Territorial shifts after World War II entailed critical demographic changes: Germans were expelled from Elbing; Poles from the eastern territories were supposed to take their place in Elbląg. Personal and national narratives had to be created from scratch. As that relationship is emotional in character it cannot be limited to simple sex tourism. The German portal connects women whose feeling were abused by local man. Of all fields of historical enquiry, Germany’s Third Reich is perhaps the richest in sources and historiography. Therefore, it is logical to assume that this is where we see history done at its best. Abstract:
AbstractLogistics is a global challenge needing cooperation across disciplinary as well as cultural diversity. International, interdisciplinary education has the potential to provide meaningful experiences and cultural exchange for the individuals involved, including students, faculty, and university professionals and can have a positive impact on their lives and professionalism. We introduce the doctoral training program International Graduate School for Dynamics in Logistics (IGS) at the University of Bremen and explores a German-American educational partnership on the level of doctoral training. Utilizing scholarly personal narratives, the perceptions of two university professionals were garnered. From the narratives, they discussed the advantages and difficulties associated with cultural exchanges, the exposure to many cultures, and engaging with differing educational systems converging within one program. This qualitative study provides and glimpses into the complexity and intentional nuances that should be addressed when developing and operationalizing international, interdisciplinary education.

Abstract:
In the past years telecollaboration has gained importance in higher education contexts. For students telecollaborative projects are a chance to take part in cultural exchange and expand the language competences on a minimum cost. Especially since the begin of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 education cannot be viewed without digital sources and the use of technological tools. Therefore, teachers need to be prepared for a globalized world and experience their own and other cultures through technology, whilst extending their intercultural communicative competence. This chapter (paper) examines the forms of personal interlocution of teachers in training based on a case study taken from the Digital and International Virtual Academic Cooperation (DIVA) program from 2021. The participating students from the Kibbutzim College of Education, Technology and the Arts in Tel Aviv (Israel) and the University of Education Ludwigsburg (Germany) joined the project over the course of four weeks. During their online group work via Zoom the students were video recorded. Further data was collected through students' final statements and reflections. However, only the video data is taken into consideration and transcribed for the purpose of this chapter. Taking a phenomenological approach of the collected data, one phenomenon will be discussed in detail. The personal stories of the observed group will be displayed in multimodal descriptions and presented on the base of a cultural discourse analysis (Carbaugh, 2007). The conclusion will then discuss how the individuals express their own narratives and worldview.

Abstract:
This chapter introduces the ghosts of war that revolved around the choices people made under the German occupation and its political, social, legal, and personal repercussions. It highlights the book's discussion on guilt and complicity concerning the truth and justice in the aftermath of the Nazi occupation and the rebuilding of Soviet state authority, personal lives, and the creation of war narratives. The chapter then explores the soviet politics of retribution following years of Nazi occupation. It explains the inevitable questions about people's wartime behavior. Some people who felt the injustice of the Soviet power resorted to strategies to mobilize the state on their behalf. The chapter also covers the archival sources of Ghost of War from Belarus, Russia, Germany, Israel, Poland, Ukraine, and the United States.

Abstract:
The collapse of the Soviet Union and the Chechen wars were for German Sadulaev, a writer of Chechen origin, the starting point for a broad reflection on identity and nationality in the post-Soviet era. This paper aims to scrutinise how issues related to identity are addressed in two works by the author, the collection of short stories Ja – čečenec! [I Am a Chechen, 2006] and the novel Šalinskij rejd [The Raid on Shali, 2010]. Specific attention is paid to the role that narratives play in the considered works. In this respect, the paper first considers ethnicity/nationality as a narrative construct. Then, it deals with fragmentation of identity self-narrative as the consequence of the collapse of the Soviet Union. Finally, it considers the act of narrating as an attempt to hold together collective and personal identities.

The Introduction provides a general overview of Britain’s decision to hire thousands of German troops in the war against the American rebels. By the early 1780s, they made up more than one third of the of the British regular army’s strength in North America. Members of the German corps produced a voluminous body of official and private records that offers provides fascinating insight into their experiences between 1776, when the first contingents set foot on American soil, and 1783, when the British army evacuated the newly founded United States. An examination of German-authored records, including in particular diaries and letters, draws the eye from a higher view of the war to more personal, subjective narratives of this period in American history.

Abstract:
This chapter explores witnesses’ notions of culpability and justice in the victim-perpetrator encounter. Within the Yiddish-Lithuanian corpus, the act of identifying guilty parties figures prominently. These locally focused conversations make less room for German perpetrators. Neighbors are both the most human and the most deplorable Holocaust perpetrators. By contrast, the personal-allegorical genre in the American context does not promise to produce the names of guilty parties. Witnesses blame a crisis of values, hate, or antisemitism rather than individual people. Geographic distance makes it less relevant to list the names of guilty neighbors. Contemporary political and economic advantages, being an American citizen, make it less moral to seek retribution. For those participating in the Israeli ecology, depicting the perpetrator often leads to a critique of the Jewish response to victimization. Narratives dwell upon the strategy of the perpetrator—on identifying the system behind his aggression and evaluating it. Some narrators in this ecology emphasize how Holocaust perpetration is common knowledge in Israeli life: The facts of anti-Jewish persecution are already well known, tamed within the space of the national archive, and thus require less forensic energy.

Abstract:
This chapter devotes specific consideration to the complex relationship between contemporary Jewish identity and klezmer music in the city—as seen in two case studies that both directly address Berlin Jewish history through music. The first of these is a project that unearths the rich recorded legacy of two prewar Berlin Jewish record labels (Semer and Lukraphon) and re-presents their music for a modern concert audience. Despite the pre-Holocaust provenance of this music, a post-Holocaust framing is unavoidable, making these materials both a way of hearing the past and also a commentary on the present (including changing German-Jewish relations). In the process, Semer Ensemble raises important questions about the relationship of bounded historical materials to contemporary performance practice. The chapter also critiques the project, arguing that while it powerfully illustrates the wealth of talent and creativity in Berlin’s Jewish music scene, it also bends certain historical narratives to better suit its own artistic aims. Secondly, the chapter discusses the life story and work of singer Tania Alon, one of the few Berlin-born Jews on today’s klezmer and Yiddish scene. Tania’s deeply felt testimony as the granddaughter of Holocaust victims stands as a powerful contrast to the easy fluidity of the contemporary milieu and reminds us of the very personal resonances that this music also contains. In particular, Tania’s singing at Stolpersteine ceremonies is explored, through her own words, as a way of sounding the silenced voices of her family and simultaneously an aural part of the urban fabric.
