Water can influence the strength of the rock material and promote the washing of discontinuities’ filling. Advantage of Bayesian approach to geotechnical designing The paper addresses the possibility of the Bayesian approach's application to geotechnical engineering. First the principal information on the Bayesian analysis has been presented and its applications to estimate the soil parameters based on the CPT/DMT tests at SGGW Campus in Warsaw afterwards. The CPT/DMT tests had been carried out in order to recognize the geotechnical conditions in the foundations of design campus buildings. The data from two layers of glacial boulder clays have been analysed. The results demonstrate that the Bayesia

The lecture attempts to highlight the insights late Victor De Mello provided on some key areas. Considering the increasing role of the geophysical methods in the geotechnical site characterization, the writer focuses on the use of in-hole geophysical methods when assessing, both in field and in laboratory, the parameters depicting the soil state and its stiffness at small strain. With this aim the writer draws the attention to seismic transversal (S) and longitudinal (P) body waves generated both in field, during in-hole tests, and in laboratory using piezocristals. This study focuses on the geotechnical evaluation of the foundation conditions of the Agrippa Monument at the Acropolis of Athens, aiming to propose interventions to improve stability and reduce associated risks. The assessment reveals highly uneven foundation conditions beneath the monument. A thorough collection of bibliographic references and geotechnical surveys was conducted, classifying geomaterials into engineering-geological units and evaluating critical parameters for geotechnical design. Geotechnical models were developed and 3D finite element analyses were performed. The qualitative

This study investigated the statistical significance of compactive efforts, steel slag and cement on the geotechnical features of the laterite soil. Steel slag and cement were incorporated into the soil. Some geotechnical tests were performed on slag-cement-soil samples. Findings showed that the liquid limit (LL) and plasticity index (PI) decreased with increasing slag content, while cement addition increased LL and PI. As compactive efforts increased, MDD and CBR increased with a corresponding decrease in OMC. A more significant influence of the compactive effort and steel slag on the geotech

Abstract. Current in situ methods used to geotechnically characterize the ground are predominantly based on invasive mechanical techniques (e.g. CPT, SPT, DMT). These techniques are localized to the tested area thus making it quite time consuming and costly to extensively cover large areas. Hence, a study has been initiated to investigate the use of the non-invasive Multichannel Analysis of Surface Waves (MASW) and Multichannel Simulation with One Receiver (MSOR) techniques to provide both an evaluation of compacted ground and a general geotechnical site characterization. The MASW technique re
