes que són objecte d'estudi. Cerquem analitzar en profunditat la percepció (sentit i coneixement) i la perspectiva com a la seua representació, valorant la tècnica de l'anamorfosi com a ruptura creativa i suggeridora, que pot provocar una nova mirada en l'alumne de disseny. D'aquesta manera el capacita amb nous recursos, distints punts de vista, noves lectures de l'objecte, necessitats. En aquesta tesi, més enllà d'argumentar el component pedagògic de l'art per a l'estudiant de disseny, singularitzat en l'Op Art, busquem demostrar la positiva vinculació de l'art amb el disseny de producte des d'aspectes bàsics: la creativitat, els recursos formal i gràfic, la relació perceptual subjecte-objecte i en l'aspecte formal, la relació entre dos i tres dimensions.

This research provides an example delay calculation for long-haul single unit and combination trucks on Interstate-75 (I-75) in Georgia. Truck profiles on Georgia interstates are used to calculate the value of freight by truck type and commodity moved. Determining the types of trucks and commodities moved within the state of Georgia allows the researcher to monetize the effect of recurring congestion by location in addition to the cost of lost time. A more accurate calculation of delay based on truck type and commodity moved will better inform the Georgia Department of Transportation about the performance of Georgia's major truck routes and its potential effect on the local economy. A review of past research on this topic found that the calculated cost of delay in previous studies varied widely based on truck and commodity type. The identification of the types of commodities moved can assist in better monetizing the value of truck freight. Using forecast data on future truck traffic volume increases in the corridor, the growing importance of putting a value on different types of truck freight delay costs are demonstrated.

Le rapport de Hegel à Rousseau est complexe parce qu'il s'effectue selon différentes modalités et qu'il est en partie occulté. Notre analyse nous conduit à distinguer trois niveaux de lecture : - une première lecture permet de faire une archéologie du problème pratique (les travaux de jeunesse). - une seconde lecture permet, par le dialogue critique avec le droit naturel qu'elle engage, d'élaborer le projet d'une philosophie de l'esprit (les écrits de Iéna). - enfin une troisième lecture concerne l'architecture de la philosophie du droit qui reprend la structure générale des traités jusnaturalistes, articulant droit naturel et science de 1' Etat. . Le projet de Hegel ne consiste pas, selon notre hypothèse, à ruiner la tradition jusnaturaliste, mais à dépasser son abstraction caractéristique pour fonder une véritable science du droit naturel, préalable indispensable à la science de l'Etat. Les Principes de la philosophie du droit apparaissent alors comme la reformulation du Contrat social de Rousseau.

Il presente lavoro si propone di analizzare approfonditamente il processo traduttivo nell’opera del cantautore italiano Fabrizio De André, in quanto virtuoso esempio di traduzione etica e culturale. In modo particolare, approfondiremo in questo excursus il lascito della poetica di Georges Brassens e Leonard Cohen nella visione deandreiana, attraverso un’analisi comparativa dei brani originali in lingua francese e inglese e dei brani tradotti in lingua italiana, nell’alveo di una tematica che costituisce a pieno diritto il vero e proprio fil rouge nell’opera dei tre autori: la declinazione della figura femminile come esempio di dignità e resilienza, anche e soprattutto in contesti sociali di emarginazione. Prenderemo, inoltre, in esame il caso specifico della traduzione della canzone d'autore, che costituisce un esempio di grande rilevanza nell'ambito traduttivo, in quanto chi è chiamato a tradurre deve possedere conoscenze ritmico-musicali di un certo spessore, oltre a competenze linguistiche e traduttive.

La démarche autobiographique apparaît comme filière d'exploration et de construction personnelle. Sous l'Antiquité Chrétienne, les Confessions de Saint Augustin offrent l'exemple d'un moi qui se place tout entier devant Dieu pour comprendre sa vie. L'écriture renvoie à un ordre de transcendance. A l'Age des Lumières, la question fondamentale n'est plus celle de Dieu, mais celle de l'homme. Jean-Jacques Rousseau fait apparaître l'acte autobiographique comme révélation d'une nature individuelle. Il montre dans ses Confessions comment se réapproprier sa vie. Au XIXe siècle, George Sand dans Histoire de ma vie, Marie d'Agoult dans Mémoires, souvenirs et journaux, cherchent à faire évoluer les moeurs et à réformer l'éducation des filles. Au XXe siècle, les formes littéraires de vécu personnel laissent la place aux histoires de vie. La démarche autobiographique ne s'impose plus comme expression formative mais se constitue en instrument scientifique de formation
The autobiographical approach appears as a path to exploration and personal construction. During the Christian Antiquity, the "Confessions" by Saint Augustain offer the example of a self totally turned towards God in order to understand life. Writing recalls transcendence. In the Age of Enlightenment, the fundamental interrogation is not about God but about Man. Jean-Jacques Rousseau makes the autobiographical narrative appears as the revelation of a distinctive person. He explains in his "Confessions" how to take over one's life. In the 19th century, George Sand in "The story of my life" and Marie d'Agoult in her "Memoirs, memories and diaries" try to change people's mores and the education of girls. In the 20th century, the various literary forms taken on by personal experience are replaced by stories of lives. The autobiographical approach is not formative experience any more becomes a scientific means of training

La thèse s’intéresse à la réception de l’œuvre de Marcel Proust par la Nouvelle Critique Française. Après avoir défini ce mouvement critique, on propose d’analyser études de Roland Barthes, Gérard Genette, George Poulet, Jean-Pierre Richard, Jean Rousset et Serge Doubrovsky du point de vue de leurs présupposés et de leurs enjeux en distinguant l’étude de l’histoire de la réception et la poétique du commentaire. Dans la première partie, on montre par quel moyen l’objet de la lecture présente aussi comme la source de la méthode des critiques en évoquant la lecture des œuvres de Proust, puis leur utilisation pour légitimer les protocoles herméneutiques employés, le rejet du recours à la biographie et la mise en cause de l’histoire littéraire. Dans la seconde partie, on s’intéresse aux procédures métatextuelles mise en œuvre dans les travaux critiques cités, que l’on répartit entre d’une part des opérations de fragmentation et d’autre part des opérations de réunification.

La modélisation et la simulation numérique des interfaces sont au coeur de nombreuses applications en mécanique des fluides et des solides, telles que la biologie cellulaire (déformation des globules rouges dans le sang), l'ingénierie pétrolière et la sismique (modélisation de réservoirs, présence de failles, propagation des ondes), l'aérospatiale (problème de rupture, de chocs) ou encore le génie civil. Cette thèse porte sur l'approximation des problèmes d'interface et d'interphase en mécanique des fluides par la méthode NXFEM, qui permet de prendre en compte de façon précise une discontinuité non alignée avec le maillage. Nous nous sommes d'abord intéressés au développement de la méthode NXFEM pour des éléments finis non-conformes pour prendre en compte une interface séparant deux milieux. Nous avons proposé deux approches pour les équations de Darcy et de Stokes. La première consiste à modifier les fonctions de base de Crouzeix-Raviart sur les cellules coupées et la deuxième consiste à rajouter des termes de stabilisation sur les arêtes coupées. Les résultats théoriques obtenus ont été ensuite validés numériquement. Par la suite, nous avons étudié la modélisation asymptotique et l'approximation numérique des problèmes d'interphase, faisant apparaître une couche mince. Nous avons considéré d'abord les équations de Darcy en présence d'une faille et, en passant à la limite dans la formulation faible, nous avons obtenu un modèle asymptotique où la faille est décrite par une interface, avec des conditions de transmission adéquates. Pour ce problème limite, nous avons développé une méthode numérique basée sur NXFEM avec éléments finis conformes, consistante et stable. Des tests numériques, incluant une comparaison avec la littérature, ont été réalisés. La modélisation asymptotique a été étendue aux équations de Stokes, pour lesquelles nous avons justifié le modèle limite obtenu. Enfin, nous nous sommes intéressés à la modélisation de la membrane d'un globule rouge par un fluide non-newtonien viscoélastique de Giesekus, afin d'appréhender la rhéologie du sang. Pour un problème d'interphase composé de deux fluides newtoniens (l'extérieur et l'intérieur du globule) et d'un liquide de Giesekus (la membrane du globule), nous avons dérivé formellement le problème limite, dans lequel les équations dans la membrane sont remplacées par des conditions de transmission sur une interface
Numerical modelling and simulation of interfaces in fluid and solid mechanics are at the heart of many applications, such as cell biology (deformation of red blood cells), petroleum engineering and seismic (reservoir modelling, presence of faults, wave propagation), aerospace and civil engineering etc. This thesis focuses on the approximation of interface and interphase problems in fluid mechanics by means of the NXFEM method, which takes into account discontinuities on non-aligned meshes.We have first focused on the development of NXFEM for nonconforming finite elements in order to take into account the interface between two media. Two approaches have been proposed, for Darcy and Stokes equations. The first approach consists in modifying the basis functions of Crouzeix-Raviart on the cut cells and the second approach consists in adding some stabilization terms on each part of a cut edge. We have studied them from a theoretical and a numerical point of view. Then we have studied the asymptotic modelling and numerical approximation of interphase problems, involving a thin layer between two media. We have first considered the Darcy equations in the presence of a highly permeable fracture. By passing to the limit in the weak formulation, we have obtained an asymptotic model where the 2D fracture is described by an interface with adequate transmission conditions. A numerical method based on NXFEM with conforming finite elements has been developed for this limit problem, and its consistency and uniform stability have been proved. Numerical tests including a comparison with the literature have been presented. The asymptotic modelling has been finally extended to Stokes equations, for which we have justified the limit problem. Finally, we have considered the mechanical behaviour of red blood cells in order to better understand blood rheology. The last part of the thesis is devoted to the modelling of the membrane of a red blood cell by a non-Newtonian viscoelastic liquid, described by the Giesekus model. For an interphase problem composed of two Newtonian fluids (the exterior and the interior of the red blood cell) and a Giesekus liquid (the membrane), we formally derived the limit problem where the equations in the membrane are replaced by transmission conditions on an interface

In this thesis, I will study two manifestations of the legacy of Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s educational and political theories between 1832 and 1833: George Sand’s Indiana (1832) and Honoré de Balzac’s Eugénie Grandet (1833). I will argue that both novels treat the difficulties that uneducated or domestically educated young women face when they first encounter the artificial relationships of society, and that both authors attribute their protagonists’ situation to the lack of connection between the ideology of their upbringing and that of society. Furthermore, I will view these texts within the context of Romanticism, which buoyed the influence of Rousseauvian thought in the early nineteenth century by declaring nature preferable to society, a critical tenet of Rousseau’s theories. Social and political changes, however, led to Romanticism’s decline as the nineteenth century progressed, and this waning influence, coupled with the rise of Realism, can be observed in Indiana and Eugénie Grandet. The first chapter of this work will discuss the ideas that Rousseau presents in Emile, ou de l’éducation (1762) and the Discours sur l’origine et les fondements de l’inégalité parmi les hommes (1754). Although women are painted as independent in the original state of Nature, Rousseau argues in Emile that they should be domesticated in society, and he outlines the male and female educations that he believes will best prepare men and women for their assigned gender roles in society. The two chapters that follow treat the interpretations of Rousseau’s theories that Sand and Balzac put forward in Indiana and Eugénie Grandet. Sand refutes the nineteenth-century discourse concerning women’s innate “irrationality,” attributing Indiana’s difficulties with love and social norms to the distance between her “natural” education on Ile Bourbon and the artificiality of French relationships, eventually rejecting the possibility that reformed education can purge society of its corruption. Balzac, meanwhile, traces Eugénie’s transition from naïve young woman to true adulthood, when she is versed in the relations of “intérêt” that govern those around her. Eugénie, raised to base her relationships on true affection, is eventually isolated by her education, but Balzac does not envision her possible escape from society.

This particular historical-intertextual study that delves into the life and work of the empress Theodora, wife of Justinian I, have as its fundamental source the testimony of the historian Procopius of Caesarea, contemporary of this “Augusta”. Procopius’ main information is contained in the Anekdota or Secret History, a work generally acknowledged by historians and scholars as one of slander. Nevertheless, it is believed to be the most important source of information of Theodora’s controversial and eventful life. The purpose of this study is to examine The Treatment of Theodora, empress of Byzantium. We have selected the works of five modern writers, namely Theodora by the French historian-byzantinist C. Diehl, Theodora Augusta by novelist K. Theocharous, Theodora by the Italian historian P. Cezaretti, Theodora by French novelist Guy Rachet and Flaming Purple by the historical writer G. Roussos. Our research has examined whether these above-mentioned biographers of Theodora have brought to light new and important explanations. These, compared to older or more recent historical documentation, have made it possible to collect as much ‘data’ as possible on Theodora and, by comparing this ‘data’, convey the best appreciation possible about the ‘disputed’ and ‘multifarious’ personality of this empress.

This dissertation explores the numerous literary representations of the femme de lettres during the first half of the nineteenth century in order to illustrate the complexities of women’s entrance into the male-dominated domain of literature and also to suggest the impact these fictional characters might have had on the reception of actual women writers as well as their omission from the century’s literary canon. The works that will be included in this analysis include: Mme de Staël’s Corinne, ou l’Italie, Stendhal’s Le Rouge et le noir, Honoré de Balzac’s Béatrix, La Muse du département and Illusions perdues, Delphine de Girardin’s La Canne de M. de Balzac, Napoline and La joie fait peur and George Sand’s Histoire de ma vie, Lettres d’un voyageur and Un Hiver à Majorque. In compiling such diverse works of literature, it becomes clear that both male and female authors from the early nineteenth century were unable to envision a publicly embraced female genius. Although almost all of the fictional femmes de lettres in this study faced a destiny of professional silence, the reasons given for their failures are split between the male and female authors. For the male authors, the woman as a successful intellectual, artist or author was ultimately impossible because of her inability to combine her female body and psyche with the “masculine” pursuit of knowledge. Conversely, the female authors wrote characters whose inability to fully embrace a public literary or artistic career stemmed from society’s unwillingness to tolerate her exceptionality rather than from an inherent disconnect between genius and the female sex.
