The approach will be to outline general methods, concentrating on the major pathogens, and then to examine specific techniques appropriate to different sites of infection, with cross-reference to other chapters. To get the most useful results from these samples it is important to know the site (anatomical) and nature (primacy/secondary, acute/chronic) of the infection. Abstract Tripping operations are the source of possible serious drilling incidents caused by swab and surge pressures exceeding the geo-pressure margins. Yet, it is difficult to monitor the actual downhole pressure during tripping because of telemetry limitations but also because there are no available methods to measure downhole pressure below the bit. Hydraulic models are therefore necessary to estimate the downhole pressure along the whole open hole section, also below the bit. It is therefore important to understand the factors influencing downhole pressure estimations when the drill-strin

Abstract It is well known that drilling fluid is a key parameter for optimizing drilling operations, cleaning the hole, and managing the rig hydraulics and margins of surge and swab pressures. Although the experimental works present valid and reliable results, they are expensive and time consuming. On the other hand, continuous and regular determination of the rheological mud properties can perform its essential functions during well construction. More uncertainties in planning the drilling fluid properties meant that more challenges may be exposed during drilling operations. This study presen

Abstract Geothermal formations are hot, often hard, highly fractured and under-pressured. They often contain corrosive fluids and some formation fluids that have very high solids content. These harsh environments mean that drilling is usually difficult. Challenges include degradation of drilling fluids with associated variances in fluids properties, difficulty in managing mud systems, slow rate of penetration, short bit life and lost circulation. The potential for fines migration and induced formation damage in geothermal wells is significantly high due to weakening of attaching electrostatic

Abstract:
Mycoplasma iowae (Mi) is a pathogenic avian mycoplasma which causes mortality in turkey embryos and as such has clinical and economic significance for the turkey breeder industry. Control of Mi infection is severely hampered by lack of adequate diagnostic tests, together with resistance to most antibiotics and resilience to environment. A markedly high degree of intra-species antigenic variation also contributes to difficulties in detection and control of infection. In this project we have designed an innovative gene-based diagnostic test based on specific amplification of the 16S rRNA gene of
